GOP Hooker Client: The U.A.W. "Blew It Up"

By The Reverend Published: December 12, 2008

UPDATED BELOW

The Reverend doesn't believe in a literal hell, but if I did, a number of new reservations for the place would have been confirmed last night.

Southern state GOP Senators, in particular, knew that they had the Democrats by the balls on the automaker bridge loan bill. So they squeezed. From now on, when the subject of why and how General Motors went belly up.....comes up, we can point to the proud Republican Party and the great work they did last night. They must be soo..ooo proud.

After Senate Republicans balked at supporting a $14 billion auto rescue plan approved by the House on Wednesday, negotiators worked late into Thursday evening to broker a deal, but deadlocked over Republican demands for steep cuts in pay and benefits by the United Automobile Workers union in 2009.

Tennessee GOP Senator, Bob Corker....a genuine corker, if you know what I mean....went through the motions of "seeking" a compromise late into last evening....but it wasn't really a compromise, it was just good old fashioned union bashing and busting....

Under Corker's plan...

The automakers would also have been required to cut wages and benefits to match the average hourly wage and benefits of Nissan, Toyota and Honda employees in the United States.

It was over this proposal that the talks ultimately deadlocked with Republicans demanding that the automakers meet that goal by a certain date in 2009 and Democrats and the union urging a deadline in 2011 when the U.A.W. contract expires.

Never mind that all of this is utter bullsh*t....watch the first 3 minutes of last night's Countdown to see why....

Long and short....Toyota workers in Kentucky, which just happens to be sh*tkicking, drawler Mitch Mconnell's state...make $3 more an hour than the average United Auto Worker does.

Pure, unadulterated hatred for unions and unionized workers. The very institutions that built America's middle class. Just as the Republican Party cares little for the concerns of blacks because blacks vote Democratic....soo too unions and union workers. The hatred is so bitter and runs so deep that a few southern state sh*tkickers actually had the audacity to BLAME the union for the bill's failure.

Sometimes diaper wearing, sometimes hooker patronizing, and all the time moral values spitting ass-wipe David Vitter weighed in last night....no doubt after spending some quiet time in solemn prayer first....

“It sounds like the U.A.W. blew it up,” said Senator David Vitter, Republican of Louisiana.

You would think that a guy caught hiring hookers would avoid talk about, you know, blowing....but hey, once saved from accountability by your Lord...always saved from accountability. It's a southern thing.

Exaggerated southern drawler Dick (may I call you Dick?) Shelby(R-ALA) didn't include any discussion about the three foreign automakers that received taxpayer giveaways from his state, when he insisted it was the Big Three workers' union which collapsed any hope for a bridge loan.

Senator Richard C. Shelby of Alabama, the senior Republican on the banking committee and a leading critic of the auto bailout proposal, said: “We’re hoping that the Democrats will continue to negotiate but I think we have reached a point that labor has got to give. If they want a bill they can get one.”

Starting the first week of January, Congressional Democrats should include Mr. Shelby's thinking here into ever bit of legislation. Paraphrasing: "We've reached a point (with a Democratic majority Congress) where Republicans have got to give. If Republicans want a say, they can have a say,.... by voting with the Democrats."

Oh, and I would also suggest going all Blago on these union-job-destroying bastards....you know.....f*ck them.

UPDATE: Right on cue, NY Times columnist, David Brooks, joins in the union blaming delusion...

"Some Americans believe the automakers should be bailed out even without the reforms proposed by Senator Bob Corker. But without those reforms, which were shot down in the Senate Thursday night, the bailouts would go on and on into infinity."

Seriously now.....what an asshole. By almost 2-1, Americans were FOR the automaker bridge loan. But you see, Americans are just ignorant single celled creatures.....not like the fully developed asshole, Brooks.
