Let's say for sake of discussion that The Reverend was first suspected, then accused, of robbing ATM machines with the assistance of local cellphone companies.
The cellphone companies would send specific microwave packets of data to my cellphone while I was in the proximity of ATM machines thus disabling the machines security.
In my purely fictitious account I would divide the cash with said cellphone company providing the incentive necessary to pull off something of this magnitude.
And then imagine, after the criminal scam was exposed, a judge not only cleared me of any wrongdoing, but asserted that I had every right to do what I had done. Crazy, I know. Could never happen....you're right.
But what if that same judge then began encouraging local legislators to pass new legislation as quickly as possible to immunize any cellphone companies who had participated in the plan or who wanted to participate in similar future plans?
What would we conclude about a judge who did something like this?
Here come da' real judge, saying this on Sunday....
"When Congress returns in September the Intelligence committees and leaders in both parties will need to complete work on the comprehensive reforms requested by Director McConnell, including the important issue of providing meaningful liability protection to those who are alleged to have assisted our Nation following the attacks of September 11, 2001," he said. Now who's crazy?
Not only did the spineless children in the Congress pass legislation this past weekend(in the middle of the night) legalizing any direct violations of the 4th amendment by the executive branch but in so doing they set themselves up for more lawless and authoritarian abuse as outlined in Bush's comments above.
"Alleged" to have done something illegal??? Don't know if it is true or not??? Not a problem. The Decider will step on the throat(with his 28% approval shoes) of "scared like bunnies" Congress and INSIST('by gawd, I'm the Decider') they give "liability protection" (read: insurance to break the law if you are helping the executive branch break the law) to any "alleged" co-conspiracy by communications corporations.
There's no admission that anything, ever, was done illegally. All is simply "alleged". And what of those pesky laws? Hell, just write some new ones.
