How It's Done

By The Reverend Published: May 14, 2010

The other day I mentioned that Obama's Supreme Court nominee, Elena Kagan, would be easily confirmed but not before months of totally nonsensical and embarassing political and teevee-dunderhead theater.

I think I underestimated the situation.....

Pat Buchanan: "Women's softball has been associated with lesbians and being gay for a long time.....That's been sort of a signal, like two men sunbathing together on a beach or something like that. The immediate implication is that they are gay. I've known that for a long time."

I consider myself to be in tune with what's happening. I try my best to stay informed. I keep up as much as I can with popular culture trends, language usage, etc.

But I never knew that if women and girls play, you know, softball, that means they are associating themselves with being gay.

Who knew? Hell, I thought females were just, like, playing softball.

The Wall Street Journal, the propagandist rag that it is, baited the gay and lesbian community to respond to this 17 year old picture of Ms. Kagan......

The GLBT community responded....

“Personally I think the newspaper, which happens to have the largest circulation of any in the US, might as well have gone with a headline that said, ‘Lesbian or switch-hitter,’ said John Wright, of the gay newspaper Dallas Voice.

Discrimination today is often done this way. It's too politically incorrect to come right out and say what you want to, masters of the arts of deception, and bigots, must resort to oblique attacks.

Conservatives want to question Elena Kagan's sexuality. They want to raise the question. They suspect Ms. Kagan just may be a lesbian because she has never married. But conservatives don't want to come right out and say that she is......I mean, how would that look and sound? Way too bigoted.

But a conservative rag of a newspaper can try to bait-out a response from actual gays and lesbians....thus introducing, what they will later call, a "legitimate" line of questioning into the "national discussion." The WSJ responded to their softball picture being characterized as an attempt to suggest Kagan is a lesbian as..."absurd."

Now people are talking about that the racist and intolerant Pat Buchanan...and people are writing little gems like this....

Although Democrats may have attempted to have the matter swept under the rug, it now appears that there is proof that recently nominated Supreme Court Justice, Elena Kagan is in fact a lesbian. The rumors had surfaced in recent days, with Google inquiries into her personal life ranking highly in the trends of the search engine. According to the Wall Street Journal, the proof is contained in a yearbook photo of her in which she is playing softball and holding a bat. Softball has long been considered to be a “lesbian” pastime, and the picture is not going to help her keep a lid on the story.

And Very Serious Professional News People can then write headlines like this.....

The U.K Telegraph...

Elena Kagan 'outed' as lesbian by Wall Street Journal softball picture

An American newspaper has been accused of attempting to "out" Supreme Court nominee Elena Kagan as a lesbian by publishing a front page photograph of her playing softball.

In this specific conservative game, you see, the WSJ (owned by Rupert Murdoch) specifically chose to print Kagan's softball picture to provoke a negative response from gays and lesbians. That response, as we can see from the UK Telegraph's sub-headline, then allows for the bigoted conservative WSJ rag to be seen as the "accused." Poor Wall Street Journal, those awful gays and lesbians are accusing them of being despicable bigots.

WSJ: 'What? We didn't do anything. It's absurd to thing we went through thousands of pictures of Elena Kagan until we found just the right one that gays and lesbians would object to, yet, at the same time, still give us plausible deniability about our own calcified bigotry.'

I predicted that the Kagan confirmation process would be chock full of hollow nonsense from media and politicians...all preening before the cameras.

However, I should have known that the conservative hellions in the land, anxious to display their hatred and bitterness towards the "other" amongst us (Hint: Arizona).....would jump headfirst into the cesspool of intolerance and bigotry.

I guess they can't help themselves. Must be in the DNA, or something.
