Governor Kasich and his merry band of GOP supply side troglodytes managed to pass and sign into law a 2 year budget on Sunday which not only benefits the rich few in the state at the expense of average citizens, but also properly relegates Ohio women to the back of the autonomy bus, where, apparently, Republicans in Ohio think they belong.
Ohio governors have line item veto power and, indeed, Kasich did use that veto power to strike down 22 line items in the GOP budget proposal bill. But Little-John left the tax cuts heavily favoring the top few percent of Ohioans, and the GOP legislature's fierce attack on Ohio women's right to self-determination, entirely in place. Combine this dastardly betrayal of Ohio women and Ohio workers with Kasich's previous SB 5 union-busting efforts and it is easy to see not only why he should not be re-elected next fall, but also why the GOP majority in Columbus must be replaced.
Kasich is an oily, sometimes goofy, little character practiced in the arts of deception as a Fox contributor....and experienced as a Wall Street fleecer of the average folk while supply siding it at Lehman Brothers before Lehman went rotting-flesh-bellyup in 2008.
Ohio Tea Republicans thought a guy like Kasich would be just the guy they needed in the Governor's Mansion to smackdown working Ohioans, return women back to their god-given duties of bearing children whether they wanted to or not.....and of course, rewarding the wealthy "job creators" in the top 1% through redistributive tactics. In the perfect winger storm that was the 2010 midterm election....Teas got their wish.
After stripping schools, counties, cities and townships of state funding just 3 years ago in order to "balance" the state budget under challenge by the Bush Depression.....Little John signed into law on Sunday a new budget deal which cuts taxes by $2.7 billion, primarily for the benefit of the wealthiest Ohioans.....while raising sales tax rates on all Ohioans to pay for it. The budget signed Sunday raises the state's sales tax rate from 5.5% to 5.75%. It's comforting to know that when you pay 1/4% higher sales tax, you'll be helping to pay for an income tax cut for Ohio's millionaires or better.
As reprehensible as redistributing average working family sales tax monies to a few rich Ohioans is.......the all out brutal attacks on Ohio's women contained within the barbaric Ohio budget are even worse.
"These provisions in the Ohio state budget are part of an orchestrated effort to roll back women's rights and access to health care in Ohio. The budget is only the latest in a series of restrictive laws signed by John Kasich that have hurt the women in our state who need more access to health care, not less," Stephanie Kight, president of Planned Parenthood of Greater Ohio, said in a statement.
Mandatory, yet medically unnecessary, transabdominal ultrasounds are what all abortion-seeking females in Ohio will have to endure so that Tea Republicans can feel like they have done their duty in properly humiliating and shaming Ohio women before permitting them to practice their legal right to choose. God will surely be pleased....and have I mentioned lately how state government thugs intervening between woman and doctor decisions is an example of "small non-intrusive government?"
But unnecessary ultrasounds are only the beginning of what Ohio GOP'ers have in store for Ohio women who still think they are living in 21st century America. Kasich's budget defunds Planned Parenthood and redirects funds to forced pregnancy "crisis centers".....
"Opponents of the new abortion restriction said that three clinics in Ohio would likely close now that the measure is implemented." The backwards state of Mississippi is down to one abortion provider in the entire state....and apparently, Ole Miss has become the envy of every GOP soldier in the right's war on women.
Kasich's budget creates a Catch 22 for abortion clinics in the state, mandating that all surgical clinics, including abortion clinics, have a hospital emergency transfer agreement established and yet prohibiting hospitals from granting said emergency transfer agreement to abortion provider clinics.....
...if a woman is able to obtain an abortion in Ohio and develops some sort of medical issue during the procedure, clinics will no longer be allowed to transfer these patients to public hospitals for additional care. In the midst of a crisis, these patients must find a private hospital to help them.
Hey, what could say "you're an evil slut and you're on your own" better than denying Ohio women access to a hospital during an emergency while exercising their legal right to choose, right? I think George W. Bush called that "compassionate conservatism". Odd.
Oh, and have I mentioned that Little John and the Ohio Freedom Destroyers have also purposely denied Medicaid expansion coverage to nearly 300,000 poor working Ohioans.....an expansion that would add $3 billion to Ohio's yearly economy and cost the state nothing for several years to come? Yeah, that too.
All of this is part of the "freedom" and "liberty" that Teas and GOP'ers so often talk about.
Not sure how much more "freedom" we can endure.
