Stomping Cockroaches

By The Reverend Published: February 20, 2014

Beginning on April 6, 1994, Hutus began slaughtering the Tutsis in the African country of Rwanda. As the brutal killings continued, the world stood idly by and just watched the slaughter. Lasting 100 days, the Rwanda genocide left approximately 800,000 Tutsis and Hutu sympathizers dead.

When RTLM (Radio Télévison des Milles Collines) began broadcasting on July 8, 1993, it also spread hate.....

Once the killings started, RTLM went beyond just espousing hate; they took an active role in the slaughter. The RTLM called for the Tutsi to "cut down the tall trees," a code phrase which meant for the Hutu to start killing the Tutsi. During broadcasts, RTLM often used the term inyenzi ("cockroach") when referring to Tutsis and then told Hutu to "crush the cockroaches."

Fast forward to Ted Nugent's 2012 America....

"I spotlighted cockroaches and rallied those who care to stomp them out at the voting booth in November, as is my duty as an American."

And again in 2013...

"I'm so effective at spotlighting the cockroaches," he said. "The cockroaches have a media and the cockroaches have a government, so they turn on me everyday and I couldn't be more proud. My name is Schindler and I have a list. And the Nazis don't like it. Kiss my a--."

And again this month....

“I could run for public office,” he said. “It’s scary and indicative of how tragic things are that pretty much everybody here today shook my hand firmly and stated firmly how they wish I would run for public office to help spotlight cockroaches, those who are violating their oath to the Constitution.”

So what's the latest gig for the "cockroach spotlighter/stomper"?

Texas Republican gubernatorial candidate Greg Abbott says Ted Nugent is accompanying him on the trail to expose Wendy Davis’s weakness on gun rights.

Tuesday of this week....

"We don't have to question Greg Abbott's courage – because he invited me here today," Nugent told the crowd at El Guapo's restaurant in Denton. The two were scheduled to appear again later in Wichita Falls.

The conservative base room mother then weighed in....

“If he is good enough for Ted Nugent, he is good enough for me,” (Sarah) Palin wrote.

During the momunmental WTF-years of the Cheney administration, I kept telling myself that the utterly disastrous dealings and decisions I was witnessing would surely never stand in our "nation of laws." But I was mistaken. Call me naive, I guess.

Then, following the nation's election of its first black president, I watched the Tea sore losers with their funny hats and signs....and guns....launch their embarrassing and idiotic political war against the same people Ted Nugent calls "cockroaches." I kept thinking....surely this utter nonsense, this amateur cartoonish display by the conservative base would collapse under the weight of its own incomprehensible stupidity and dishonesty. But again, I was mistaken.

Now the craziness.....the 'surely this will not stand' getting worse.

Consider.....a former vice-presidential candidate for the Republican Party in 2008 is now endorsing the endorsement of...well....a crazy man obsessed with guns, while that crazy man campaigns alongside of the favored GOP candidate for Texas governor.

An exaggeration? Not on your live. Even Terrible Ted understands how crazy all this is...."We don't have to question Greg Abbott's courage – because he invited me here today." Courage.....desperation.....or just plain insanity? Most likely the next GOP governor of the Lone Gun State, Greg Abbott, is campaigning alongside of a guy who refers to non-rich Democratic voters, elected Democrats and "subhuman mongrel" Obama as "cockroaches" deserving of a good "stomping."

And did I mention that Nugent is the "all-that" spokesman for the NRA? Ted has served as a Board Director of the NRA since 1995.

So now, again, I'm guessed it....surely this absolutely unacceptable, dangerous and destructive political behavior will not stand. Surely, voters will not embrace leaders who campaign with violent talking, "cockroach" stomping, gun obsessed, hate-spewing, nation-dividing......certifiably crazy guys. But now, I'm not so sure.

The question becomes: Can the United States survive the next 8 years without permanent damage to the Union? It will be 8 years before a new redistricting of congressional districts will even allow for a more representative Congress. Eight years.

It only took Rwanda Hutus a few months to deal with their Tutsis "cockroach" problem.
