WWJW: Who Would Jesus Whip?

By The Reverend Published: October 30, 2011

Bryan Fischer is the American Family Association guy who recently said that Mitt Romney was not a Christian. Romney's a Mormon. And Mormons, according to Fischer, are not Christians. Instead, Mormons are cult members. Which is meant to sound scary....but really isn't, because all religious groups are cults....all of them.

Is The Tea Party Over?

By The Reverend Published: October 28, 2011

It's been fun, I have to admit that. However, all good times eventually wind down, and that's what appears to be happening with the political influence and stagecraft of the TEA Party. The TEA Party burst on the scene as an anti-Democratic protest movement, primarily protesting the election of America's first black president, who also happened to be a Democrat. The TEAs were going to take back their country, although from what or from whom was never thoroughly explained.

Although TEA Party leaders and spokespeople complained loudly that what they represented was a return to fiscal discipline and smaller government, there were no sightings of this protest movement during the doubling of our national debt, the ballooning of our budget deficit, or the bloating of government programs under the Republican presidency of George W. Bush. To this blogger, that contradiction was always the biggest "tell" of who the TEA Party represented.

Special Halloween Costume For Ohioans

By The Reverend Published: October 26, 2011

I have an idea for a Halloween costume in Ohio this year.

My costume suggestion includes carrying a small oxygen tank with an oxygen mask attached to a sandwich board sign costume with "SB5" written on both front and back. Why? Because SB5 has now officially been placed on life support awaiting it's November 8th demise.

Old, Sick People Must Pay

By The Reverend Published: October 25, 2011

It was transparently clear during the last national hostage-taking crisis that Republicans would never allow any further legislation to pass which would help relieve the misery of the have-nots who are still reeling from the Big Bankster Caper. A political party that would push the richest and most powerful nation in all of human history to the brink of bankruptcy to damage the chances for re-election of their most hated opponent, President Obama....will try anything to regain power. So, current Republican obstructionism over Obama's second jobs stimulus bill is as natural now as water flowing downhill.

Despite Droopy Dawg McConnell's description of the GOP's number one priority..."making President Obama a one term president"....President Obama has never given up on "winning over" Republican votes for his policies. Obama's politics are not the same old partisan politics, dontcha know. This, of course, has proven to be total foolishness....worse than wishful thinking on Obama's part....but it is what it is.

Libya's Oil Finally Liberated

By The Reverend Published: October 21, 2011

The Libyan leader, Muammar Gaddafi, has been killed. The Anglo war led by NATO against the dictator has been successful in it's objective: regime change. Although the U.S. president told us that regime change was not the objective when he announced the U.S. involvement in the effort....that was the objective all along....just as in Iraq.

Regime change. It's what we do.

Vegas Debate: Same Old Tired, Failed Nonsense

When Boot Strappers Mock

By The Reverend Published: October 17, 2011

One of the mild surprises during the Occupy Wall Street month-long protest has been the tone deafness exhibited by...well...rich guys from Wall Street. If you haven't seen the video of the champagne drinking money shufflers looking down upon the scruffy protesters.....now's the time...

We're All Neo-Cons Now

By The Reverend Published: October 14, 2011

President Obama's biggest disappointment, at least to progressives, has been his, I guess, "rebirth", as a neo-conservative.

During Obama's campaign for the presidency, he made political hay out of George and Dick's offshore gulags, torture of detainees, unprovoked military attacks and occupations of countries posing no threat to America, eavesdropping on Americans without warrants, secrecy, and much more. Rightfully so. The Bush years were marked by an expansion of presidential powers in violation of the Constitution....and the worst part is, the Bushies got away with all of it...thus setting a precedent.

Romney Would Bailout Banksters Again

By The Reverend Published: October 12, 2011

Another week, another GOP presidential candidates debate. The only thing different about this debate was the teevee network it was on. The Bloomberg Network. What struck me as different was all the Pete Peterson Foundation ads during commercial breaks. The ones which call for abolishing Social Security and Medicare. So fitting for a Republican Party debate.

One highlight of note....Newt Gingrich, a truly walking, talking embarrassment, called last night for the incarceration of Democrats Barney Frank and Chris Dodd. For the crime of legislating.

My Invisible God Is Better Than Yours

By The Reverend Published: October 10, 2011

There was a lot of talk over the weekend about former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney's Mormon religion.

This past weekend brought us the Value Voters Summit in D.C. The gathering is organized and run by mostly far right, conservative evangelical Christian leaders. The Summit's straw vote went to Ron Paul....but the hubbub from the weekend was the bold statement by "Megachurch pastor and Rick Perry supporter Robert Jeffress."

The Tale Of Two Protests

By The Reverend Published: October 7, 2011

Back in the early goings of 2009, corporate media loved themselves some TEA Party. The hanging teabags. The Mel Gibson Patriot rent-a-costumes. The "don't tread on me" flags. The "taxed enough already" signs.

Teevee media was all-the-hell-over the TEA Party. Sister Sarah and the odd Glenn Beck embraced the TEAs early, Fox News became the TEA Party's promoter. Even "liberal" MSNBC's Chrissy Matthews, and others, were twitterpated by the enthusiasm of this allegedly grassroots conservative movement, championed by, according to Fox's Roger Ailes, the "hot" Sarah Palin.

Rare TEA Party Candor

By The Reverend Published: October 3, 2011

Over the weekend, I obtained a copy of an e-mail written to members by the Executive Director of the Portage County TEA Party, Tom Zawistowski. The substance of the e-mail concerns itself with the November referendum vote in Ohio to keep or reject SB5, the now-infamous collective bargaining smashing legislation passed by Governor Kasich and his Tea Party Confederacy in Ohio's state legislature.

The ballot issue will be Issue 2. The vote is on November 8, just a few short weeks away. To vote to end collective bargaining for public employees, Ohioans will vote "yes." To vote to kill SB5 and thus maintain the collective bargaining rights of public employees, Ohioans will vote "no."
