Here's some exceptionally evil Rovian real-time politics...
Now look at this comment from McCain honcho Steve Schmidt to Katie Couric last night: "Members of this campaign went to off-the-record lunches with reporters today, and they were asked if she would do paternity tests to prove paternity for her last child. Smear after smear after smear, and it's disgraceful and it's wrong. And the American people are going to reject it overwhelmingly when they see her." Link
No one, repeat no one, mentioned or asked about any "paternity test". Schmidt, McCain's campaign man, introduced "paternity test" questions for the first time, to Katie Couric, and said reporters were asking them. Simply made it up and inserted it into the mainstream. Purely, for replication purposes. Then Schmidt could complain that his client was being oh-so-offended by all the smears,...smears he had made up and introduced in the first place.
Now that is some extra-special cynical sh*t.
McCain and his campaign are staging a multiple car pileup to distract the American voters. Something to behold, really.
