Perhaps one of the greatest conservative minds today....Charles Krauthammer of Fox News and the Washington Post.....
Environmental chic has driven us out there. As production from the shallower Gulf of Mexico wells declines, we go deep (1,000 feet and more) and ultra deep (5,000 feet and more), in part because environmentalists have succeeded in rendering the Pacific and nearly all the Atlantic coast off-limits to oil production.
Apparently, BP didn't drill where they drilled in the Gulf because.....umm....a whole bunch of oil was down there. BP drilled one mile underwater in the Gulf because environmentalists....well, actually, "environmental chic".....forced BP, well not BP, us, to drill there.
You see, we (the people) were forced to drill miles underwater because "big gub'mint" environmentalists (and their "chic") forced us to do so.
Krauthammer implies that BP didn't really want to drill one mile under the Gulf waters....what they wanted to do was drill in the government protected Arctic wilderness.....but we the people, all intoxicated with our own "environmental chic", made BP drill in high-risk waters instead.
Big Gub'mint EPA lovers, then, created the conditions for the BP oil disaster.....and those environmentally chic and big gub'mint loving folks are ultimately responsible for the disaster.
See why Charles Krauthammer is considered to have one of the greatest conservative minds?
Sister Sarah of the Perpetual Drillers concurs.....
"Xtreme Greenies: see now why we push 'drill, baby, drill' of known reserves & promising finds in safe onshore places like ANWR? Now do you get it?"
I'm not sure whether "Xtreme Greenies" is a new clothing line for, you know, the "environmentalist chic" crowd.....but at this point, as a confused Reverend, my answer to the 1/2 term governor who represents "real Americans" is.....no, Sister Sarah.....I don't get it. I think Charles Krauthammer does, though.
What I remember is that Sister Sarah was FOR offshore drilling....
"... we will safely drill for the billions of barrels of oil that we have underground, including off-shore."
"And whether Joe Biden approves it or not, we will develop clean coal technology and we will safely drill for the billions of barrels of oil that are warehoused underground, including our offshore sources. We will drill here and drill now."
VAN SUSTEREN: .... Shouldn't we at least put a halt on all offshore drilling because if they did it here on this particular rig, what would in any way give us confidence on any other rig?
PALIN: No, we are too reliant on oil.
VAN SUSTEREN: So we just keep drilling?
PALIN: We have to keep drilling.
VAN SUSTEREN: In the meantime, though, until we get to the bottom of it, you think we should continue to go full speed ahead with the offshore drilling?
The de facto Leader of the conservative movement, the mob don of the Republican Party, Rush Limbaugh.
May 21, 2010...
"When do we ask the Sierra Club to pick up the tab for this leak? Everybody is focused on BP and Halliburton and TransOcean. The Greeniacs have been driving our oil producers off the land...from offhsore to way offshore, to way, way offshore. From low risk, to high risk, to higher risk. We're now forced to drill one mile (under water)."
There we have it. 3 of the most popular conservative brandnames agree.
BP didn't drill one mile under the Gulf waters because they knew there was a motherlode of profitable oil there. They did so because Big Gub'mint loving, environmentally chic, haters of Big Oil forced BP to drill under water. And not just under water, mind you, but way out under the deepest of waters. In this conservative consensus, BP ( I mean we) wouldn't even be drilling under water if it was up to BP (I mean, us). What we really wanted was to drill in ANWR. Or something.
Therefore, the disastrous spill is to be blamed on those thuggish environmentalist groups who were powerful enough to force BP.....kicking and screaming.....to drill in dangerous places where they really didn't want to drill.
One thing about today's brandname conservative leaders.....they are really sensible.
