N.Y.Times Finally Getting It

By The Reverend Published: December 31, 2007

Perhaps this editorial in the N.Y.Times is an oblique shot directed at the Times bosses for hiring Bill Kristol as their new columnist......whatever the reason....this one smokes with reality....

Willard Romney On His American Kingship

By The Reverend Published: December 30, 2007

The primary reason so many progressives have called for the impeachment of Junior Bush/Cheney is because of their wide-ranging and multiple abuses of executive power. That's really the crux of the issue.

When Newspapers Print Lies

By The Reverend Published: December 28, 2007

In today's Akron Beacon Journal opinion page, an opinion page that is losing touch with reality moreso each and every week, there is a piece defending waterboarding written by Mark Bowden. The piece focuses on Abu Zubaydah, captured in March 2002, and subsequently tortured. That torture included waterboarding.

Empty Words

By The Reverend Published: December 27, 2007

Immediately after September 11th, 2001, the President of the United States, George W. Bush, stated repeatedly that Osama bin Laden had to be "brought to justice". In fact, Junior went further. He said with bin Laden, justice meant "dead or alive".

It's nearly 2008. Osama bin Laden has not been "brought to justice" and George W. Bush has been documented as saying he's "really not that concerned about him" anymore, referring to the man he once said he wanted "dead or alive".

Walking In A Wingnut Wonderland

By The Reverend Published: December 27, 2007

Touring around the far right blog sites, if you can hold your nose long enough, is actually quite an informative journey. For example, I noticed that many of the righties do not like the fact that Preacher Mike Huckabee is doing so well in early primary polling. With Iowa only a week away now, and the Huckster still leading the other Republican candidates, some signs of far right desperation are beginning to appear.

Buyer's Remorse

By The Reverend Published: December 25, 2007

Part of the Republican Party's strategic plan over the last 25 plus years has been to rally fundamentalist, evangelical and conservative Christians to vote for GOP candidates through the questionable practice of moral values baiting. This plan has been uncannily similar to the GOP's southern strategy of race baiting, which has worked so well in holding those southern states who tend to still have white supremacy leanings. The moral values baiting program of the Republican Party has included a wave of gay bashing state initiatives (like Ohio's) to bring those far right Christians out to the voting precincts. The moral values Christian baiting program by the GOP includes the abortion and embryonic stem cell "debates".

The Injustice Department

By The Reverend Published: December 21, 2007

Cluttering up the Bush administration crime table top this week has been the gang rape story by Kellogg Brown and Root employees of the young American woman working inside of Iraq, the willful destruction of torture tapes by the CIA after having been ordered not to do so, and the ongoing clamor for the granting of amnesty to corporate communications Constitution breakers, like AT%T, who were co-conspirators in George W. Bush's 5 year, and counting, campaign of illegal spying on Americans.

62 Times 7

By The Reverend Published: December 20, 2007

Yesterday, Harry Reid (D-NV), as well as other Democratic leaders, spoke about the session of the Congress just ending. 62 times in just this year alone, Republicans have filibustered Democratic attempts to move the nation forward. While I will not apologize for the many moments of Democratic refusal to fight to the political death this obstructionistic one-third-plus-one-plus-presidential-veto minority rule over the last 12 months......there's no question that what Reid says in the following clip is true.....

Beacon Editors Remain Silent

Some Live Blogging Today From FISA Senate Debate

By The Reverend Published: December 17, 2007

Arlen Specter(R-PA) says he wants to substitute the government in the place of telco companies in the pending lawsuits concerning illegal wiretapping of American citizens. The reason is clear. He knows Bush's White House will stonewall, using national security and executive privilege excuses as it has done consistently for the last 7 years. Specter knows granting immunity to telcos doesn't look proper. So he acts like he is against that immunity while suggesting any court cases brought against the telcos be transferred to court cases against the government. Immunity by substitution. Specter knows this will prohibit the American people from finding out the full extent of the Bush White House criminality. Specter protects Junior while appearing to be against lawlessness. Arlen is slick, but still a criminal enabler. If communications corporations had their day in court, testimony and evidence could be devastating to Bush's bunch. That's why Arlen Specter, a centrist in name only, is arguing to replace telcos with the government.

Chris Dodd(D-CONN) and Russ Feingold(D-WI) argue for upholding the rule of law. It's amazing that arguments for the rule of law have to be.....well.....argued. Strange daze.

Update On Huckabee And Iowa

By The Reverend Published: December 16, 2007

In a previous post I had mentioned that Mike Huckabee's poll numbers had soared soon after Mitt Romney's speech on religion. It seemed to me that Iowa evangelicals had made their decision to caucus with Huckabee, a former successful evangelical preacher, at about the same time as Romney's speech. Huckabee now leads Romney in Iowa polling by double digits.

Why Does Junior Bush Hate Children So Much?

Romney's Anti-American Speech On Religion, Part 1

By The Reverend Published: December 8, 2007

It was supposed to be a clarification speech about Mitt Romney's Mormon faith. Romney is one of the frontrunner's in the GOP presidential candidacy race. Because the Republican Party is "owned by the evangelicals" now (according to the now deceased Jerry Falwell), and Mormonism is regarded as a cult by most evangelicals....as Desi used to say about Lucy....Mitt had "some explainin" to do. That "explainin" about the Mormon faith was supposed to be the focus of Romney's speech.

It wasn't.

Romney's Anti-American Speech On Religion, Part 2

More Impeachable Crimes Exposed

Enemy Questions

By The Reverend Published: December 2, 2007

Whenever Republican leaders are put in the vulnerable position of being questioned with questions that are, you know, inherently dangerous, those Republican leaders need protection. Ever since it became common knowledge that questions, themselves, are aligned with the enemy, demand for security against those enemy questions has been on the rise.

One would think that CNN, after 7 years of protecting Junior Bush from enemy questions, would fully appreciate the new paradigm of avoiding enemy questions. Confused About Abortion

Conservatives would like to end a woman's right to an abortion. This is not news. Striking down Roe vs. Wade has been the goal of the forced pregnancy lobby ever since Roe was decided.

All serious GOP candidates for president lay out their roadmap to end Roe and it always starts with appointing "strict constructionists" to the Supreme Court. Simple code words for "ending Roe".
