Maliki Backs Obama's 16-Month Timetable
Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki has endorsed Barack Obama's call for a timetable to leave Iraq, a development with serious ramifications for the American debate over foreign policy. "US presidential candidate Barack Obama talks about 16 months," Maliki told German news magazine Der Spiegel. "That, we think, would be the right timeframe for a withdrawal, with the possibility of slight changes." Link
I am fully cognizant of the fact that this comment by Maliki will not be allowed to stand as is. Truth is currently out of vogue inside the U.S.....and truth about George W. Bush and John McCain's imperialistic war of choice simply won't be allowed to prevail. It hasn't yet.
Witness Georgie rushing in with his "time horizon" nonsense, so as not to be overshadowed by Maliki. What the hell is a "time horizon"?.....
"the White House announced that President Bush, in a significant shift, had agreed to a “general time horizon” for withdrawing American forces, though not on the strict timetable Mr. Obama favors. Link
Donning their knee pad gear, I expect the mainstream media folks to do their best to attenuate the meaning of all of this. The Monday through Wednesday screecher programs will be spinning so much to save their warrior heroes, Bush and McCain, that viewers will have to hold on to the edge of their chairs to keep from getting sucked into the teevee.
Warrior and Leader W. has stated repreatedly that "leaving is losing". Sydney McCain has repeatedly said that he doesn't see anything wrong with stationing U.S. troops inside Iraq for "100 years".
Maliki should have checked with the American media's neo-con coverage protocol sheet before saying something that appears to be in agreement with Barack Obama's position vis-a-vis Iraq.
As all the wise, experienced and in-touch Knee Padders go about claiming that what Maliki said actually lines up with Bush and McSames' policy......don't forget to consider these Maliki words....
“Those who operate on the premise of short time periods in Iraq today are being more realistic,” he said, according to the magazine. “Artificially prolonging the tenure of U.S. troops in Iraq would cause problems.”
"more realistic".....that's how Maliki is describing Barack Obama's position regarding Iraq. More realistic than, say, McCain's "100 years".
Baker Hamilton recommended it, the Democrats in Congress repeatedly recommended it, Obama has always recommended ending our occupation of Iraq, ......now Bush is using weeenie words like "time horizon" as he recommends it.....what's a poor John McSame to do?
The Knee Padders will tell you, starting with today's Sunday gagathons, that all of this.....all of it....somehow, benefits McCain and vindicates Georgie and Sydney's pre-emptive war policy. Somehow, Maliki's call for the U.S. military to leave Iraq over the short term, will wind up meaning "we won". Our Resolute an Unflinching Warrior Leaders with their spines of steel, codpieces of prominence, and bull-in-a-china-shop policy of naked aggression.....have "prevailed". Take that to the bank.
