Intelligence Committee: No Wrongdoing Over Benghazi, Village Slumbers

By The Reverend Published: August 5, 2014

The House Permanent Committee on Intelligence moved on Thursday to declassify a report on the 2012 terrorist attacks in Benghazi.

“The Intelligence Committee….reaches the same noncontroversial conclusions – that the initial talking points provided by the intelligence community were flawed because of conflicting assessments not an intention to deceive, that there was no stand down order, that the diplomatic facilities lacked adequate security, and that our personnel at the scene acted bravely and appropriately,” said Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif), a member of the committee. Schiff also sits on the House’s select committee on Benghazi.

“House Intelligence Committee, led by Republicans, has concluded that there was no deliberate wrongdoing by the Obama administration in the 2012 attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, Libya, that killed Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans, said Rep. Mike Thompson of St. Helena, CA, the second-ranking Democrat on the committee.”

There has been no comment from any Republicans on the Committee seeking to counter those claims. That seems to suggest that Rep. Mike Thompson's and Rep. Adam Schiff's descriptions of Committee findings are correct. Think about it.....when has bad news for Obama ever been stifled by Republicans? Their silence now speaks volumes.

The Committee sent their investigative report to be who knows if the public will ever get to read those findings.

But think about what a Republican controlled Intelligence Committee has now concluded about Benghazi. Conflicting assessments by the intelligence community immediately following the tragedy in Benghazi, no stand down orders issued, inadequate security at the outpost, and no deliberate wrongdoing by the Obama administration.

In other words.....Benghazi, though a tragedy, was never a scandal.

The American Prospect....

After nearly two years of investigations, millions of dollars spent, tens of thousands of pages of documents handed over by the administration, a Republican-led committee is about to release a report stating that there is no evidence of wrongdoing on the part of the Obama White House. In fact, nearly all of the accusations levied against the White House over the past year by conservatives in Congress, and amplified by the media, have now been determined to be false—by a Republican jury.

Indeed. So, the question now is whether Boehner's Select Committee to Investigate Benghazi should move forward. Redundancy atop ridiculousness, as it were.

The Daily Beast....

“There is deep unease within the Republican leadership that the select committee, which has yet to announce a schedule of hearings, could backfire, and badly. Investigate and find nothing new, and the committee looks like a bunch of tin-hatted obsessives. Investigate and uncover previously-hidden secrets, and it makes all of the other Republican led panels that dug into Benghazi seem like Keystone Kops.”

A predicament which couldn't happen to a more well-deserving bunch of guys.

The response by Republicans to the tragedy at Benghazi Sept.11, 2012 can best be described as pre-emptive scandalmongering. Declaring a huge....huge scandal before evidence came in to warrant claiming such a thing. The violence happened at a "consulate" in Benghazi.....and that was all that Republicans needed to begin pointing the finger at Sec. of State Hillary Clinton.

And despite the Intelligence Committee....non-findings.....the words Hillary and Benghazi will undoubtedly be used in political campaign ads by Republicans come 2016. Because Benghazi was never about was always about doing political damage, pre-emptively, to the Democrat favored to take the White House in 2016.

But just think about all the air time conservative media has given to discussing Benghazi. One could almost watch the hysteria rising in real time each day over the last two years. Each GOP accusation of wrongdoing by Obama or Clinton or Rice became more bodacious than the last one. Lies built upon gossip built upon rumor, which in turn was all built upon earlier lies, gossip and rumor.

But all that crazy stuff went poof....simply evaporated as if it never existed, with last week's House Intelligence Committee vote. Now, what should Republicans do? Go ahead with Boy Howdy's Select Committee investigation into Benghazi....or not?

The Daily Beast again....

Attempting to placate the ideological fringes of the Republican conference by using a taxpayer-funded investigation is at best the most cynical form of politics. To continue the charade after a Republican chairman releases findings that undermine the very core of your investigation is outright fraud.

Cynicism...or decide.....because Republicans are moving forward, even if totally empty handed, to campaign against Hillary using tax payer dollars. Because here's what Benghazi has always been about all along....

But the Benghazi Select Committee will keep on moving forward. And it will not end after the 2014 elections. If Hillary Clinton chooses to run, the committee will become a principal tool in the conservative movement’s campaign apparatus against her, holding hearings designed to obscure the truth and smear Clinton during the least opportune moments of the electoral cycle.

And if Clinton is elected in 2016, there is little doubt the work of the committee will continue as long as Republicans continue to control the House of Representatives. Why surrender a taxpayer-funded campaign attack dog, especially one endowed by Congress with subpoena power?

Now, haven't I been telling everyone for awhile that if you are disgusted with our nation's political realities're really gonna hate what's coming the next few years?
