Corporate media exists today to shape and direct "news" narratives for the benefit of very wealthy and powerful business interests. If you have been under the impression that the job of corporate media.....big newspaper, big radio, big cable and big network teevee.....is to properly and truthfully inform the public about important news stories, then I would recommend getting out from underneath that impression. Because it's false.
Example: According to NOAA scientists, the average temperature for the contiguous U.S. for 2012 was 55.3°F, which was 3.2°F above the 20th century average and 1.0°F above the previous record from 1998.
Example: ....by an area about the size of Texas, Arctic sea ice extent shrunk below the previous record low established September 18, 2007.
This year’s record low extent follows a long-term decline. The 6 lowest extents on record have all occurred in the last 6 years.
“We are now in uncharted territory,” said Mark Serreze, NSIDC director. “While we’ve long known that as the planet warms up, changes would be seen first and be most pronounced in the Arctic, few of us were prepared for how rapidly the changes would actually occur.”
Global climate change, global warming.....call it what you'd like.....is the real 800 pound gorilla in the room that very few in media admit is....really in the room.
CNN, ABC, NBC, CBS and FOX all have high-viewer Sunday morning "news" shows. You may be interested to know that....In Four Years, Sunday Shows Have Not Quoted A Single Scientist On Climate Change.
Not one single scientist? Think that's coincidence? An anomaly? Four years worth of prime "news" shows across 5 mega-networks, and not one scientist quoted on climate change. If you are like me and don't accept that not asking even one scientist in four years for an expert statement on climate change is not simply a coincidence.....but a template...you may also be interested in finding out that....
In 2012, the Sunday shows did not quote a single Democratic politician on climate change.
Not one Democrat. All year. Across five mega-network, Sunday morning "news" shows. Of all mentions of climate change on these Sunday programs, media figures comprised 54% of the mentions, Republicans 31% of the mentions and "other" 15% of the mentions. But not one Democrat. Again, do you think that is just random coincidence? Perhaps a year long oversight?
Nightly "news" coverage of global climate at the 5 mega-networks fared slightly better collectively racking up a total of just under an hour...for the entire year. NBC, known as the most "liberal" of all megas.....covered climate change the least in 2012 with a total time-dedicated-to of 17 minutes....for the entire year. But even then, most of the nightly "news" programs on the five mega-networks were primarily reporting on severe weather-related events....Storm Sandy, wildfires, etc....not global climate change in particular.
No scientists, no Democrats.....no mention of global climate change....from the 5 largest conduits in U.S. media.....all year. Almost seems conspiratorial, no?
I would suggest that, rather than a conspiracy,....the above data is evidence of a business plan. Huge oil, coal, and chemical corporations will see profits affected if the facts of man's contribution to global climate change are addressed, thoughtfully, in front of the American people. Many of these behemoths sponsor the very "news" programs where vital stories are alleged to be examined and explained. It is not in the interests of these huge oil, coal and chemical companies for David Gregory or Bob Schieffer to be delving into what scientists know about man's contribution to a warming planet.
So, no scientists are invited on.....for the entire year of 2012, the warmest year on record in the U.S......in order to prevent any honest answers based on science from being spoken or heard.
Call it the Don't Ask-Don't Tell media rule.
Democrats....famously known for their foolish devotion to the scientific method....are simply never asked any direct questions concerning global warming or climate change....and scientists?.....they're just so boring, all those numbers and equations and charts and whatnot. Besides, scientists will say anything to stay on that research-money gravy train.....common knowledge. Best just to never invite one to appear on a Sunday morning "news" program watched by millions.
We may be in the Information Age...but it is an Age where those who control the bulk of distributed "information" censor specific info and data from being heard or understood all for the sake of "profits." Put another way...and you'll have to excuse the crudeness....huge monied interests are back alley-searching johns looking for a prostitute information outlet who will perform exactly as their cash...umm...dictates.
When it comes to global warming or climate change....it seems today's profit seeking corporate "news" outlets are more than happy to oblige.
