So much craziness, so little time.
If you have not watched the movie trailer which catalyzed the recent protests and violence in Libya and Egypt.....go here and watch it...then read this latest AP account about who made the movie "Innocence of Muslims." Also, here's a good timeline of the events.
The Libyan and Egyptian protests caused by the film trailer led to the deaths of four U.S. State Department personnel inside Libya. The violence and the killing have been universally condemned.
Comments about this violence were released late Tuesday night by Mitt Romney's campaign.....and prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that Mr. Romney is totally unprepared to represent the U.S. on the world stage. Yes, stick a fork in him, he's done. Back to Mitt in a minute.
The childish anti-Muslim movie trailer was made in the United States allegedly by Nakoula Basseley Nakoula for the express purpose of riling up Muslims. Read the AP account of the people involved in making the movie and draw your own conclusions.....however, here's a statement by one of the film makers....
"We went into this knowing this was probably going to happen," Klein said.
Well, yeah. And I can't help but wonder about the timing.
Excerpts from the anti-Muslim movie appeared first on YouTube in July. The same person who uploaded the film excerpts in July "uploaded an overdubbed version, apparently in Arabic, on September 4."
Seven days before 9-11, the film's makers released an Arabic overdubbed version of the Muslim-mocking movie trailer.
Steve Klein, described by the AP as "a Christian activist involved in the film project", has a history....
The Southern Poverty Law Center, which monitors hate groups, said Klein is a former Marine and longtime religious-right activist who has helped train paramilitary militias at a California church. It described Klein as founder of Courageous Christians United, which conducts protests outside abortion clinics, Mormon temples and mosques.
It quoted Klein as saying he believes that California is riddled with Muslim Brotherhood sleeper cells "who are awaiting the trigger date and will begin randomly killing as many of us as they can."
Islamophobia has been a continuous problem in the U.S ever since 9-11.....but intolerance of Muslims increased dramatically in the discussions over an Islamic Civic Center being built blocks away from Ground Zero. Not our nation's finest moment.
Politically speaking, however, it is the comments and/or Tweets by Mitt Romney and RNC Chairman, Reince Krispies, while this story was breaking, which should cause voters to pause and take notice.
At 10:09 p.m., (Tuesday, 9-11) campaign spokeswoman Andrea Saul e-mailed press with a statement by Mitt Romney responding to the attacks on U.S. embassies in Egypt and Libya.
“I'm outraged by the attacks on American diplomatic missions in Libya and Egypt and by the death of an American consulate worker in Benghazi," the statement read. "It's disgraceful that the Obama Administration's first response was not to condemn attacks on our diplomatic missions, but to sympathize with those who waged the attacks.”
The assertion that the administration sympathized with attackers was derived from a statement by the U.S. Embassy in Cairo — before the compound was breached — criticizing an anti-Muslim film that "hurt the religious feelings" of others.
RNC Chairman, Reince Krispies, Tweeted immediately after Romney's late night e-mail to the press....
"Obama sympathizes with attackers. Sad and pathetic."
I agree here with Josh Marshall's appraisal....
This was amateur hour for the opposition campaign last night, reminiscent of John McCain’s rash call four years ago to cancel the presidential debates and the campaign itself to deal with the unfolding economic crisis.
Romney and Krispies know their campaign is heading in the wrong direction....just like McCain knew his campaign was in trouble when he "suspended" his campaign in an embarrassing Keystone Kops moment in October 2008. Romney, sensing his own defeat, reacted without thinking and all for what he hoped would be political gain....as Obama said later...Mitt "shoots first and then aims later."
Shockingly, except for a few conservative flat-earthers like the detestable Palin, most Republicans and much of conservative media either denounced Romney's desperate move or remained silent about it. That, in itself, communicates the unacceptable nature of blaming President Obama for sympathizing with Muslim "attackers" before attacks were even made.
No one likes Mitt Romney, presidential candidate. No one. Romney is a turkey of a candidate. Now, after this case study in how unprepared Mitt is to be the next president, you can go ahead and stick the fork in......cause he's done.
