Reforming The Truth

By The Reverend Published: September 10, 2008

I confess. I must have fallen victim to the same terrible disease Mother Maverick suggested Barack Obama had. What terrible disease? The disease of not "getting it."

At first, the idea of Republicans, John McCain and Sarah Palin, touting their candidacies as "change agents" or "reformers" struck me as laughable, ridiculous. I have since been enlightened.

Now I "get it".

What I hadn't "got" until now is the nature, the very definition, of what McCain-Palin consider to be change and reform.

When McCain-Palin speak of reform and change, what they mean is....changing and reforming truth. No wonder the GOP excitement level is so high right now.

Truth and evidence, and the studious research to uncover them, have been enemies of America for quite awhile. Consider the pesky trouble created for our current Leaders by those most cruel enemies of America. Fact and truth finders armed with their IED's containing explosive facts about global warming, stem cell research, Iraqi threats, FEMA, abstinence only results, our strong economy and so forth, for the sake of the nation, had to be warred against. The only way to counter those insurgent truth throwers was to reform the enemies most deadly weapon....truth itself. We should all be grateful that Bush and Cheney have held their own in their vigilant combat against this vicious and ruthless enemy.

Once a person "gets" this one significant and brilliant point....then McCain and Palin's trumpeting of reform and change becomes a...umm....no-brainer.

See...I had bought into the propaganda of truth when I first heard Palin repeat so many, what I considered then to be, lies about troopergate, the Bridge, earmarks, jet on E-Bay, etc. Once I "got" it, however, I could understand that Palin's words were not lies at all...instead....they were the valiant efforts of a true patriot defending our nation from terrorist truth in need of reform. Makes all the difference in the world when looked at from that perspective.

Now I sympathize with John McCain's POW-fueled fight against the dangerous-to-our-nation truth that he, reformer Maverick, has supported George W. Bush's leadership 90% of the time over the last 8 years and would, reciting all the terrorist facts, be simply "more of the same", if elected president. Dropping those truth bombs all over McCain's patriotic rhetoric didn't even make him blink one time, or even respond. This, in itself, proves that McCain is ready for Day One. Our nation's enemy of enemies, truth, will never be able to gain a foothold here in America.....not with McCain as president. Victory over truth is guaranteed with the ex-POW promising to go to the "gates of hell" to defeat our enemies.

McCain and Palin are giving us a preview of coming attractions by fighting against the enemy, truth, before they take office. They are just so energetic about this battle, aren't they? They surely must awake with only one thought each day, 'how can we battle the nation's enemy, truth, again today.' Warriors like this are difficult to find.

What follows is just one example of the terrible destruction inflicted by our nation's most formidable enemy, truth coupled with evidence. Parental guidance is suggested, the depiction that follows is graphic and gruesome.

The conservative writer Andrew Sullivan used to "get it." He used to enthusiastically support the modern Republican Party and it's candidates. But those gosh-darned enemies, truth and empirical evidence, have convinced Sullivan otherwise. Such crippling wounds have been left on Sullivan by truth's sneaky ways that he now writes like this....

"The one thing I always thought I knew about him (McCain) is that he is a decent and honest person."

"So far, he has let us all down. My guess is he will continue to do so. And that decision, for my part, ends whatever respect I once had for him. On core moral issues, where this man knew what the right thing was, and had to pick between good and evil, he chose evil."

"He capitulated and enshrined torture as the policy of the United States... He gave the war criminals in the White House retroactive immunity against the prosecution they so richly deserve. The enormity of this moral betrayal, this betrayal of his country's honor, has yet to sink in. But for my part, it now makes much more sense. He is not the man I thought he was."

"In the end, his final concern is not national security. No one who cares about national security would pick as vice-president someone who knows nothing about it as his replacement. No one who cares about this country's safety would gamble the security of the world on a total unknown because she polled well with the Christianist base." Link

How can a nation remain safe so long as terrorist truth using IED evidence can take such a toll right here at home? Have you ever seen such a mangled-up casuality as Sullivan? Sullivan once "got it", but because of the enemy's wily and dastardly actions, sadly, Andrew Sullivan no longer "gets it."

So, yes, I "get it" now. The most dangerous enemy America faces in the 21st century is truth equipped with an IED empirical evidence body belt. McCain and Palin will be just the reformers America needs to rid our proud nation of such a dangerous enemy. Such reformers are the only authentic and patriotic warriors left in America, who, indeed, deserve our deference.
