*You know how I congratulated the NRA just the other day for acting like "responsible gun owners" and speaking out against the madness associated with Open Carry Texas and similar groups? I take it all back. Frack the NRA.
**I see that the crazified crew is "just wondering" if Hillary is using a walker in her People magazine cover shot.
Now, however unseemly, ......time to review yesterday's not-surprising reaction to the release of Sgt Bowe Bergdahl. It was slightly less than inspiring to watch the truly terrible Morning Blow participants yesterday morning revert to impersonating the Republicans during the Terri Schiavo embarrassment. Say what?
Everyone on the MSNBC "news" show, surprisingly, had become doctors....I guess, overnight. You see, Mika and the gang saw the Taliban video of Bergdahl's release. And by gum, Bergdahl's health looked good. Why, the Seargent walked.....can you believe it?...walked to the helicopter.
And if Bergdahl walked to the helicopter......then the Obama administration must be lying about the rationale for moving quickly to make a prisoner swap. "I just don't understand it", Mika mused. No kidding.
A secret intelligence analysis, based on a comparison of Taliban videos of Sgt. Bergdahl in captivity in 2011 and December 2013 that were provided to the U.S., found that the soldier's rate of deterioration was accelerating. The latest video, provided to U.S. officials by mediators in Qatar, has never been publicly shown. Officials who have seen the video described Sgt. Bergdahl's condition as "alarming."
One anonymous defense official summed up the calculus behind the exchange: Bergdahl's value as a prisoner was declining rapidly, along with his health, as U.S. troops were slated to pull out of Afghanistan.
"We believe they saw Bergdahl as a golden egg. That is why they kept him alive and as healthy as possible. But as he deteriorated, some people believe he became more of a burden to them," the official told the Journal. "And as the war was ending some of them [Taliban] came to doubt his value. He was more of a liability as his health declined."
Of course, it's possible, I suppose, that the "anonymous defense official" is a secretive Muslim turncoat, you know, like President Obama.
And then again, it's possible that Republicans and conservatives who still exploit the deaths of 4 Americans in Benghazi, are simply cranking up their Giant Political Bullshite Spreader for....wait for it.....political reasons.
To see how this ugly stuff is manufactured quietly behind the scenes, I recommend this NY Times article.
“Yes, I’m angry,” Joshua Cornelison, a former medic in Sergeant Bergdahl’s platoon, said in an interview on Monday arranged by Republican strategists.
“He wouldn’t drink beer or eat barbecue and hang out with the other 20-year-olds,” Cody Full, another member of Sergeant Bergdahl’s platoon, said in an interview on Monday also arranged by Republican strategists.
Explain why it was that "Republican strategists" were interviewing Bergdahl's platoon members. Why, do you suppose, "Republican strategists" were so anxious to spin a contradictory yarn concerning Sgt Bergdahl? Do you think that these Republican strategists care one bit about the fate of Sgt. Bergdahl.....OR.....did those GOP strategists determine beforehand that if a prisoner swap emerged for the release of Bergdahl......they would exploit that release by eviscerating Obama, Sgt. Bergdahl and his parents?
Here's the answer.....
“They keep telling me it’s going to be Obama’s Willie Horton moment,” Grossman warned the White House. The threat was as ugly as it was clear: The president’s political enemies were prepared to use the release of violent prisoners to paint Obama as a Dukakis-like appeaser, just as Republicans did to the former Massachusetts governor during the 1988 campaign.
That was from TWO YEARS AGO.
One more thing.....and this one you may not have heard yet.
Between 2007 and 2009, President George W. Bush released 520 detainees from the facility at Guantanamo Bay – at least that’s how many are officially recorded. One of those detainees was Abu Sufian bin Qumu, who is a suspect in the Benghazi embassy attack.
You don't say. GOP President G.W. Bush released 520 detainees from Gitmo. And one of those released is suspected of taking part in the Benghazi attack.
What do have here? First we have a Republican Party which has made an occupation out of exploiting the deaths of 4 Americans at Benghazi, Libya. Second, Republicans warned Obama 2 years ago they would politically exploit any prisoner swap deal. Third, we have the prisoner exchange deal freeing the only U.S. soldier held captive in Afghanistan. Fourth, Republicans carry out their threat to go hysterical when Obama makes the prisoner swap deal. And finally, of the 520 detainees released during the Bush presidency, at least one is suspected of taking part in the Benghazi attack.
That brings us full circle, don't you think?
Republicans really care about those who serve our country in foreign countries. They care because they can exploit them for their own political purposes.
