Sad to see the 2016 Republican Convention coming to Cleveland. I realize that corporate/economic national practices have turned all big city leaders into beggars sitting on the corner waiting for Corporate Daddy Warbucks to adopt them and shower them with free national media public relations time and a few extra sales tax dollars.....but what ever happened to basic integrity?
Speaking of lack of integrity.....I also noticed yesterday that the GOP's vice presidential candidate in 2008, "you betcha", called for the impeachment of President Barack Obama.....
“It’s time to impeach; and on behalf of American workers and legal immigrants of all backgrounds, we should vehemently oppose any politician on the left or right who would hesitate in voting for articles of impeachment,” Palin wrote in a column published Tuesday on the conservative website Breitbart. “The many impeachable offenses of Barack Obama can no longer be ignored. If after all this he’s not impeachable, then no one is.”
But my topic of focus today is not about the national fools and foolishness of the day......but rather the national professional media which chooses which daily fools and what daily foolishness is important for us non-professionals to know about.....undoubtedly so that we will all be better informed.
On June 17th, it was reported that the primary suspect in the Benghazi attack had been captured by U.S. special forces. The subject of the Benghazi attack, you may have noticed, has been in the professional media news every week for the last, almost, three years.
On Sunday, June 22nd, then, one would expect that the capture of the Benghazi suspect would be an important topic for consideration on all the main teevee-media's Sunday "news" shows.....
Across the dial on Sunday, every broadcast network political show — which are credited with setting the public agenda debate inside the Beltway — failed to address the news about the Benghazi suspect. It was news that reflected positively on the Obama administration. It was news that the Republican Party did not seem happy about. And it was news that the Sunday shows deemed to be un-newsworthy.
Seems odd, doesn't it? Two plus years of over-the-top echo-chambering by professional media over some alleged scandal cover-up by the Obama-ites, endless reporting on multiple House committee show hearings concerning Benghazi, breathless breaking-news of eyewitness accounts by CBS sources who were not eyewitnesses, daily reports of Republicans calling, calling, calling...for a Select Committee to investigate....something, and finally the self-satisfied reporting by professionals when Boy Howdy (R-SC) was appointed to head up said Select Committee.
Hundreds of combined hours of professional media coverage of Benghazi.....until the primary suspect was captured by U.S. special forces on orders from President Obama. Then.....nothing.
An anomaly? A one-off oversight? Don't be silly.
The week of July 4th, these two newsworthy things happened......first, the DOW broke through 17,000 for the first time ever. The DOW is said to be an indicator of overall economic strength in the country. Second, the July 3rd jobs report informed that....
....nearly 300,000 news jobs were created in the month of June. Consequently, the unemployment rate fell to 6.1 percent, the lowest level since September 2008.
The jobs surge meant America had logged its highest January-through-June job-growth rate since 1999. (The U.S. has added 1.4 million jobs since December, making it the best half-year since the recession ended.) And over the past 52 months of jobs growth, businesses have created nearly 10 million jobs.
Surely, the Sunday show professionals would, at least, mention those two newsworthy items on their July 6th morning programs. Good news is rare....and so one would think that those two tidbits of encouraging news would be on the Sunday shows agendas. But no.....
....none of this was discussed on Face The Nation, Fox News Sunday, Meet The Press, or This Week; shows which, in theory, debate and analyze the weeks' most important news developments.
Why, do you think, that was the case? Coincidence? Oversight?
Increasingly, the Sunday shows seem to revolve around inviting Republican guests onto the shows and letting them vent about whatever they think the Obama administration is doing wrong. Period. But when the U.S. economy shows signs of robust growth? When the stock market continues to hit new historic highs? Republicans aren't very interested in talking about Obama successes so, it turns out, neither are the Sunday shows.
There it is.
And when you think about it, ever since Obama was elected in 2008, the professional media has not been interested in discussing anything in depth which the GOP isn't interested in talking about. That's why, unbelievably, the loser of the 2008 presidential election, John McCain, appeared seventeen times on the Sunday morning shows in 2009 alone. I guess, losers have their privileges.
We are living in an age of radical erosion of our national character and integrity. Professional media is leading that erosion. Professional media has now become the enemy of a free and open society, it's purpose now to "report" on what Republicans are interested in having reported and refusing to report on anything Republicans don't want reported.
One can call them "lamestream", others can call them "drive-bys", most call them "liberal".......but the truth is.....they are propagandist protectors of the party of the rich and powerful. Fair and balanced Republican partisans.
