RNC Chair....."No Reason To Trust GOP"

By The Reverend Published: February 15, 2009

Unfortunately for Republican voters, the RNC voted to place Michael Steele at the helm of the Republican Party. Steele is quite a character. To be fair, it did take 6 ballots before Republican "leaders" decided to give Steele enough votes to become chairman. The Republican "leaders", it would seem, were not really sold on Mr. Steele.

So, how's Michael Steele doing?

Here we have Steele's response to House Republicans voting in lockstep against an economic stimulus/recovery bill favored by a majority of Americans....

"Let me start by saying, the goose egg that you laid on the president’s desk was just beautiful. Absolutely beautiful...... But I thought it was very, very important that you sent a signal, and you sent it loudly and very clearly, that this party, that the leadership of this caucus, will stand first and foremost with the American people. You made it very clear that in order to grow through this recession, that you would not redistribute the wealth of the people of this nation."

I suppose the corollary to Mr. Steele's "insight" would go like this...."redistributing the wealth of the people", as the Bush GOP did in rewarding the wealthy, leads to recession.

Mr. Goose Egg, the Republican Party "Leader", goes on to stand firm on the side of ignorance and stupidity....

Steele couldn’t praise them enough, and at times, he was at a loss for words. “You and I know that in the history of mankind and womankind, government—federal, state or local—has never created one job,” he said. “It’s destroyed a lot of them.”

Does ANYONE believe such nonsense?

Extra special dumbness,(denying reality) and a continuation of the culture of criminality so embedded of late in the Republican apparently the "new" direction Mr. RNC Chair wants to take the GOP....

Also, for reasons I’m less clear about, Iran-Contra alum Oliver North was in the room with the House Republicans, and Steele singled him out for praise. Link

More exceptional brilliance from Steele on America's most compelling concern

STEELE: Well, the difference -- the distinction is this. If a government -- if you've got a government contract that is a fixed period of time, it goes away. The work may go away. That's -- there's no guarantee that that -- that there's going to be more work when you're done in that job.

STEPHANOPOULOS: Yes, but we've seen millions and millions of jobs going away in the private sector just in the last year.

STEELE: But they come -- yes, they -- and they come back, though, George. That's the point. When they go -- they've gone away before, and they come back. Link

Say, like, all those tens of thousands of manufacturing jobs the U.S. used to have in the private sector? Why haven't "they come back", if indeed, Steele isn't a moron?

Denying reality is not a new way forward, really, for the GOP. Denying reality would be considered....umm...more of the same. But Steele marches on...

The Obama-backed stimulus, he said, "is just a wish list from a lot of people who have been on the sidelines for years.. to get a little bling, bling."

Steele, before ducking into an elevator on on the second floor of the Capitol: "I thought it was very, very interesting. It looks like he's trying to very hard to shore up support from Democrats" because "he's upside-down" in the polls. Link

Yeah, both conservative and liberal economists agree that creating jobs and providing a safety net through government spending, in the situation we're in, should be the strategy. But not Steele. To him, government spending is all for "bling" for the ethnics....

Obama has a 60+% approval rating from the American people. I suppose if one stood on one's head, you know, "upside down", Obama's approval numbers would seem smaller, somehow.....

The best of the new RNC chairman, or worst as the case may demand, however, is seen in the wingnut session Steele had with Glenn Beck recently....

Beck: It's not really easy to be, you know, the pariah in your office, to be the hatemonger racist that wants to steal, you know, starve everybody's children and just hates anybody who is different. We actually took a lot of crap for a long time, and then you guys betrayed us. Why we would we even think twice of pulling a lever again? Fool me once, shame on me, fool me twice -- oh my God!

Steele: No, Glenn, look, I'm not going to soft-pedal this with you,...The reality of it is you are absolutely right. You have absolutely no reason -- none -- to trust our word or our actions at this point.

I gotta' say.....What a sad state of affairs when wingnut teevee personalities who "take a lot of crap" for supporting a political party known as, "the hatemonger racist that wants to steal, you know, starve everybody's children and just hates anybody who is different. We actually took a lot of crap for a long time, and then you guys betrayed us."

I mean, Jesus.

But then, to complete the three ring circus act.....Steele tells Beck, and the world, that there's "no reason, none, to trust our word or our actions at this point."

Don't worry Mike.....we don't.
