The Senate voted 72-25 to condemn the MoveOn ad from last week's NY Times.
MoveOn chief Eli Pariser hits back at the Senate with this:
"No wonder public approval of Congress is tanking. They're so out of touch with reality that they can find time to condemn an ad but they can't do what most Americans want -- vote to end this war." Link
I counted 23 Democrats, if you include Lieberman, voting with Republicans to condemn something guaranteed by the First Amendment. This on the heels of Democrats assisting the new granting of intergalactic spy powers to the new office of American King.
I don't believe it can even be done anymore. Save the nation, I mean. Condemning something that is Constitutionally guaranteed to be a right, and at the same time, NOT condemning but endorsing legalizing something the Constitution specifically condemns. All this is completely expected from the anti-American Republicans...... but 23 Democratic turncoats, as well?
To me, this is positive proof our military will be manning those big Iraqi bases for, at the very least, a generation. Iraq will become part of the permanent defense department budget and we'll have monthly American soldier deaths and woundings for as far as the eye can see.
23 Democrats is not quite half but too close to it for my liking. Not only is the challenge to oust more anti-American Republican senators but also to oust weak Democrats, as well.
Monumental task, which, now that Bush has fusterclucked so much stuff inside and outside of the country, I just can't see getting done.
Kind of sad, really.
