The Obama administration's jackbooted regulator-thugs in the FDA don't believe in freedom. This was made clear last week when the FDA thugs banned yet another freedom food.....the yummable, hydrogen injected, trans-fat.
Under a president or a government agency where "real America" freedom was respected and revered.....trans-fat would still be bubbling away in those vats where doughnuts....and deep-fried Oreo cookies.....are normally prepared. But no....not under Obama, the freedom killer. Not under President Nanny and his meddling quasi-communist agencies.
To those sentinels standing watch over real America freedom, like plagiarism-plagued Senator Rand Paul (R-KY), Obama's FDA thuggishness in banning artery-clogging trans-fats means that Uncle Sammie Nanny is banning all production of doughnuts....
“They’re coming after your doughnuts!” the Kentucky Republican said, referring to the Food and Drug Administration decision to ban trans fats…. Paul’s remarks came during a speech at The Charleston Meeting in South Carolina Monday night.
He went on to argue, “The FDA has banned unilaterally – some unelected bureaucrat has banned trans fats…. If we’re gonna have a nanny state, and everybody’s gotta eat the right thing and you can’t eat a doughnut, maybe we ought to just enforce it on the government workers first.”
Rand Paul is a real America libertarian. And as a real America libertarian, Paul thinks that the market should decide all things. In libertarian thinking, the "market" is infallible......divine, even. When it comes to artery clogging, heart disease-exacerbating trans-fats, Paul still thinks real Americans in the marketplace, not "unelected bureaucrats" should decide, by their market choices, if trans-fats should be used when deep frying those double cheeseburgers and so forth.
In this way, Rand Paul is simply acting consistently. Paul disagrees with the Civil Rights Act of the 60's because he believes that the market should have decided, by it's purchasing choices, whether a restaurant or lunch counter should be able to discriminate, say, by refusing to serve black customers. In this real America thinking, if society is in favor of boot-strapping business owners refusing service to "the Other", then, society will reward those businesses who ban the Other from their establishments. If society disagrees with business owners who openly discriminate against the Other, then, societies purchasing choices will drive those businesses...out of business. You will often hear this type of real America thinking referred to as "let the market decide."
Now it's important to note here that Mr. Paul doesn't think the same way when it comes to marijuana.....
"I personally think that marijuana use is not healthy," Paul told the Las Vegas Sun in an interview....(July of this year).
Trans-fat-filled doughnuts being banned is evidence of nanny state oppression in a nation where the purchasing habits of the market should determine what is acceptable to sell and what isn't. But when it comes to ganga.....Paul puffs a different cloud of smoke.
In the brain-land of libertarianism, customer buying habits should determine the "safety", or market acceptance, of all things. Big Gub'mint, then, should simply stay out of the business of "promoting the general Welfare" of the People, as the Constitution's Preamble orders. Whether U.S. citizens are harmed, or killed, in the process is what true rugged individualism is all about. Choices.....like with healthcare insurance plans......are for free Americans to make, not some Bigfootng FDA, or EPA, or HHS. American market participants should have the freedom to purchase products which might harm, hoodwink or kill them without interference from the Nanny State. With the exception of reefer, of course.
If you imbibe hate-radio or Foxian teeee, you know that Obama's government, but not his predecessor's, is but one huge Nanny State Day Care operation. Under Obama, unlike any other president, government regulations are strangling.....strangling I tell ya'.....rugged individualist, bootstrapping business owners. There is simply no confidence, no hope for their profit-seeking futures anymore.....since the regulation Czars of THIS president laced up their jackboots. On a side note.....the Dow and S&P set new all time record highs this week.
What today's libertarianism is really all about is, naturally, another matter. Today's Rand Paul-ism is an effort in further enriching the already rich by preventing Big Gub'mint from regulating the businesses owned by those who are already rich. In other words, today's libertarianism is just another embodiment of the Real battle going on in our country......the rich versus the rest of us.
Libertarians have taken the side of the rich in that battle.
