The Health Care Reform "Debate"

By The Reverend Published: July 31, 2009

Howard Dean has distilled the health care reform debate down to it's essence. The debate pits the health insurers of America against the American people. It really is as simple as that.

Thus far, Congressional Republicans have sided with the health insurers and most of the Democrats have sided with the American people. Conservative Democrats, like Kent Conrad and Max Baucus, want to have it both ways....make it appear as if they are on the side of the American people while working to insure that health insurance companies can protect the status quo. Having it both ways is not easy to pull off.

Tweety-Bird On Evolution & God

By The Reverend Published: July 30, 2009

MSNBC's Chris Matthews is quite the narcissist. What Matthews, in essence, is all about on his daily Hardball program,.... is hearing himself talk. It's always and invariably all about Chris Matthews. He is a case study in D.C Villagerdom. He regards himself as a kind of common sense Lone Ranger (like David Broder). As far as Matthews is concerned, the left has too many whackos and the right has too many wingnuts, leaving him and a handful of Very Serious Centrist Thinkers to make grown-up sense out of all the "extremist" nonsense out there in the political universe.

In May Matthews took on Mike Pence (R-IN) about the anti-science and anti-evolution beliefs of American conservatives. Start at the 2:40 mark for the sake of today's post....

What $1.4 Million A Day Buys

By The Reverend Published: July 28, 2009

We have learned that the health industry lobbyists are spending $1.4 million per day persuading Congress to do what they want and not what the American people want.

We also know that the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America has "doubled its spending to nearly $7 million in the first quarter", to fight against the needs of the American people and for a continuation of their high profits.

What We've Been Witnessing

By The Reverend Published: July 27, 2009

We witnessed it during the presidential campaign with the incessant profiling of voters by media along racial lines.

We witnessed it when repeatedly white teevee anchors wrung their hands over whether the black candidate could win the white vote. Surely, we were told, the Bradley effect would be operational.

Misuse of Authority

By The Reverend Published: July 26, 2009

So...your key isn't working in the front doorlock when you return from your vacation. You go around back and enter your own home through the back door. Unbeknownst to you, someone walking by while you were having trouble with your front doorlock had called the police. Apparently, the passerby interpreted your struggle with your own front doorlock as attempted breaking and entering.

Shortly after entering your house from the back, police arrive. You exchange words with one of the police officers. The exchange gets heated when you are asked to prove it's your house. The volume of the exchange rises. The police sees evidence that it is your home. You ask for the policeman's badge number. The police officer involved in the exchange refuses to give you his badge number. A small crowd begins to gather outside, apparently in response to the now-loud exchange going on.

Obama Is A U.S. Citizen....But

By The Reverend Published: July 25, 2009

I've been pointing out that conservatives, with their Ever-ready-powered Villager media stenographers in tow, are together reaching critical mass in their oppostion to Obama and the Democrats' attempts to reform health care in America.

"It Works"

By The Reverend Published: July 24, 2009

There was G.Gordon Liddy on my teevee screen last night telling me that there's a deposition by Barack Obama's step-grandmother swearing that Barack was born in a Kenyan hospital or clinic. I don't know why Liddy didn't bring a copy of the deposition with him.

Liddy, a convicted felon from the Watergate glory days, and a regular on Corporate Media, suggested that not only was Obama not born in the U.S.....but that he probably is still an undocumented immigrant and should be picked up by law enforcement. Approximately 15 minutes was spent discussing this "serious" issue.

Worried To Death About Top 1%

By The Reverend Published: July 19, 2009

I had a brief conversation yesterday with a conservative relative about health care reform. The concern that my relative had over Obama's plan was that surgeons might just stop practicing surgery, or go elsewhere, if their fees were limited in any new way.

The point I took away from the conversation is similar to the larger point being blanketed by the corporate media over discussions about health care reform: very rich people will not be quite as rich if all Americans have affordable health care. That, to conservatives, is a very, very serious problem.

How The Village Thinks

By The Reverend Published: July 17, 2009

Popular blogger Glenn Greenwald interviewed NBC's political news director, Chuck Todd, yesterday. (Transcript here) The topic of discussion was why the Bush administration should or should not be investigated for numerous crimes....and what role the media should play in the debate.

I must hand it to Chuck Todd for braving such an interview. Todd is basically a good guy. His view of things is skewed, not because he is some neo-con cheerleader or dishonest broker....but because he is a member of Washington's elite Village.

A Steaming Pile Of The Village

By The Reverend Published: July 16, 2009

The Washington Post's David Ignatius is a personal case study in what's wrong down in the Village. Again the AB Journal gives Ignatius top billing on it's op-ed page....and again, Ignatius lays down the isolated and rotted Village mindset.

If the U.S. federal government, according to Ignatius, holds it's agencies, like the CIA, accountable for it's actions.....then "other countries" who might otherwise "admire America's committment to democracy and the rule of law" would simply "conclude that we are all plain nuts."

If you don't read Glenn Greenwald's blog at regularly.....I highly recommend doing so. I have been reading Greenwald for a few years. He is a constitutional lawyer with a razor sharp writing style that's easy for laypeople, like me, to follow. Of all print media, Greenwald's blog ranks 9th in a list of the most widely read publications.

This morning Greenwald blogs about yesterday's released Inspector General's report on former president Bush's NSA activities.

As California Goes?

By The Reverend Published: July 10, 2009

California is now issuing IOU's to meet it's financial responsibilities. The state has debt to the tune of $24 billion and referendums to remedy the problem have all gone down to defeat. The state is bankrupt on know, like most of those Big Wall Street Banks that are too big to fail. But California? No, not too big to fail.

As California goes the nation. Does the saying apply to the economic future of the U.S.? Will every state follow suit and crash and burn under heavy loads of debt during this nasty and lengthy recession?

CNN Propaganda

By The Reverend Published: July 8, 2009 did a piece yesterday on CNN's Dana Bash. Bash did a CNN report on Canadian health care. The perspective the CNN reporter took was the same as Republican Mitch McConnell's......and I might add, the same that many far right commenters have repeated on the Blog of Mass Destruction.

The Bash piece attempted to focus on how long Canadians might have to wait for specific treatment, even repeating this false rumor from McConnell....

Red State Values

By The Reverend Published: July 3, 2009

Over the past 30 years I've heard a lot of pious baloney about traditional values voters in those so-called Red States. A lot of pious baloney. This faux morality, for the most part, hasn't been touted by your average Red State citizen. Rather, pious baloney has been served up, mostly, by Republican politicians, their enablers, and the "Moral Majority" types like the late Jerry Falwell, Ralph Reed, Gary Bauer, James Dobson, and Ohio's own Ken Blackwell.

The theme of these "values" spokespeople has been consistent. America is morally depraved, our national culture nearly as bad as ancient Sodom and Gomorrah, and if we don't wake up and smell the brimstone, god will be left with no alternative but to withdraw his "protective hand" from the United States.

What do I mean by anti-sex?
