The fraud who calls himself Paul Ryan......last night in Tampa....
“You see, even with all the hidden taxes to pay for the health care takeover, even with new taxes on nearly a million small businesses, the planners in Washington still didn’t have enough money. They needed more. They needed hundreds of billions more. So, they just took it all away from Medicare. Seven hundred and sixteen billion dollars, funneled out of Medicare by President Obama. An obligation we have to our parents and grandparents is being sacrificed, all to pay for a new entitlement we didn’t even ask for. The greatest threat to Medicare is Obamacare, and we’re going to stop it.”
Naturally, Ryan is lying.....as TPM's Brian Beutler points out....
Obama did use those Medicare savings — in the form of targeted cuts in payments to providers, not in cuts to benefits to seniors — to help pay for the health care law.
Medicare benefits to seniors were not cut under Obamacare. To claim otherwise is to lie. To those who claim that cutting the for-profit Medicare Advantage plans means Medicare benefits were cut.....
Before Obamacare, the government overpaid the private insurance plans in Medicare Advantage. The Medicare Trustees said those extra payments “resulted in higher Medicare costs overall and higher premiums for all Part B beneficiaries, not just those enrolled in Medicare Advantage plans.” That’s right—everyone paid higher prices so Medicare could give subsidies to private insurance companies.
Costs of Medicare Advantage averaged 17% more than traditional Medicare. The government was subsidizing for-profit, parasitical insurance companies before Obamacare.....forcing all Medicare beneficiaries to pay higher payments.
But Paul Ryan wasn't on stage last night in Tampa to tell the truth. Contrary to the many cottage-industry myths which have sprouted up around Mr. Ryan.......he is not a policy wonk, a numbers man, or an honest broker when it comes to fiscal matters. He is a fraud. A big mouthed, deficit hawk-talking.....deficit expander. That's how Ryan voted during the Bush years. He voted to double the deficit in 8 years of Bush. Ryan voted for each and every deficit and debt expanding piece of legislation George W. Bush wanted passed.
He was on stage last night in Tampa to feed the bitter conservative base another blood dripping piece of red meat to gnaw on. Red meat marinated in Foxian doublespeak and El Rushbo Bullpucky-Barbeque sauce. Paul Ryan is a fraud.....and the sooner American voters understand that....the sooner they'll understand the end game of guys like Ryan and Romney....
Ryan’s budget calls for using them (Medicare cuts to providers) to finance tax cuts for wealthy Americans, and deficit reduction. But by now calling to restore that spending commitment to Medicare, Ryan and Romney are pledging to hasten Medicare’s insolvency by many years.
Ryan can't even keep his lies straight. First he was going to take the "savings" from couponizing and privatizing Medicare and give already-filthy rich one percenters another well-deserved tax cut. Ryan is quaint that way. Burdening future seniors with more Medicare costs while using the "savings" to reward people like his running mate Mitt, and, of course, his rich self.
But then, Ryan, in a clustermess of confusion seasoned with just a scosh of comedy.....decided that he and Mitt would restore those "savings" to Medicare that Obama allegedly cut.....thus sending Medicare into fiscal trouble in the next 2 years. Obamacare had pushed a Medicare fiscal crisis off for another 8 years by cutting money to providers, not beneficiaries.
Ryan lies about the $700+ billion cut from providers in Medicare in the Obamacare health plan, saying that those cuts were to benefits. That is a lie. The cuts were to providers. Then, Ryan turned around and said he would restore those cuts to providers....which would cause Medicare to fall short of funds much sooner than under Obamacare.....thus causing Medicare to reach fiscal trouble....sooner. That's what passes as Serious Policy Wonkishness in the Village these days.
Of course, the Ryan Budget would bring Medicare to an end as we have known it....turning the defined benefit program into a defined subsidy program....a government coupon program whose coupon values would cause future retirees to pay $6000 more out-of-pocket for the same Medicare benefits seniors enjoy today.
Go here to read the other Ryan lies from his speech in Tampa last night. The path of the R&R train is now clear.....lie without ceasing right up to November.
