I don't know why President Obama believes that the NSA's massive and illegal electronic snooping programs are good for America....but he does.
Here he is yesterday defending NSA lawlessness....
"No evidence of abuse has been found involving surveillance programs, but changes are needed in response to legitimate privacy concerns that have been raised," Obama said.
That is like saying that a driver traveling 130 mph in a school zone didn't kill any kids, so, no harm, no speeding ticket....but traveling that fast in a school zone raises safety concerns. That kind of "reasoning" by Obama is pathetic. NSA domestic electronic surveillance programs have yet to be aired before judges because....national security. All attempts to determine the constitutionality of these programs have been stonewalled by the executive branch.
Even though Edward Snowden lifted the curtain a bit on our numerous agencies' overt lawbreaking.....Americans still have no idea what our military and intelligence rulers have been doing in our names...and most likely, never will. Just too dangerous for a free people.
This Obama quote from yesterday's speech could have been uttered by W.....or Dick Nixon.....
"Our nation's defense depends in part on the fidelity of those entrusted with our nation's secrets," Obama said. "If any individual who objects to government policy can take it in their own hands to publicly disclose classified information, then we will never be able to keep our people safe, or conduct foreign policy."
Edward Snowden blew the whistle on the NSA's secretive shredding of the 4th amendment. He did not act as a spy for another country. He did not act like a Wall Street crook who was only doing it for the money. Snowden, especially in light of the mountain of illegality revealed in his document dumps, is a true patriot.
In his speech yesterday, President Obama offered what Julian Assange of WikiLeaks infamy called..... "embarrassing" for a head of state to speak so long and "say almost nothing." "Unfortunately, today, what we see is very few concrete reforms,"
Moving authority to warrantlessly wiretap and store every American's electronic communications from the NSA to the FISA Court only guarantees that Americans will never know what their military-intelligence-dictator rulers are doing behind their backs.
Obama's "reforms" were entirely predictable, they will change nothing and hold no one accountable....other than future whistleblowers, that is. Furthermore, there has been absolutely no evidence that the tens of billions being flushed through this illegal system of state surveillance has kept anyone safe. If there were such evidence, does anyone think for a second that the Spy Ring Leaders wouldn't be trumpeting that evidence from every corruptible corporate media outlet 24/7/365?
That said....let's look at those NSA super-patriotic protectors....you know, our band of modern "Paul Reveres".....and what they would like to do to Edward Snowden....
“In a world where I would not be restricted from killing an American, I personally would go and kill him myself,” a current NSA analyst told BuzzFeed. “A lot of people share this sentiment.”
“I would love to put a bullet in his head,” one Pentagon official, a former special forces officer, said bluntly. “I do not take pleasure in taking another human beings life, having to do it in uniform, but he is single-handedly the greatest traitor in American history.”
“His name is cursed every day over here,” a defense contractor told BuzzFeed, speaking from an overseas intelligence collections base. “Most everyone I talk to says he needs to be tried and hung, forget the trial and just hang him.”
“I think if we had the chance, we would end it very quickly,” he said. “Just casually walking on the streets of Moscow, coming back from buying his groceries. Going back to his flat and he is casually poked by a passerby. He thinks nothing of it at the time starts to feel a little woozy and thinks it’s a parasite from the local water. He goes home very innocently and next thing you know he dies in the shower.”
Power corrupts. Absolute power...corrupts...absolutely.
Nothing short of a full public investigation will prevent the total corruption of our military-intelligence-executive branch dictatorship. Obama's "weak tea" proposals at "reform" will only guarantee further rot.
