On September 11, 2008....National Review writer Kathleen Parker wrote this about the choice of Sarah Palin as McCain's running mate....
McCain can hardly wipe the grin off his face. He gambled and won — Big Time. His biggest score has been among white women, who have abandoned the Obama camp and hauled their teepees over to the McCain reservation. Link

September 26, 2008....National Review's Parker again....this time doing a 180...
As we’ve seen and heard more from John McCain’s running mate, it is increasingly clear that Palin is a problem. Quick study or not, she doesn’t know enough about economics and foreign policy to make Americans comfortable with a President Palin should conditions warrant her promotion.
Palin’s recent interviews with Charles Gibson, Sean Hannity, and now Katie Couric have all revealed an attractive, earnest, confident candidate. Who Is Clearly Out Of Her League.
If BS were currency, Palin could bail out Wall Street herself.
Only Palin can save McCain, her party, and the country she loves. She can bow out for personal reasons, perhaps because she wants to spend more time with her newborn. No one would criticize a mother who puts her family first.

September 5th, 2008...National Review writer Kathryn Jean Lopez says this about Sarah Palin....
Doubt and uncertainty grew. But then she spoke. Not only did she demonstrate a depth of moral character, but she also showed an adeptness on policy, both foreign and domestic. Link
September 26, 2008....National Review's Lopez again....playing a different tune...
I’m not where my friend Kathleen Parker is — wanting her to step aside to spend more time with her family and Alaska — but that’s not a crazy suggestion. She's right to say that something’s gotta change.
(Mitt’s still available. Someone in Washington who can actually run a business and knows something about the economy will come in handy once the federal government owns the U.S. banking system.) Link
Everyone makes mistakes. It's all part of being human. Notice, however, the about face these two very conservative female writers made in such a short two week period.
The question is.....why such a reversal in just two weeks? The answer, of course, can be found in the extremely limited teevee interview time Sarah Palin has had to endure. Even with McCain's campaign doing everything possible to keep Palin away from answering questions....the few she has been allowed to answer have been revealing. As Parker and Lopez, not to be confused with progressives, now suggest....Sarah Palin is basically clueless and is floundering around, embarassingly, every time she tries to answer even the simplest of questions.
Parker and Lopez can thank John McCain, hip-shooter, maverick, gambler....for their current disappointment. In John McCain's first act as an executive...picking a running mate....he rolled the dice.....not Lieberman, not Ridge...instead, the Rovian element's choice, Sarah Palin. She would be such a big hit with the extremist-right evangelicals....and she is. Problem is....when it comes to preparation on national and international issues....she's a box of rocks.....good looking box of rocks, no doubt, but alas...only rocks.
I bring this all up because this Thursday is the vice-presidential debate between the box of rocks and Joe Biden. Based on what we've witnessed thus far in tightly controlled Palin media moments.....how do you think she's going to do? Depending on the questions, I suppose, Sarah Palin may be able to stumble her way through this debate. More likely, I think, she will show Americans that, indeed, she should have never been chosen because she's simply not ready for prime time.
McCain will never ask Palin to step down and Palin will never offer to resign....so what's a failed Republican Party to do?
That Obama landslide I've predicted is still on the table.
Is this the next diversionary, 'Entertainment Tonight', McCain campaign tactic....?
In an election campaign notable for its surprises, Sarah Palin, the Republican vice- presidential candidate, may be about to spring a new one -- the wedding of her pregnant teenage daughter to her ice-hockey-playing fiancé before the November 4 election.
Inside John McCain's campaign the expectation is growing that there will be a popularity boosting pre-election wedding in Alaska between Bristol Palin, 17, and Levi Johnston, 18, her schoolmate and father of her baby. "It would be fantastic," said a McCain insider. "You would have every TV camera there. The entire country would be watching. It would shut down the race for a week." Link
"shutting down the race for a week".....that's amazing, don't you think? A presidential campaign longing for a shutdown of the campaign, even if only for a week. Sound like a confident campaign to you?
Levi AND The First Dude, dressed in tuxedos, riding in on snowmobiles to distract American voters away from serious national and international issues.....even if only for a week.
McCain is expected to have a front-row seat at Bristol’s wedding and to benefit from the outpouring of goodwill that it could bring. “What’s the downside?” a source inside the McCain campaign said. “It would be wonderful. I don’t know that there has ever been a pre-election wedding before.”
