Still waiting......for that economic boom promised by the supply siders. You know the guys. They slash taxes for the top one percent and then tell us to wait for those trickle down coins.
But we wait...and wait...
New York Times piece on the economy found here. I want conservatives, especially, to read it.
Here are a few snippets....
Total income listed on tax returns grew every year after World War II, with a single one-year exception, until 2001, making the five-year period of lower average incomes and four years of lower total incomes a new experience for the majority of Americans born since 1945.
So we are experiencing something new....it's not just the working class imagining things.
The fact that average incomes remained lower in 2005 than five years earlier helps explain why so many Americans report feeling economic stress despite overall growth in the economy. Many Americans are also paying a larger share of their health care costs and have had their retirement benefits reduced, adding to their out-of-pocket costs.
Further proof tax cuts do not equate into a better economy for working Americans. Period.
Tony Fratto, a White House spokesman, said the fact that nearly all of the growth in incomes was among those in the upper reaches of the income ladder and that the majority of investment tax breaks went to those making more than $1 million "is not a very interesting story."
Tony, Tony, Tony....I think it tells an extremely "interesting story". The story is the same old....rich get richer, especially when the fix is in, and after the freak all, didn't The Dick say the tax cuts were the rich folks "due" for helping to elect, and re-elect, the most criminal administration in American history. Yeah, he did.
Rudy, The Made For Teevee Terrorist Slayer, Giuliani, as well as other wingnut Republican presidential candidates, have been touting even more tax cuts. Hell, Rudy was asked recently how to pay for infrastructure maintenance, you know, like bridges and stuff, and his answer was, I swear to God, cut taxes.
When it comes to the economic interests of 99% of Americans, and that would be just about all of us, conservative Republicans are very much like Baghdad Bob, interesting and fun to listen to, but never to be taken seriously.
