Obama 3, Plumber Joe 0, McCain 0,.....Waaambulances Called

By The Reverend Published: October 16, 2008

The truck pictured above is NOT Joe, the plumber's, truck.

Update with Joe The Plumber-Katie Couric clip below.

Arizona Senator John McCain must have stopped before the debate last night and bought a $20 "Joe-the-Plumber" scratch-off lottery ticket. He must have,....because he mentioned "Joe-the-Plumber" 21 times in last night's debate with his Democratic opponent, Illinois Senator Barack Obama. Twenty-one times!

Sadly for The Maverick, the "Joe-the-Plumber" scratcher was a total loser. But, hey, if McCain is anything, he's definitely a gambler.....not only at his beloved crap tables in Vegas, but in his political campaign for president as well. Last night, trailing by double digits in the polls, McCain went all in on his wingnut bets.....and wound up crapping out.

All of the network focus group polling data showed that Obama won last night's debate by double digit margins. According to viewers, that would be the third debate in a row where Obama has handily bested McCain.

McCain came off last night as an angry old man. Once again, as in the other debates, the Republican candidate looked upset and even flustered at times. He rudely interrupted Obama on several occasions and often demonstrated why he long ago earned the nickname "McNasty" by his overall smart-ass attitude. At the same time, Barack Obama remained cool, and confident.......not rattled by McCain's boorishness.....systematically responding to CBS's Bob Schieffer with comprehensible answers.

"Joe, the Plumber"

Desperate times call for desperate measures.....and if John McCain's campaign has been anything the last few weeks....it's desperate. So, last night McCain desperately grasped at one of yesterday's wingnut-wire anecdotes. Seems that Obama spoke to a guy named Joe the other day while working the rope line in

Pennsylvania Ohio. Joe, a plumber, thought he was going to stump the Harvard graduate, Obama. Joe tried to make the case that he, a plumber, was disincentivized by Obama's plan to raise tax rates on Americans making over $250K per year. Joe said he was thinking about buying the plumbing company he worked for, but because of Obama's tax plan, he was discouraged from doing so.

Being taxed at a higher rate if he made more than a quarter million a year, Joe suggested, would deter him from buying the plumbing business. Obama's answer was that he wanted regular plumbers to get the breaks so that they too could one day be in the position that Joe was now in thus, "spreading the wealth around".

The "Joe the Plumber" stunt was picked up and spread yesterday, before the debate, by...guess who?...FOX News. In typical whacko wingnut fashion.....FOX, and then later McCain at the debate.....set Joe the Plumber up as some kind of gotcha IED, which, when set off, would destroy Obama's tax-increases-on-the-rich plan as damaging to "small business." In fact, as Obama calmly responded, only 2% of small business owners make more than $250,000 per year. Two percent.

McCain, the Desperate.....brought up "Joe the Plumber" twenty-one times in last night's 90 minute event. Yet another mindless and desperate stunt by the Republican candidate whose campaign, from picking Moosehunter Mother Maverick as his VP to "suspending" his campaign to fly in like Mighty Mouse to save the economic day, has, literally, been driven by stunts.

"Eloquent words"

John McCain spoke sarcastically a couple times last night about Obama's "eloquence" or use of "eloquent words". It came off sounding whiny and bitchy. It was at those times that I did my faithful duty as a citizen and dialed up 1-800-I-Need-A-Waambulance. It was a crucial moment and I didn't want anything bad to happen to McCain. Someone had to help McCain out of his spontaneous combustion bout of the "he's eloquent and I'm not" waa-waa's.

Yes, yes John....we knew you couldn't speak very well in public...and schoolwork and learning were never your cup of...umm....Arizona Tea....but when you waa-waa about your opponent's strength in public speaking and whine about your opponent's ability to clearly explain stuff....then John....you sound and look like a WATB (whiny-ass titty baby). And THAT requires professional help.

There's much more I could say about McCain's poor performance last night. He spoke, oddly, about some veterans group wearing some kind of veterans' hats.....made no sense. All in all though.....considering that McCain brought up Ayers and ACORN in spite of polling demonstrating that would be a losing proposition.....last night's McCain performance was an obvious attempt to target the Republican extreme-right base. To excite the base.

If you're targeting the base with three weeks to go.....you're in a heap of trouble. That kind of trouble cannot be solved by plumbers. Plumbers can deal with a lot of sh*t, no doubt,.....but plunging out a wrecked wingnut political campaign?.....ain't happening. Waaambulances can be helpful at times. That's why I made the call. But even they can't revive a dead campaign.

Update: Listen to Joe the Plumber.....he's simply another FOX news, wingnut ringer....

Second Update: "Joe the Plumber, the star of tonight's debate, may have a very interesting connection to John McCain. In fact, Joe the Plumber (Joe Wurzelbacher) of Cincinnati, Ohio may be related to one Robert Wurzelbacher of Cincinnati, Ohio, who happens to be Charles Keating's son-in-law.

Robert Wurzelbacher was implicated in the Keating 5 scandal, and sentenced to 40 months in prison in 1993.

Wurzelbacher is also a huge Republican donor." Link

Yet another Update:

"An official at Local 50 of the plumber’s union, based in Toledo, said Mr. Wurzelbacher does not hold a license. He also has never served an apprenticeship and does not belong to the union. (The national plumber’s union, the United Association of Plumbers, Steamfitters, and Service Mechanics, endorsed Mr. Obama, it should be noted.)" Link
