Class Warfare?

By The Reverend Published: February 27, 2009

Some Villagers are just shocked that President Obama has introduced his new federal budget....and it includes (gasp) tax increases on those Americans making over 1/4 million per year. Shocked, I tell you. And let's be honest here....it's not like these Villagers, like Tom Raum from the AP,.... whose "Republicans accuse Obama of class warfare" "analysis" appears in today's AB Journal,.....had any advance warning. Barack Obama only campaigned on raising the wealthiest's taxes for 2 straight years.

So, after 24 months of telling Americans, if elected, the taxes of those who have benefitted the most over the last, say....30 years....would be increased....you can understand why the Villagers, who hang on every Republican complaint, would be shocked that Obama really, you know, meant it.

"Nationalization", The New Fairness Doctrine

By The Reverend Published: February 26, 2009

On the night of Barack Obama's historic presidential win....Fox News Freaks...and that's what they are....wet their pants in unison over an alleged plan by Obama and the Democrats to reinstate the Fairness Doctrine in media. Brit Hume, Karl Rove, Chris Wallace and Juan Williams, just minutes after Obama had been declared the winner, insisted that electing Obama meant the wingnut media sky would fall.

Eliminated during the Reagan administration, the reason for the Fairness Doctrine, originally, was to make sure that the public airwaves didn't unfairly propagandize or monopolize those airwaves by only airing one side of a debate or policy disagreement.

The guy is good. Really good.

President Barack Obama gave a commanding speech last night to a joint session of Congress, but his target audience was sitting at home watching on teevee. Here's the transcript.

The Relevancy Of The Right

By The Reverend Published: February 24, 2009

How to stay relevant while in the minority? That is the BIG question that faces Republican politicians who remain in Congress.

The reasons the GOP has become irrelevant are clear. Their main positions on policy and their governance capabilities have proven to be total failures in the last dozen years or so. American voters witnessed enough nonsense and booted the Republicans to the curb.

God's Deceivers

If you haven't read this morning's Bob Dyer Beacon Journal piece about the Akron Fossils & Science Center in Copley, do so here.

What could possibly be wrong with a place called the Akron Fossils & Science Center? Right? Fossils.....science....sounds educational, plus who doesn't like looking at fossils?

"Right America: Feeling Wronged"

By The Reverend Published: February 20, 2009

Filmmaker Alexandra Pelosi, daughter of Nancy Pelosi, reminds anyone listening that over 58 million Americans voted for John McCain and against now-President Barack Obama last fall. That's a lot of Americans. Pelosi's new film, "Right America: Feeling Wronged", aired last night on HBO, and is available now on HBO-On-Demand on Time Warner systems. The Mrs. and I watched last night.

Ms. Pelosi follows the McCain/Palin campaign, interviewing regular voters from places like, North Carolina, Virginia, Ohio, Indiana, and Pennsylvania. The regular folks Pelosi interviews are committed conservatives, the Republican base, who, each election cycle, religiously vote for GOP candidates and issues.....as is their right in free America.

Today's Akron Beacon Journal opinion page features David Broder's piece entitled, "Bipartisanship? Gotta have it". It's a typical Broder column where he mind-chases an invisible center in America.

Proof Texting

By The Reverend Published: February 17, 2009

UPDATED with cartoon below

Among fundamentalist Protestant Christians, the practice of "proof texting" the Bible is very common. Well meaning evangelical Christians very often rely on this methodology as they seek to defend their belief system. This approach is rarely, if ever, relied upon among Catholic Christians because the burden of proof with Catholics is the authority of the Church as interpreted through it's hierarchical governing sytem of popes, cardinals and bishops.

RNC Chair....."No Reason To Trust GOP"

By The Reverend Published: February 15, 2009

Unfortunately for Republican voters, the RNC voted to place Michael Steele at the helm of the Republican Party. Steele is quite a character. To be fair, it did take 6 ballots before Republican "leaders" decided to give Steele enough votes to become chairman. The Republican "leaders", it would seem, were not really sold on Mr. Steele.

The Only GOP Objective

By The Reverend Published: February 8, 2009

What are the Republicans doing with their incessant bitching about Obama's stimulus bill? What is the real point of Republican attempts to obstruct and block the passage of this legislation?

Yes, we can kick around the endless arguments about tax cuts versus government spending, what fiscal responsibility should look like, how money should be spent, if, indeed, we spend it, etc. But what's the larger picture here? What's really going on with this stimulus/recovery dispute?

Why Knee Pad Teevee Can't Be Honest

By The Reverend Published: February 7, 2009

Media Matters documents daily, and to the letter, the Knee Pad Media's atrocities. I recommend to everyone at least a weekly review of their site. It's full of hard hitting and undeniable evidence of the media's bias towards the powerful and against the interests of average Americans.

I've already written about the number of Republicans versus Democrats who have appeared on Knee Pad Teevee during discussions of Obama's stimulus plan. Thinkprogress now has a follow up on it's original chart, and the 2 Republican appearances for every 1 Democrat ratio has continued this week.

Phelps, Pork, WMD's, & The One

By The Reverend Published: February 6, 2009

Tale of Two Deals

By The Reverend Published: February 4, 2009

Governor Blago-Bleep was a very, very bad governor up in Illinois. He wanted to make a deal for President Obama's vacated senate seat. That was a very, very bad thing to try to do. So bad that Patrick Fitzgerald, all puffed up and self-righteous acting, had to intervene and arrest the Illinois governor, cherry picking the most outrageous wiretap gab to read to his press conference audience, in an attempt to convince listeners that Blago was seeking a deal that he had no right to seek.....seeking a deal for a vacated senate seat was, you know, a crime.

Cue yesterday's announcement of Republican senator Judd Gregg as Obama's Commerce secretary.....

Always Feeling Sorry For The Rich

By The Reverend Published: February 1, 2009

My good blog bud, King, over at All Da King's Men, very often writes about government spending, pointing out, correctly, that government is often recklessly wasteful with federal tax dollars. Hard to disagree.

At the same time, my blog buddy often touts the cutting of taxes, especially for business.....the corporate income tax rate is often criticized by King as being too high, stunting any competitive edge and disincentivizing any expansion.
