About This Blog
Yesterday, I blogged about the apparent insanity, (or very, very bad case of denial), that Arizona Senator, Jon Kyl expressed with his Republican belief that deep tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans do not EVER need offset with spending cuts.
Senate Minority Leader, Mitch McConnell and once-nominee for Obama's Commerce Department, New Hampshire Senator, Judd Gregg...have now chimed in....and it's official.
What's official? Republican Senators believe in fairy tales. Make believe.
"That's been the majority Republican view for some time," Minority Leader Mitch McConnell told TPMDC this afternoon after the weekly GOP press conference. "That there's no evidence whatsoever that the Bush tax cuts actually diminished revenue. They increased revenue, because of the vibrancy of these tax cuts in the economy. So I think what Senator Kyl was expressing was the view of virtually every Republican on that subject."
Gregg not only swears to Kyl and McConnell's lie....he takes the lie down into new depths of incoherence.....
"It makes a lot of sense, because, you know, when you're raising taxes you're taking money out of peoples' pockets,"..... "When you're spending money, you're spending money that is -- it's not the same thing because it's growing the government. So I tend to think that tax cuts should not have to be offset."
Incoherence that Paul Krugmann calls "Invincible Ignorance".
For discussion purposes...does this chart demonstrate that the deep Bush tax cuts "increased government revenue?"
Does this chart prove that deeply cutting taxes on America's wealthy during the Bush years resulted in a "vibrant", job-producing economy?
What these graphs actually demonstrate is that Bush's deep tax cuts resulted in current revenue and job numbers that are, approximately, at late 90's levels.
Another way of saying it would be: Bush's tax cuts have taken the American economy back a decade....both in terms of available jobs and in terms of historic deficits.
Not speculation, not wild-eyed commie boilerplate.....but what the EVIDENCE demonstrates.
I've long argued that the Republican Party of Newt Gingrich, Tom DeLay, Rush Limbaugh and Fox News.....is, basically, an anti-American party. Wars of choice, torture, spying on Americans, offshore gulags, presidential assassination-of-U.S-citizens powers, denying due process....are all anti-American practices (crimes) cheered on, still, by the Republican Party.
Much of America's history, as well as and it's laws, must be dismissed by Republicans in order to support such anti-American atrocities.
Yet Republicans think nothing of dismissing all of it.
In the same way....now...Republicans are dismissing the empirical evidence of Bush's onslaught on America's economy.
Facts don't have a liberal bias. Facts are simply facts.
The new Republican feature of our current dialogue......(and if this is where we're at now, just think where we'll be with a Republican Congress)....is that facts, evidence, demonstrable proof can and SHOULD be disregarded.....as if it never existed at all.
New & Improved Rule: If a Republican openly denies the facts (lies) about a situation, say, like, Bush's tax cuts.....all Republicans will deny the facts about that situation.....and swear that the lie is true.
After further evaluation....maybe there is nothing "new" about it at all.
