Yesterday, Ted Cruz....the Republican senator who had vowed to prevent a closure vote to proceed to debate and a vote on the House continuing funding bill......voted along with the other 99 senators to.....proceed to debate and vote on the House CR. The vote was 100-0 to proceed to debate.
Ted Cruz, Mike Lee, Marco Rubio, Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Erick Erickson and a host of backbench, far-right conservatives had huffed and puffed and threatened for two months to blow the entire government-funding house down if the Che-inspired ACA was not defunded in the Senate.
Even though these rabble-rousing, bigmouthed, long-winded, deception artists raised a lot of money from duped conservative voters, even though these charlatans racked up extra face and voice time on national media.....in the end, the entire two-month campaign was only a hoax.
Republicans knew two months ago that they couldn't deliver a government shutdown because they didn't have the votes. Yesterday, Ted Cruz and the rest of the usual-confederate-suspects acknowledged the hoax when they voted along with every other senator to bring the House CR to the floor of the Senate.
Ted Cruz for GOP presidential candidate in 2016? Liberals can only hope.
Now that the Barnum & Bailey GOP House & Senate Train has surrendered on the Continuing Resolution, the Circus Clowns have rushed over to the Big Tent Debt Ceiling Exhibit to entertain those previously fooled by the Cruz Clown Contingency.

Let me get this straight. Having just had their hineys embarrassingly handed to them, House Republicans now plan to default on the national debt if congressional Democrats and Obama don't agree to hurt the sick, children, the poor, the elderly and the uninsured, repeal clean air and clean water regulations, cut taxes further for the rich and make sure that Big Banksters can continue stealing and cheating without any bothersome government oversight.
Having witnessed the predictable massive-fail of the disinformers yesterday in the Senate, all I can say to Republicans and their fans is...'good luck with that.' With a full Senate now experienced in kicking in the teeth of AM radio conservatives on the continuing funding bill, how likely will the Senate be to vote in favor of new ransom note demands from TeaHouse Warriors as a prerequisite to lifting the debt ceiling? Zero, or none?
As I've related many times before, the extreme policies of House Republicans and Senate Large-Mouthed Asses are very unpopular. That is why Republicans find it difficult to compete in presidential election years. Because that is the case, pitifully, Republicans must constantly appeal to their rabid base for fear that they, too, will flee the slowly-dyng party.
That's exactly what Ted Cruz was doing in his totally-phony fake-filibuster these past few days. Cruz knew for certain he would lose yesterday's Senate vote to proceed. He didn't care.....because he was trying to raise presidential campaign money from, who else?, the AM-radio listening, take-back-our-country, base voters.
Boehner and Cantor are now following suit. House GOP posers already know that Obama will veto anything other than a clean debt limit increase bill. They also know that there are not enough votes in either chamber to override an Obama veto.
Why, then, lay out a long list of impossible-to-pass demands?
To "feed" the excitable conservative base voters with the stuff they want to hear, to assure oligarchs House Republicans have their back, and to keep those duped-citizen campaign checks coming.
