No Thinking At The Beacon
Another day....another misguided, fact rejecting, biased editorial by the Beacon. My question today is: Are all Beacon editorial writers simply dull and lazy....or are they all simply faith-basers?
Simple question, really.

Advice For Beacon Editors
I have no idea why Beacon editors don't know much of anything about the illegal spying done on Americans by the Bush/Cheney administration, or the FISA laws.
Baffling, really. Irresponsible would be another word that comes to mind.

Picking Up Where They Left Off
Barack Obama is opting out of public campaign financing. He is opting out of public campaign financing after he had filled out a questionaire early last year saying, if nominated, he would seek an agreement with the GOP nominee to use public financing in the general election campaign. Naturally, Obama's critics are foaming at the mouth at this turn of events and are calling for his impeachment before he is elected....or something along those lines.
Small ball compared to what's coming in the fall, to be sure.

Nothing Would Be Illegal
A topic I have written about extensively is back in the news again. The illegal warrantless wiretapping of American citizens ordered by the Bush administration. The weak and corporately bribed Democrats in the House, led by Steny Hoyer, have been trying their damnest recently to grant immunity to telecommunications companies, even though the companies have yet to be charged with anything. The House has re-written the re-write of the FISA re-write, caving in completely to Mr. 24 Percent.
Setting aside Steny's coddling of Commander Guy in this new re-write of 30 year old laws to protect citizens from government abuse, I want to focus only on the conditions in the new bill, yet to be voted on, granting immunity from prosecution to lawbreaking and co-conspiratorial telcos.

Gasoline Prices
The Reverend has written many posts on oil prices, the futures market gambling houses, how both political parties have helped to bring about our current high oil prices through refusal to regulate those gambling houses, and so on.

George W. Bush: Cruel And Lawless Tyrant
Kudos to the Beacon for today's McClatchy Newspaper piece written by Tom Lasseter. Mr. Lasseter explains how the lawlessness, savagery and unaccountability witnessed during the Bush/Cheney administration germinated and grew into the detainee torture and abuse disgrace the nation is finally finding out the details about today.

More About Supreme Court Ruling, Scalia, McCain
For those who might suggest Guantanomo is not under U.S. control and therefore the detainees we're holding there are not entitled to the most basic of habeas rights...

First Step In Repairing The Damage
If you go here....you can read yesterday's Supreme Court ruling, in effect, restoring habeas corpus rights. The case, Boumediene v. Bush, was decided by a 5-4 margin, with Justice Kennedy writing the decision for the majority. Justice Roberts and Justice Scalia each wrote dissents.

Early Polling
How about those early presidential polls, huh?
Obama hasn't even started slicing away at the seriously flawed candidate, John McCain....and he's leading by 6 percent.

Looking Back To Look Forward
The Reverend has been quite busy....summertime babeeee...as I'm sure everyone else has been. I thought this would be a good time for a review of the just completed warm-up Knee Pad Media act leading up to the feature Knee Pad Media act in the general election campaign.
Knee Pad Media, which includes the Brokeback Beacon Journal, haven't quite settled on which groove they'll play to try to help elect John McCain to the third term of George W. Bush in November. Brokeback seems to have adopted the policy of simply not printing Barack Obama's name. If a candidate is never mentioned or written about, is he really a candidate? That seems to be Brokeback's way forward.

Bitter About Government Promises
My good friend Ben Keeler over at Ohio Politics linked to an article dated April, 2008 about Barack Obama's "bitter" comment spoken from San Francisco that same month. Ben didn't include the original text of what Obama actually said, neither did his link...so here it is....

The Deception By Bush Administration Now Proven
The art of deception has been practiced ever since mankind has been around. Deceiving others in order to get your own way or in order to position yourself more favorably seems almost to be part of human kind's genetic code. It may very well be part of mankind's evolutionary "warts and all".
The danger for government leaders in the 21st century, if they practice the art of deception on their constituents in order to have their own way, is if those constituents find out that they are being, or have been, deceived.

Who Really Was Disenfranchised?
As I'm sure you know by now....the rules committee, bending over backwards for Hillary Clinton, has settled the Florida and Michigan non-primary primaries. The proof of the more-than-favorable ruling for Clinton is the fact that Hillary was given 10 more Michigan delegates than Obama......when Obama's name wasn't even on the ballot in that state's primary.
After this Tuesday.....the Obama-McCain general election campaign will officially begin.
