My. OH. My.
Not from Ron Susskind's new book, "The Way of the World", but, instead, The American Conservative....
An extremely reliable and well placed source in the intelligence community has informed me that Ron Suskind’s revelation that the White House ordered the preparation of a forged letter linking Saddam Hussein to al-Qaeda and also to attempts made to obtain yellowcake uranium is correct but that a number of details are wrong.
My source also notes that Dick Cheney, who was behind the forgery, hated and mistrusted the Agency and would not have used it for such a sensitive assignment. Instead, he went to Doug Feith’s Office of Special Plans and asked them to do the job. The Pentagon has its own false documents center, primarily used to produce fake papers for Delta Force and other special ops officers traveling under cover as businessmen. It was Feith’s office that produced the letter and then surfaced it to the media in Iraq. Unlike the Agency, the Pentagon had no restrictions on it regarding the production of false information to mislead the public. Indeed, one might argue that Doug Feith’s office specialized in such activity. Link
What say ye, oh great conservatives of little faith in the word of The Reverend? Should Cheney resign? Or should Bush AND Cheney resign? Or....should John McCain simply add treason to his campaign platform? Should Republicans simply run on treason to, you know, stimulate the base? If you're a Republican, like, say, Alberto Gonzales, and you openly perjure yourself under oath, the GOP cheerleaders on the sideline applaud. Why shouldn't the GOP run on it's, you know, strength. 'You've been proud of perjury, now triumph in treason.'
I'm sure that, no matter what else, this will be good news for Republicans, right?
The entire Iraq crime was a....ummm....crime. Neo-con Republican criminals were going to attack and occupy the nation of Iraq, no matter who tried to stop them or object. Iraq was THE foreign policy of Bush-Cheney before inauguration, that's why they rejected Richard Clarke's pleas to listen to him about Bin Laden after inauguration. That's why Iraq maps were on the president's desk in February, 2001....conveniently denoting locations of oil assets. That's why warnings of Islamic extremist attacks were brushed off.....George and Dick were going to Iraq....and if The Dick had to order a couple of forgeries along the way, so be it.
Over 4100 American soldiers are now dead. Hundreds of thousands of Iraqis. They all died in a U.S. military act of agression ordered, at least in part, on the basis of forged documents, themselves ordered to be fabricated by the White House itself. With all the necessary 'plausible deniability' for the Decider built right in.
For four years I've been blogging about these very issues. I've known about them since early 2002. Time and time again I've been accused of being one of those, like, conspiracy theorists. Wild eyed, tuning my tinfoil hat to receive alien signals. All in good fun and so forth.....but....one goddamn thing for sure....those folks I mentioned in the previous paragraph.....they are still dead.
And the current president and vice-president of the United States of America are still traitors deserving of long federal prison sentences.
