"Sincerely Held Religious Beliefs"....Or A Sham?

By The Reverend Published: July 3, 2014

The only respected religion in the U.S. is Christianity. All other religions are suspect, with the exception of Judaism.....I guess, because Christianity was birthed out of Judaism. So was Islam, but Muslims are genocidal, terrorist maniacs...so Islam isn't worthy of respect.

According to the Supreme Court of the United States of 2014....."sincerely held religious beliefs" (translation: sincerely held Christian/Jewish beliefs) of U.S. citizens can now be properly ascertained by 5 Holy Catholic Supreme Court Justices. It may have not registered with many folks yet, but that is one helluva new power the Supremes claim they have.

What is especially revealing in the Supremes tragic ruling making corporations entities capable of worship and possessing a conscience is the criteria used by the 5 Supremes in determining how "sincere" the Green family's "religious beliefs" really are. Yes, the Hobby Lobby owner-family claimed that they really, really.....honest to god....believe that specific contraceptive products destroy fertilized human eggs, and that that destruction oh-so-violates the Green family's very sensitive consciences that they couldn't be true to their god if they knew that their employees, perchance, might be ordering, and using, such ungodly products.

No, the Obamacare mandate didn't force the Green family, or any other family or individual, to use contraception.....but a provision which gave employees the option of choosing to use contraceptives made the Green's feel, you know, dirty.....complicit in "sin."

The Supremes found that couple-steps-of-separation "religious conscience violation" compelling. Stripsearch Sammy Alito explained that the Court had no reason to question the "sincerity" of what Hobby Lobby owners claimed they believed because of their religion.

But hold on a cotton-picking minute. How "serious" are the Greens about the evil of contraception? Here is how serious....

(Hobby Lobby's) retirement plan has over $73M sunk into funds that include companies that make contraception.

The company made the investments in mutual funds that include Teva Pharmaceutical Industries, Actavis, Pfizer, Forest Laboratories, Aetna and Humana three months after it filed its lawsuit. The companies in their portfolio make contraceptive pills, abortion drugs, IUDs, and provide surgical abortions and emergency contraception. The funds comprise three quarters of Hobby Lobby's overall portfolio.

I guess sincerity is hypocritical, or something. Employees who might be out there buying and using contraception offends the Green's consciences terribly.....but making money from the companies who produce those contraceptives doesn't bother the Green's consciences at all. That seems....I don't know....wrong, doesn't it?

What is true about the Green family is that they are fundamentalist evangelical Christians who believe in the literal interpretation of the Bible. In fact, one of the Green's projects is to bring "biblical studies" to all our public schools.....as an elective at first, and then mandatory....because, you know, freedom.

Along with very, very sensitive consciences easily violated by the thought of what their employees might be using in the privacy of their own homes.....the Green's are also very sensitive about how illiterate American children are when it comes to god's word.

If school age children could just be educated in the Bible like the Greens have been educated, then they just might be awed by the god described in the Bible.....perhaps, then, more children could develop easily offended, sincerely-held, religious consciences too.

Here are a few biblical texts which, undoubtedly, will make children who learn them more appreciative of the righteous qualities of the biblical god.....

"Now go, attack the Amalekites and totally destroy all that belongs to them. Do not spare them; put to death men and women, children and infants, cattle and sheep, camels and donkeys."1 Samuel 15:3

"Thou shalt surely smite the inhabitants of that city with the edge of the sword, destroying it utterly, and all that is therein, and the cattle thereof, with the edge of the sword." (Deuteronomy 13:15)

"And he brought forth the people that were therein, and put them under saws, and under harrows of iron, and under the axes of iron, and made them pass through the brickkiln: and thus did he unto all the cities of the children of Ammon. So David and all the people returned unto Jerusalem." (II Samuel 12:31)

"Behold, these caused the children of Israel, through the counsel of Balaam, to commit trespass against the LORD in the matter of Peor, and there was a plague among the congregation of the LORD. Now therefore kill every male among the little ones, and kill every woman that hath known man by lying with him. But all the women children, that have not known a man by lying with him, keep alive for yourselves." (Numbers 31:16-18)

That is the god of the religion which Sam Alito and his Catholic colleagues deem worthy of special exemption to U.S. law. The Greens have dedicated their lives (except for their investments) to serving, worshiping and obeying that god.

And that "sincerity" moved Sammy Alito so much that he was more than willing, like the biblical god the Greens worship, to sacrifice the legal rights of all "unclean" female employees working for the Greens.

Because, I guess, it's better that all women are treated as if they are unclean whores than for the occasional "sincere" employer to suffer the excruciating pain of knowing those unclean whores are out there having "consequence-free sex" compliments of the benefit package those female employees were promised when they were hired.

Makes perfect goddamn sense.
