From Officer Crowley's written report....
Lucia Whalen, (the 9-11 caller) was standing on the sidewalk in front of the residence.....She went on to tell me that she observed what appeared to be two black males with backpacks on the porch.
The 9-11 caller's attorney, Wendy Murphy...."Let me be clear: She (the caller) never had a conversation with Sgt. Crowley at the scene. And she never said to any police or to anybody 'two black men.' She never used the word 'black.' Period."
More from Crowley's written report....
Gates seemed to ignore me and picked up and dialed an unknown number. As he did so, I radioed..that I was off in the residence with someone who appeared to be a resident but very uncooperative. I then overheard Gates asking the person on the other end of the call that he was dealing with a racist police officer in his home..... While I was led to beleive that Gates was lawfully in the residence, I was quite surprised and confused with the behavior he exhibited toward me.
I asked Gates to provide me with photo ID. Gates initially refused, demanding that I show him identification but then did supply me with a Harvard U. ID card. Upon learning that Gates was affiliated with harvard, I radioed and requested the presence of Harvard U. Police....
When Gates asked me a third time for my name, I explained that I was leaving his residence ad that if he had any other questions.....I would speak to him outside of the residence.....
When I left the residence, I noted that were several Cambridge and Harvard U. police officers assemble on the sidewalk...Additionally, the 9-11 caller and at least 7 unidentified passers-by were looking in the direction of Gates, who had followed me outside of the residence.
Due to the tumultuous manner Gates had exhibited in his residence as well as his continues tumultuous behavior outside the residence, in view of the public, I warned Gates that he was becoming disorderly. Gates ignored my warning and continued to yell, which drew the attention of both the police officers and citizens, who appeared surprised and alarmed at Gates' outburst. For a second time I warned Gates to calm down while I withdrew my...handcuffs from their carrying case. Gates again ignored my warning and continued to yell at me. It was at this time that I informed Gates that he was under arrest.
Dispatch...."Tell me exactly what happened."
Caller...."I don't know what's happening. I just had a woman standing here and she had noticed two gentlemen trying to get in the house...and they kinda had to barge in and they broke the screen door and finally got in and when I got a little closer to the house I noticed two suitcases...so I'm not sure if these are two indivuals who actually work, I mean live there.."
Dispatch...."Do you think they might be breaking in."
Caller..."I don't know. I have no idea"
Dispatch..."Do you think the possibility might have been there. What do you mean by barge in, did they kick the door in?"
Caller...."No, they were pushing the door in, like the screen part of the door had like caught..."
Dispatch..."What do the suitcases have to do with anything?"
Caller....."I don't know, that's why I'm saying that's what I saw."
Caller..."I don't know whether they live there and just had a hard time with their key...I just noticed they had to use a shoulder to try to barge in....and they got in, I don't know if they had a key or not."
Dispatch..."Are they white, black or Hispanic?"
Caller..."There were two larger men, one kind of looked Hispanic but I'm not really sure. The other man I didn't see what he looked like at all."
Police Dispatcher...."Respond to 17 Ware Street for a possible B & E in progress. Two men barged their way into the home...they have suitcases. Both men are inside the house...unknown on the race. One may be a Hispanic male, not sure."
Crowley..."I'm up here....gentleman says he resides here....uncoooperative, keep the cars coming. Can you also send the Harvard Police?"
Crowley...."I have an ID of a Henry Louis Gates Jr."
Gates...."It looked like an ocean of police had gathered on my front porch. there were probably half a dozen police officers at this point. The mistake I made was i stepped onto the front porch and asked one of his (Crowley's) colleagues for his name and badge number. And when I did, the same officer said, 'Thank you for accomodating our request. You are under arrest."
Crowley...."There will be no apology."
Fox interviewer..."Is this now and ever...no apology?"
Interviewer...."You probably heard what Obama had to say about the incident, what's your reaction to his comments?"
Crowley...."I didn't vote for him."
Interviewer...."Would you have done anything different." (In the Gates incident.)
Cambridge Police Commissioner, Robert Haas...."I believe Officer Crowley acted in a way that is consistent with his training."
I've had my say on this story.
The facts I post today show police abuse of authority and an escalation of the incident by Crowley by calling in many more policemen. These facts also prove that Officer Crowley lied in his report about the "black men with backpacks."
