Newt's Pearl Harbor Attack

By The Reverend Published: December 27, 2011

So, I open my Akron Beacon Journal this morning to find an article entitled, "Gingrich gains anti-Romney Ohioans" AP writer, Dan Sewell. The author goes deep into the heart of Ohio RepulicanLand....West Chester...asking a few Republican voters who they will be voting for in the GOP presidential primary to be held in Ohio in March. The featured interviewees, some guy who owns a bar, and a couple standing on their back deck, answer with the name, Newt Gingrich.

Why Newt?

The Mighty TEAs Strikeout

By The Reverend Published: December 22, 2011

TEAs went to the polls in 2010 licking their chops in the hopes of sticking it to the dreadful Kenyan socialist....the guy 53% of Americans voted in as president two short years earlier. TEAs were going to retake their country from the slavery of progressivism and set America free from its chains of socialistic bondage. Elected House TEAs actually regarded themselves as 'the ones we've been waiting for'.....the ones who would make Droopy McConnell's top GOP priority, a one term Obama, a rousing reality.

By god, these new House 'patriots', patriots such as have never been witnessed in all of American history, would show the Democratic communists how to create jobs, how to move and shake, how to lead us out of the deep recession the previous GOP government had led us into. TEA Republicans were going to put a wayward country back on track. And, most importantly, TEAs were not going to be weak-kneed and partially-pink compromisers with the enemy Democrats. There's no RINO in TEA.

What Ron Paul "Doesn't See"

Boehner's TEA House

By The Reverend Published: December 19, 2011

Elections matter. Nowhere has that been more apparent than in the House that Boehner built. The House of Tea. While discouraged progressives and moderates stayed home November, 2010....the TEAs rallied in hatred of all things Democratic, all things Obama...and took back the House of Representatives. The TEAs did it fair and square. They deserve a lot of credit for their enthusiasm and steadfastness. TEAs worked hard...and it paid off. Republicans regained the majority in the House.

However, as many progressives predicted following the election, House Republicans had absolutely nothing to offer the nation other than gridlock. The only policy objective from the right has been the goal to make Obama a one term president.

Why Iraq?

By The Reverend Published: December 16, 2011

Many times I've heard Village spokespeople rhetorically ask...why did we go into Iraq? Why the Iraq war? These Village talking heads know the answer to that question, but in typical Village fashion, cannot explain it to the unwashed masses because then people like Bill Kristol, Don Rumsfeld, Dick Cheney, Paul Wolfowitz, Richard Perle and the rest of the PNAC (Project for the New American Century) gang....all respected Villagers themselves...would be embarrassed, put on the spot, perhaps even arrested. Village members simply can't be treated that way.

So Village media personnel act as if the reason the U.S. attacked the non-threatening nation of Iraq is still a mystery....something better left to future historians. Sure, Villagers will tell us that WMD were not found there, lots of people died, Saddam was killed and so forth....but corporate media, to this very day, still refuses to explain the real reason why we invaded Iraq.

Sympathy For Devils

By The Reverend Published: December 15, 2011

In 1971, President Richard Nixon ordered his White House thugs to go after Daniel Ellsberg for making public the Pentagon Papers. The Papers were quite an embarrassment to Nixon's White House. Nixon responded by beginning a campaign "against further leaks and against Ellsberg personally." Part of that campaign we know now as the Watergate burglary. Watergate eventually led to President Nixon's resignation.

Today, I feel sympathy for Nixon. Not because he wasn't a deeply disturbed and lawless Republican President...he was....but because, if he were president today, Nixon would have had the liberty to simply 'disappear' Daniel Ellsberg. Watergate would have never been necessary, and Nixon could have finished out his second term without having to resign in humiliation.

Newt's Proposal To Help The Haves

By The Reverend Published: December 14, 2011

Heading into the final stretch, it looks like conservative primary voters are settling on Newton Gingrich as their GOP presidential candidate. Currently, even 47% of the TEAs are supportive of a Gingrich run for president.

This is interesting to me because the TEA Party has always claimed that the deficit and the national debt are their primary concerns. The TEA doctrine, if there actually is such an animal, seems to be that government is carrying too much debt, destructive debt, bankrupting debt.....and that the yearly federal budget must be brought into balance without deficits. As I've stated many times, this was not conservative doctrine during the Bush years when Republicans controlled Washington 6 out of 8 years in the 00's,....but, instead, only became essential doctrine the moment Democrats took control of Congress and the White House.

What "We've Invented": Serious GOP Candidates

By The Reverend Published: December 12, 2011

Here's the transcript from ABC's Saturday night GOP primary debate.

The Village media....always working to inform it's readers about what they really need to know....are spinning Romney's $10,000 bet offer to Rick Perry over something Mitt said or did not say in his book, as something of great profundity that came out of Saturday night's debate. I find little-to-no significance in that exchange....but I did find some other interesting tidbits.

Making Seniors Anxious

By The Reverend Published: December 10, 2011

My 86 year old mother's secondary health coverage, a benefit from my father's lifetime of union membership, is changing next year. The company my father used to work for is no longer handling the health care directly....and instead, they, as many many other companies have done, brokered the coverage out to others.

For years, my mother has had secondary coverage for what Medicare does not pay well as prescription drug coverage. So, the "new" health insurance broker sent her a booklet a while back which details the many available plans my mother can choose from. It is up to her to plumb the depths of complexity in the dozens and dozens of different "plans" and, like choosing which beans to buy at the grocery store, come up with the best consumer choice for her secondary health insurance needs.

Race-Baiter Gingrich Takes Lead

By The Reverend Published: December 8, 2011

Newt Gingrich does not want to become the GOP nominee against President Obama next November. He doesn't. And I'm still betting that he won't be, despite his bust-out in recent GOP polling. Gingrich, as I mentioned recently, is a rhetorical jihadist. He always has been one. And that's exactly why he currently leads among the motley GOP candidates.

Quite frankly, I think that the GOP base would rather see Gingrich lose badly against Obama next fall...just so long as Newt drops a sufficient number of we-hate-the black-Democratic-President-and-all-things-progressive, jihad bombs, in the process of losing. The conservative base can't rely on Mitt Romney to carry out it's rhetorical terrorism.....Mitt is just too nice of a guy. But Newt? He's never been a nice guy...ever.

The Israelification Of America

By The Reverend Published: December 5, 2011

According to the U.S. Senate in a vote of 93-7....the U.S. president has the power to declare any U.S. citizen an "enemy of the state", order the indefinite detention of that U.S. citizen, order the assassination of that U.S. citizen, or place that U.S. citizen in Guantanamo to never be heard from again.
All of these new found presidential powers violate the 5th and 6th amendments.....

Gitmo Now For U.S. Citizens

By The Reverend Published: December 2, 2011

Agreement between congressional Republicans and Democrats, authentic bipartisanship, is rarely witnessed today. But there is one part of U.S. policy where the D's and the R's completely agree. Endless war and indefinite detention...even of U.S citizens. Yesterday the Senate passed a $662 billion defense bill 93-7. Nothing passes the Senate by such a wide margin any more. The Senate action is a clear illustration of what our Leadership holds dear. Unquestioned bipartisan approval to fund America's Worldwide Empire.....and to continue, indefinitely, our worldwide "war" against a tactic.

American Leadership stands united on one thing and one thing only....waging endless war against radicalized Islam. "The Long War." A doubling of defense spending has not been enough to bring the unsophisticated and stateless extremists to justice. Ten years of killing, ten years of bombing, ten years of expanding the Empire into many middle eastern nations has not been enough for our Leaders. We must press on to finally destroy the tactic of killing one's self in order to kill and terrify others. An accomplishment that is entirely impossible to attain.

Gingrich: Rhetorical Jihadist

By The Reverend Published: December 1, 2011

The blogger Digby has one of the keenest keyboards in the progressive blogosphere. There are only a few bloggers I read every day....Atrios at EschatonBlog, Glenn Greenwald at Salon, and Digby at Hullabaloo. I highly recommend these three sites to any readers who can stand to have their viewpoints challenged.

This week, Digby posted a blog explaining why it is that the Republican primary spectacle has least for settle on Mr. Newt Gingrich as the frontrunner. In so doing, Digby reminds readers what really energizes the self-radicalized, American right in the 21st century.
