What's The Problem With Iraq? It's America's Democracy

By The Reverend Published: July 31, 2007

David Ignatius is a columnist for the Washington Post. After reading his stuff for awhile now and listening and watching him on the teevee "news" shows, The Reverend has come to the conclusion that Ignatius, a nice man I'm sure, is a very, very, serious political writer and opinionist who sees things others are simply incapable of seeing.

Ignatius has been a strong supporter of Bush's Iraq crime turned quagmire. His columns cheerled the mighty Vietnam Avoiding Commander Guy as he deceitfully led America into his pre-emptive war of choice.

I Got Your "Cleavage Controversy" Right Here

By The Reverend Published: July 31, 2007

Wanna' find out how serious and solemn our political discourse is in America? Go to the Google, type in "cleavage controversy" and see how many links come up. What? Haven't heard about this yet, you say?

Just look at the valuable column inches in today's Beacon Journal opinion page ('Cleavage conundrum' by Judith Warner) given over to the Great and Perplexing Controversy About Hillary's.....gasp....dare I say it?.....CLEAVAGE!!!

The New York Times Knee Padders

By The Reverend Published: July 31, 2007

This is one of many case studies on how those oh-so-liberal Main Stream Media representatives seem to always do the bidding of the oh-so-neo-conservative White House.

What's In A Name?

By The Reverend Published: July 29, 2007

I have chosen the name Blog of Mass Destruction for a reason. Yes, it's obviously a rip off of the great danger we were warned about, the there that wasn't there, Weapons of Mass Destruction. The weapons that weren't and the threat that wasn't.

Talk of WMD's was part of a larger Madison Avenue style media campaign back in 2002-2003. A campaign to deceive Americans into believing Saddam Hussein's Iraq was a direct threat to America. That was the lie. Not that Saddam might have had WMD but that Iraq posed a direct threat to the United States.

The Heritage Foundation Loves Them Some Health Insurers

By The Reverend Published: July 29, 2007

In today's Beacon opinion page Robert Moffit of the conservative Heritage Foundation does his best to advocate for NOT placing more children on SCHIP(State Children's Health Insurance Program). He tries to make it sound like the modest proposal to include more children on the SCHIP rolls is just some first step in a conspiracy to nationalize health care.

The GOP: Political Party of the Tiny Penis

By The Reverend Published: July 28, 2007

I know, I know.....Sounds crazy, right? Sounds like The Reverend is simply reverting to conservative screecher's standard operating procedure of name calling and attempts to humiliate the opposition party, doesn't it?

Will Michael Moore Be Sent To The Gulag?

By The Reverend Published: July 28, 2007

Fascist minded regimes in history have all carried out, at least one, common practice. Silencing dissent. The Bush regime has rightfully been criticized for their ongoing attempt to silence dissent. Any and all criticism of the Decider and his Decisions after 9-11 were met with a kind of fierce retaliatory hatred. You remember.

Pat Tillman Murdered??

By The Reverend Published: July 27, 2007

The Pat Tillman saga is such a disturbingly sad one that has only become more disturbing after yesterday's news releases. Tillman, ex-Arizona Cardinal NFL'er, set aside fame and fortune and joined the U.S. military to become an Army Ranger. His reasons for joining were patriotic after the 9-11 tragedy but he was never a George W. Bush admirer. Tillman was quoted about the Iraq war of choice saying, "This war is so f*cking illegal."

Will Thompson Be Out Before He's In?

By The Reverend Published: July 26, 2007

Many conservatives are looking to Fred "Red Truck" Thompson to be the Republican Party's saviour in the 2008 presidential election. These same conservatives see Rudy, Mitt and the fellas' as either not far enough to the right or as simply unelectable for whatever reason.

The Reverend Defines A Few Blog Words

By The Reverend Published: July 25, 2007

Within the political blogosphere, you will find what may appear at first to be a somewhat curious usage of certain words, phrases, abbreviations, etc. This post seeks to clarify and define some of these. Misunderstanding and/or confusion is never good when seeking to communicate. The Reverend, at times, will use some of these terms for the purpose of mockery and ridicule, among other purposes.

Understanding Why They Are Obstructionists

By The Reverend Published: July 24, 2007

Ignorance is bliss, especially in America where just about everything else we are interested in is more important to us than how our political system works. However, that ignorance is exactly what cynical politicians count on while planning their deceptive strategies.

Meet The WINOS

By The Reverend Published: July 23, 2007

In political talk the acronyms RINO and DINO have significant import. "Republicans in name only" and "Democrats in name only" are what the letters, respectively, represent, but mockery of these political types is what is intended when said acronyms are thrown about by partisans on either side.

Want Fries With That War?

By The Reverend Published: July 22, 2007

The Reverend has known for 6 years that George Bush's White House puts politics first. In fact, many critics go so far as to say that this executive branch has nothing but politics to offer....there is no policy other than politics. That seems about right.

All the while the president was steadily sliding in the polls over the last few years, his spokespeople would always say the president just needed to get his "message" heard. Get it out there. That "message" consisted of sloganeering like "stay the course", "victory", "stand-up stand-down", "fightin' them there so....", "surge" and many other similar and trite slogans of meaninglessness.

Jeffrey Feldman has an article here telling about a $400,000 study done by the Rand Corporation for the Pentagon. Feldman writes.....

Romney Goes Two For Two

By The Reverend Published: July 21, 2007

Of all the GOP candidates for president, Mitt Romney is far and away the most dishonest about what he really, really, really(not kidding) believes in. Anyone following along with Mitt's talking points, quite honestly, can experience whiplash from the about faces he makes. Romney should consult with the transportation department about getting one of those yellow triangle caution signs permanently affixed to his back. It could read something like, "This Candidate Makes Abrupt Turnarounds", you know, something like that. The Reverend certainly doesn't want anyone to get hurt this election cycle. Prevention first and all.

GOP'er: "The Numbers Are Against Us"

By The Reverend Published: July 21, 2007

Let's all take note of the current date. Unless timewarp happened overnight today is July 21, 2007. That would mean that there are darn near 16 months before the general elections in November, 2008. So, it's a bit early for Republicans to be waving the white flag of surrender. At least one would think that. One would be wrong.

Rudy Said What?

By The Reverend Published: July 20, 2007

The current leader in the GOP race for president is none other than Rudy Giuliani. Mr. Mayor, he is called, among other names, reminding us, naturally, that he was the mayor of New York when the Towers came down. Which somehow qualifies him to become president....I guess.

Should We Expect A Commutation?

By The Reverend Published: July 19, 2007

When Should We Expect That Economic Surge?

By The Reverend Published: July 18, 2007

Huge income tax cuts and dividend and capital gains tax reductions have been in effect for a little while now. And I've been breathlessly awaiting that huge economic surge in America that conservatives have promised would happen because of all these tax cuts.

I'm still waiting.

Bush Is Who Madison Feared

By The Reverend Published: July 18, 2007

We're Not The Only Wicked Ones

By The Reverend Published: July 17, 2007

Today's statement by the Catholic Church reminds me of Senator and Mrs. Vitter's "apology" yesterday after the Senator from Louisiana was outed for his patronage of call girls and prostitutes. With the Senator and wife the "apology" included blaming the media. That's always a convenient way for "traditional values" politicians to attempt to change the subject away from their actual "sins".

Here's how the Catholic Church is responding to their $660 million settlement announced yesterday for child abuse by it's priests over the last 60 years:

Scrutinizing The Beacon's Standing For Scrutiny

By The Reverend Published: July 16, 2007

Our own Akron Beacon Journal's July 10th, 2007 editorial entitled Standing for Scrutiny needs....well.....scrutinized.

Commenting on a recent federal appeals court ruling that dealt with the legalities, or lack thereof, of President Bush's "eavesdropping on Americans without warrants" program, the Beacon echoes the other erroneous MainStreamMedia commenters when it writes, "(Judge Taylor's) decision attracted criticism from many legal experts for loose construction and failing to engage important government arguments."

That sentence sounds an awful lot like this one....
