The Republican Party priorities....
MCCONNELL: We need to be honest with the public. This election is about them, not us. And we need to treat this election as the first step in retaking the government. We need to say to everyone on Election Day, “Those of you who helped make this a good day, you need to go out and help us finish the job.”
NATIONAL JOURNAL: What’s the job
MCCONNELL: The single most important thing we want to achieve is for President Obama to be a one-term president.
Republican Rep. Mike Pence of Indiana yesterday....
If liberals in the Senate would rather play political games and shut down the government, instead of making a small down payment on fiscal discipline and reform, I say, shut it down.
With another good jobs report coming out yesterday, Republicans must now work overtime to accomplish their top priority.....which is to stop Barack Obama from gaining a second term as president.
I don't think a person has to don a tinfoil hat to understand how that top GOP priority is playing out. Republicans are pro-actively working to damage America's economy leading up to next year's general election.
"Shut 'er down", the punk-ass, Mike Pence cockily announces. Rather than accept the $32 billion in budget cuts Democrats have agreed to,......the exact amount Republicans initially sought to cut.....the punk-ass from Indiana would rather shut the place down, just as he told the....dozens....of Tea Partiers who....rallied....outside Capitol Hill the other day.
Why? Ask Mitch...."The single most important thing we want to achieve is for President Obama to be a one-term president."
Self-radicalized Republicans, fearful of rabid Tea Partiers primarying them out of their cushy jobs next spring, will do ANYTHING to bring about the demise of our first black president. Even if it means crushing the "green shoots" of our nation's economic recovery.
Sure, anarchists like Jim DeMint (R-SC), Michelle Bachmann (WTF-MN) and ex-radio talker and perrennial sanctimonious fumduck Mike Pence will tell the dozens who gather to listen to them that shutting down the government is all about the future of "the children."
But even Mikey knows better.
First things first. The federal government should not be cutting ANY spending right now. There is a consensus among economists that cutting government spending right now will add to the unemployment rolls. Adding more to the unemployment rolls will slow demand for goods and services. Slower demand will slow, or reverse, the growth of our economic recovery.
And that's the point. If Barack Obama goes into next spring with a growing economy.....he will be unbeatable in his re-election run. Republicans know that and are trying to hurt the economic recovery in order to hurt Obama's chances. Some might call that treason.
Keep in mind what else Republicans are doing right now in certain key states. The unvarnished attack on Americans who work for a living that's going on in Michigan, Ohio, Wisconsin, Florida, and New Jersey is all part and parcel of Mitch McConnell's top priority.
Crush state employee unions.....tax the poor and the elderly....hand out buckets of tax incentives to already-prosperous corporations....and wait for the economic bad news reports to roll in.
That's the plan as Republicans work towards their singular goal of regaining the White House next year. And we ain't seen nothin' yet. The argument in Congress today is about the 2011 budget which ends this October. What's coming up are the fights over the 2012 budget and the sure-to-be-a-bloodbath fight over raising the federal borrwing limit.
Here again, the GOP plan is to fatally injure President Obama's chances for re-election by wreaking havoc.....damaging the nation's economic foundation. Treasury chief Geithner has warned that the GOP plan to quit funding the federal government will cause.... "catastrophic damage to the economy, potentially more harmful that the effects of the financial crisis of 2008 and 2009."
To Mitch McConnell, Jim DeMint, Michelle Bachmann and Shut 'er Down Mike Pence.....that sounds like a winning formula.
