In a letter released by his lawyer, the former official, David Wildstein, a high school friend of Mr. Christie's who was appointed with the governor's blessing at the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which controls the bridge, described the order to close the lanes as "the Christie administration's order" and said "evidence exists as well tying Mr. Christie to having knowledge of the lane closures, during the period when the lanes were closed, contrary to what the governor stated publicly in a two-hour press conference" three weeks ago.
Immediately after reviewing the story of the George Washington Bridge being closed down for political punishment reasons by the Christie administration, I told Mrs. Reverend that the best thing the big governor could do was resign from his job as governor of New Jersey for....health reasons. Stage a fake heart "event", complete with 9-11 calls and the whole nine yards, or something similar.
Richard Nixon had to announce his resignation and fly out of D.C. a disgraced man. Something similar will undoubtedly happen to the New Jersey GOP governor, so he might as well make his exit as calculated as he has done with his numerous corruption schemes.
If you have an interest in the Christie BridgeGate scandal or any of the other various and sundry stories implicating the Christie administration in schemes of corruption, then review the numerous articles at the Star Ledger. I recommend bookmarking their site. There is just too much material to do justice to all of it in one posting.
Instead, let's critique what defenders of Christie had to say about the big fellow as recently as January 12. Here is Fox News personality Brit Hume....
"Well, I would have to say that in this sort of feminized atmosphere in which we exist today, guys who are masculine and muscular like that in their private conduct, kind of old fashion tough guys, run some risk.....
This guy is very much an old fashioned masculine, muscular guy, and there are political risks associated with that. Maybe it shouldn't be, but that's how it is."
When large males are criticized for vein-bulging bouts of screaming at New Jersey female teachers....according to Hume....it's because we live in a "feminized atmosphere." Limbaugh refers to this myth as the continual attack of men by the "Femi-Nazis." Elsewhere at the media dungeons of Fox, this criticism of out-of-control male behavior is snarkily referred to as the "wussification" of American men.
Obviously, these Christie apologists are attempting to counter demonstrable evidence of the Governor's addiction to bullying. And yet, Christie's team made a habit of uploading videos of Christie's bully-boy-bouts to You Tube as positive evidence of the former prosecutor's strong "leadership." In Christie World, all inhabitants love bullies. Christie and his people wanted the entire nation to see that the big man wore his bully-boyness as a badge of honor.
What's comical in what Hume said earlier in January is the part about Christie being an "old fashioned muscular and masculine....tough guy." A male who is capable, and willing, to outshout female teachers half his size and call other people who dare to ask him questions..."idiots", is not exhibiting authentic masculine traits. Instead, it is exhibiting proof that he is but a bully. Setting aside those who confuse Soprano-style fiction with reality, no one in real life likes a bully. No one.
But "masculine and muscular?" How is it possible for anyone to observe Chris Christie and come away describing him as "muscular." 'Throwing his weight around'....maybe....but please, "muscular?" My god, it's embarrassing.
What is revealed in all of this stuff is the love affair that conservatives have with male authoritarianism. You see, in FoxLand, if males can't continue to behave like bulls in china shops, ...if men are prevented from being, you know, real men....it's all the fault of women, it's all because females have been neutering men for the last few decades. Interestingly, Hume and the people at Fox and Morning Joe, deny that there is any "war on women" going on out there.
Sadly, the reality is that Chris Christie is neither "masculine" nor "muscular".....he is only power hungry. Neither is Christie a "tough guy". Authentic tough guys don't behave in public like Christie has behaved. Christie simply has a hair trigger temper....a trait commonly found in whiners who are told they can't do what they want to do, and males who will not tolerate any criticism.
The evidence that has been coming out of New Jersey, however, does all point to one particular Christie administration quality. That quality is corruption. While ignorant Democrats swooned over the big man, and Republicans salivated over their sugar plum dreams of a Christie presidency......much of what the Governor and his henchmen were doing was spreading the thuggish rot of corruption from one New Jersey town to another.
If Chris Christie cares about the people of New Jersey like he says he does...then he should resign.
