Those are the Republican senators who voted against cloture on a bill extending unemployment benefits. Apparently, those Republicans do not care too much about the plight of those who are unemployed and whose unemployment insurance checks have run out. And why would they care? Most of those senators are wealthy. Why would they be in a hurry to help unemployed Americans? To read more or comment...
Next Tuesday Ohio voters will decide the outcome of three statewide initiatives. The Reverend's recommendation is for Ohio voters to vote "no" on all three.
Issue 1 is, I think, a symbolic initiative, a feel-good intitiative which proposes to give Ohio servicepeople, especially those who have served in Iraq or Afghanistan, up to a $1000 bonus as a symbol of Ohio's appreciation for their service. To read more or comment...
The Fabulous Thunderbirds, one of my favorite contemporary blues groups, made the song my blog title rips off famous back in the 90's. I entitle my post with it today because of the schizophrenic messages coming from conservative and Villager voices over the 10-months-in-office President Obama.
Here's what I mean.To read more or comment...
Democratic representatives Jane Harmon and Loretta Sanchez, both of California, and both self-labeled Blue Dog Democrats, have come out strongly in favor of a public option insurance provision in the final health care reform bill. Good for them.
If you've noticed, Blue Dogs are the darlings of corrupt mainstream media,...oddly though,.... only when Democratics hold power in Congress. Often the media gasbags, themselves pawns of big corporate interests, refer to the opposition of the Mighty Blue Dogs as the Genuinely-Serious concern of great patriots who serve only to resolutely stand watch over our tax dollars. To read more or comment...
There is no more self-satisifed, arrogant, repellent fellow in Congress than Senator Joe Lieberman (I-CT). As a Democrat, he couldn't get his nose up George W. Bush's derriere far enough. Lieberman, like all totally discredited neo-conservatives, not only cheered every bloody move by Bush/Cheney in Iraq, but encouraged the Terror Twins to attack Iran as well.To read more or comment...
I've purposely avoided writing very much about the alleged debate allegedly going on over health care reform. As I see it, up til now, we haven't been debating anything. However, now with President Max Baucus' (D-MT) immaculately-conceived version of health reform coming up for a vote today in his Senate Finance Committee, we're getting closer to starting the real debate. What we've had up til now has been the equivalency of a pre-game cheerleader dance routine......something to look at and divert our attention but having nothing, really, to do with the "game."
Worth noting is how Village conventional wisdom on health care reform legislation instantly coagulated around President Max Baucus' Finance Committee bill. You would never know that there are FOUR other congressional health reform versions to be considered, all of which, by the way, include a strong public option alternative. To read more or comment...
I must say that I really haven't been surprised by the response of conservatives and Village-whore media to President Obama's winning of the Nobel Peace Prize yesterday. From the start of his presidency it has been made clear that the main objective of Obama's instant-opposition has been to see Obama "fail." Winning a prestigious award is not "failing".....or is it?
For today's conservatives, Democrats have no legitimate right to govern, even when elected by a wide margin. To read more or comment...
Republicans don't take too kindly to trial lawyers. Not lawyers, as such....but "trial" lawyers. To hear conservatives and Republicans talk the way they do about them-there "trial" lawyers, you might be led to believe that, whoever they are, trial lawyers are just slightly less dangerous to our nation than al-Qaeda members.
One recent example of this we-hate-trial-lawyers craze has been the dropping of the occasional "tort reform" bomb during health care reform discussions. Though it has been clearly shown by neutral data compilers that medical malpractice lawsuits only account for somewhere between 1% and 3% of our total national health care costs.....Republicans, when they have offered anything at all, have always raised the idea of limiting, capping what those trial lawyers can win for their crippled, butchered or dead clients. To read more or comment...
The United States is a uniquely exceptional country in the world and always has been. Take the former Soviet Union as an example of how superior the US. is. The Soviets were silly enough to allow communist authoritarians to rule over them. The U.S., on the other hand, is a much more advanced society in which only corporate oligarchs can be our authoritarian rulers. The U.S. is a Christian nation and the former Soviets were only godless atheists bound for hell.To read more or comment...
In Chapter One of The Wingnut Wars we found RNC Chairman Michael Steele apologizing to Comedien King Limbaugh for saying that the Rotund Lord of All Conservatism was but..."an entertainer", who spouts off stupid stuff that is, "yes, is incendiary, yes, it's ugly."To read more or comment...
Yesterday, the House voted 258-163 to approve a non-binding recommendation prohibiting the transfer of detainees from Guantanamo to the U.S. for trial or imprisonment. 88 Democrats voted with the majority.
Here's the typical defense for continuing, indefinitely, American offshore gulags.....To read more or comment...
