More Bloodletting Will Save The Patient This Time
So far, here in the U.S., the Obama administration has been able to successfully stall the implementation of deep government spending cuts in the midst of America's worst financial downturn in 70 years. Despite the never-ending whining coming from conservatives who believe in the doctrine of "expansionary austerity", (an oxymoron if ever there were one), U.S. leaders have been able to fend off the hysterical cries from Republicans and their rich constituents. The expansionary austerity believers would like to take the downturn's opportunity to slash and burn the safety net in America.
That is why for 2 straight years now all we have heard from media, Tea Partiers, Republicans, moderate Democrats and the pimps for corporate interests.....is how desperately we need to slash spending on programs for children, the poor, the elderly and the vulnerable. That is why Republicans have worked so desperately to smash and kill unions and privatize Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security. They are taking a political shot during one of our most vulnerable economic times.

Insane Train Rolls On
There were many on the conservative side who berated President Obama when he refused to make public his long form birth certificate from Hawaii. Obama, from the beginning, had made his short form Hawaiian birth certificate public for all to see. But Obama is black and has a funny name for a U.S. politician...and he calls himself a Democrat....so the short form birth certificate was not enough for those on the right who really, really didn't want Obama elected president.
The short form birth certificate is all the state of Hawaii requires for legal transactions, etc....but not enough for those in America who are not particularly fond of minorities and who really, really, dislike the Democratic Party. Many on the right claimed that they didn't actually believe Obama was an illegal immigrant...a total imposter. But they argued that it was up to Obama to "clear the air"....even though no other president has ever had to produce a birth certificate, and even though newspaper announcements of Obama's Hawaiian birth were available to all who doubted his citizenship.

Lying To Protect The Rich

Keeping The Press Safe
It should be transparent to anyone who has been paying attention....but I'll say it anyway.... the United States is descending further into an authoritarian militarized country which features separate and distinct forms of justice for the haves...and the have-nots.
The haves....have unfettered and unquestioned rights. Their money is, in actuality, free speech. Their corporations pay cost-of-doing-business fines but are never held accountable and never admit to doing anything wrong....ever. Even though what the haves pay elected officials to do for them does not reflect the will of the American people, compromised elected officials do their utmost, anyway, to fulfill the wishes of the haves. The haves coax the politicians that work for them to pass more legislation which will further enrich them.

Thanksgiving Courage-In-A-Can
California...for college campus police, pepper spray must be considered "courage in a can." This paunchy University of California at Davis campus cop likes his "courage in a can" as can be seen in the casualness by which he strolls along spraying the eyes of non-violent American protesters. He's very brave because he has his courage right there in his hand. Later, these college campus rent-a-cops pulled the protesters apart and sprayed some more "courage" down the throats of a couple protesters. So brave,....these out-of-shape, courage-in-a-can wielders. So quick to grab for their cans of courage.

How The Village Rolls
One of the reasons I started blogging was because of what I saw, and still see, as a failure by the main media to tell Americans the truth about...well...basically anything. Specifically, I was motivated by corporate media's collusion with the Bush White House in the run up to attacking the sovereign and non-threatening-to-the-U.S. nation of Iraq.
This U.S. media problem is not insignificant. Hundreds of thousands of dead people and a trillion dollar debt is what came from corporate media's active participation helping the Bush administration advance it's unscrupulous cause to attack a country rich in oil, but absent al-Qaeda.

200 To 1
200 to 1. That was the final offer to Democrats from Republican members of the Super Committee. $200 in spending cuts for every $1 in new revenues. Take it or leave it.
As of this morning....everyone is leaving it.

The 60's-70's...And Now
I haven't commented much on Occupy Wall Street because I didn't have much of anything to say about it.
There were a lot of protests during the 1960's and 1970's. Many were anti-Vietnam War protests. Many, many people turned out for those protests. But those protests didn't end the war, just like the huge anti-Iraq war protests in 2002 and 2003 didn't prevent the Iraq War from being waged. Yes, over time, more and more Americans became weary of the Vietnam disgrace and eventually, politicians were pressured to bring it to an end. But street protesting against the Vietnam War didn't force our Leaders to change course. Because Leaders minds were already made up.

Post-Shame
The thing about Michele Bachmann is that she leads the TEA Party caucus in the U.S. House of Representatives. While everything Mrs. Bachmann says, naturally, cannot be automatically attributed to TEA Partiers everywhere, she does represent TEA Partiers in her House position. And proudly so.
In yet another GOP debate Saturday evening.....that I did not watch....TEA Party Michelle took it to the outer limits...

The No Self Awareness Debate
There they were again. The 8 irrelevant GOP presidential candidates. There they were being asked questions last night by the pimps for Wall Street from CNBC. Quite remarkable, really. Jim Cramer, a man who worked for Goldman before he became a screeching nut for CNBC, was there asking questions of presidential candidates. Cramer is the guy who went on record a while back explaining how he used to game the stock market as head trader for Goldman Sachs.
So, in a way, it was fitting last night to have Republicans being asked questions by those who earn their living by shilling and pimping for the rich. Republicans strive to get elected for the sole purpose of manipulating government for the sake of the top 1%....and CNBC celebrities strive to please the money-shuffling sponsors who pay their big salaries.

Ohioans Punch Back
Ohio Governor John Kasich's union-busting Issue 2 has gone down in flames. By a 61%-39% margin, voters rejected Ohio Republicans attempt to pin state revenue shortfalls during a deep recession on unionized teachers, police, firefighters and other state public employees.
The question now remains: Will this humiliating defeat for John Kasich lead to a change in course by the Governor and his group of elected Republicans in Columbus?

Forced Pregnancy Referendum In Mississippi
Along with Ohio's SB5 referendum vote in Ohio today.....is Mississippi's referendum vote on "fetal personhood." Voters in Mississippi today will be deciding whether they believe all fertilized human eggs are, in fact, "persons"...and thus entitled to all the protections guaranteed to all other U.S."persons."
Of course, this Mississippi referendum has nothing to do with granting personhood rights to fertilized human eggs...it has to do with denying all Mississippi women the right to choose their own reproductive lives. Ending abortion....that's what the poor southern state is putting to a vote today.

Ohio's Issue 3: Wingnut Flypaper
Most Ohioans understand by now the stakes inherent in Ohio Issue 2. A no vote on Ohio's Issue 2 on Tuesday is a vote to repeal SB5, an extremist, anti-labor, GOP-forced bill to end collective bargaining rights of Ohio public employees. Polls are predicting a humiliating loss for LittleJohn Kasich's SB5. Republicans in Ohio...by 60%-40%....are on the wrong side of this issue. Ohio Republican voters are the only voting block in favor of terminating public employee unions. On Tuesday, Democrats and Independent voters are poised to give LittleJohn a good and well-deserved electoral spanking.

Cutting Spending Makes Matters Worse
Should the Super-Cartoon-Characters on the Super Committee fail to come to a consensus by Thanksgiving, automatic cuts to discretionary government spending will go into effect. While entitlements are excluded from the automatic cuts, defense spending is not.
That reality is now being taken seriously by Republicans. Up until now, Republicans have encouraged cutting government spending at every turn. All spending except defense spending, that is. Some Republicans have paid lip service to cutting defense spending...but as a rule, Republicans have resisted any serious cuts in defense spending. Defense spending has doubled from 2001. We now spend approximately $700 billion per year on defense.
