Dazed & Confused By Their Own....BS

By The Reverend Published: May 12, 2014

Remember when Mitt Romney relied on the Fox News narrative about Benghazi.....and embarrassed himself before a national presidential debate audience by sarcastically challenging....well...reality.....

"You said in the rose garden the day after the attack it was an act of terror?" Romney asked. "I want to make sure we get that for the record because it took the president 14 days before he called the attack in Benghazi an act of terror."

In those days Obama's critics were oh-so-upset by the president's word choices immediately following the violence in Benghazi. The "scandal" centered, at least partially, on the vocabulary of the conservative Democratic president. As silly and as inconsequential as that may sound.......that was how it was.

Obama critics actually tried to make a case of scandal out of whether or not the president used the word "terror" or "terrorism" in describing the violence at Benghazi....and whether, if Obama did reference "terror", did he use the word "terror" soon enough following the tragedy. Believe it or not.....that was a big portion of the GOP's argument with Obama over Benghazi immediately after the tragedy took place.

Unfortunately for Mitt Romney, not only did the former Massachusetts governor try to reduce the tragedy in Benghazi down to some scandal over the president's word choices after the fact.....whether Obama did or did not use the T word.....Romney also believed in the Fox News narrative that Obama never used the word "terror" while describing Benghazi in the immediate aftermath.

That's the kind of thing that can happen when faux narratives of EVERYTHING are simply accepted as truth by GOP candidates. The result for Romney was highly embarrassing.

Fast forward to yesterday.......

Appearing on Fox News on Sunday morning, House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) took a slightly different approach. While he said the select committee should focus on the events leading up to the Benghazi attack, he specifically said that members should investigate "the number of requests for more security and why it was not provided."

Now, I hate to break it to faux-narrative believers.....but Boehner's recommendation about focusing Boy Howdy's Select Committee on the question of why "more security" was "not provided" ahead of the violence in Libya.....will make Romney's debate faux-pas seem intelligent by comparison.

A month after the Benghazi violence, October 2012.....

Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah) acknowledged on Wednesday that House Republicans had consciously voted to reduce the funds allocated to the State Department for embassy security since winning the majority in 2010.

On Wednesday morning, CNN anchor Soledad O'Brien asked the Utah Republican if he had "voted to cut the funding for embassy security."

"Absolutely," Chaffetz said. "Look we have to make priorities and choices in this country. We have…15,000 contractors in Iraq. We have more than 6,000 contractors, a private army there, for President Obama, in Baghdad. And we’re talking about can we get two dozen or so people into Libya to help protect our forces. When you’re in tough economic times, you have to make difficult choices. You have to prioritize things.”

See the problem? The Republican Speaker of the House, for crying out loud, either doesn't remember that he and his House Republicans "absolutely" had to "make difficult choices" by cutting government funds to secure foreign consulates and embassies in 2011......or Boehner. like Romney before him, has lost the string on the faux-narrative that Fox and affiliated friends created for him and his fellow Republicans.

I have little doubt that Boy Howdy (R-SC), in his prosecutorial brilliance, will include the 'why requests for more security in Benghazi were not provided' line of questioning. After all, the objective of the new Select Committee is to do political damage to Hillary Clinton ahead of 2016.....and Hillary was Sec. of State at the time of the Benghazi tragedy.

But someone will have to explain to me how Hillary was supposed to pre-empt security problems in a country whose government had recently been overthrown and was still in great turmoil......when House Republicans had already nixed any new funding to...ahem....bolster foreign consulate security.

Rupert and Rush and Sean and Bill-O, along with a vast supporting network of cartoon character conservative bobbleheads have made it nearly impossible for elected GOP officials to keep up with their daily faux-narrativing. The misdirections, the conspiracy theories, the lies, the deceptions.....have become such a huge, steaming pile of.....confusion.....that even normally-not-insane Republicans like Romney and Boehner have difficulty now not appearing clueless.

The irony here is, I admit, sweet. The "vast right wing conspiracy machine" which was launched in the 90's to destroy our last Democratic president has, twenty years later, morphed into a political flesh-eating monster now threatening to destroy the credibility of the very political party it was meant to rescue.

Good work guys. This liberal blogger can't thank you enough. Please proceed.
