Shock And Awe As Political Policy

By The Reverend Published: August 6, 2007

Newsweek reports....

The controversy over President Bush's warrantless surveillance program took another surprise turn last week when a team of FBI agents, armed with a classified search warrant, raided the suburban Washington home of a former Justice Department lawyer....

...two legal sources who asked not to be identified talking about an ongoing case told NEWSWEEK the raid was related to a Justice criminal probe into who leaked details of the warrantless eavesdropping program to the news media.Source

Nothing like a little intimidation to scare Congressional members considering voting against Bush as well as any "journalists" who were considering submitting future articles with implications possibly exposing any more White House....ummm....irregularities.

When the NY Times finally(after holding it a year) printed the story about Bush's illegal wiretapping of Americans without warrants, Mr. Fix-It Gonzales himself said this....

"This is really hurting national security; this has really hurt our country."Link

When Alberto said this I can recall thinking, "now, what in the hell is he talking about?"....but then again....I think that every time Alberto raises his right hand and swears to tell the truth. Crazy Reverend!

Blog readers you think Osama and his brand of jihadist guys THINKS all their communications are being monitored by the U.S.? Take a wild guess. And if the extremists already THINK we're listening in on everything, how is it that the NY Times story revealing that fact could "hurt the country"? It's ridiculous on it's face.

Another truth is that neo-conservative chickenhawks really enjoy demonstrations of force. You remember "Shock and Awe", right? We taught those Iraqis a lesson, right? Showed them we were not pussyfooting around.

Joe and Valerie Wilson learned how this administration defaults to "shock and awe" payback policies whenever the unvarnished truth is set forward.

The same is true with the raiding of Thomas Tamm's house last week. A display of force. That stuff scares the bejesus out of weak-kneed Congressional members and lapdog MSM "reporters".

It really doesn't matter much that the so-called leaked information is true. It doesn't matter if revelations of White House orchestrated criminal violations of law are exposed. It doesn't matter that these revelations do not damage the country's national security. All that matters is that anything revealed which makes the Leader appear lawless....cannot be allowed to stand.

And if by chance something damaging to the White House does make it to the surface, an authoritarian demonstration of force is never far behind.

There is no policy, it's all politics. And the overarching policy of those politics is always "Shock and Awe". That's how thugs operate.
