Obama's Pre-emptive Caving Problem

By The Reverend Published: June 30, 2011

A good negotiator does not start negotiation talks by bending over backwards to please his opponents. That's called capitulation, not negotiation.

In his press briefing yesterday, President Obama laid out his deficit reduction position, and it is a pre-emptive cave-in to the desires of his GOP opponents. A capitulation.

Biased Towards Big Bags Of Free Speech

By The Reverend Published: June 29, 2011

Let's analyze the latest illogical ruling by the odious John Roberts-led Supreme Court.

Arizona passed a law in 1998 called the Citizens Clean Elections Act. Briefly, Arizona's law says that...

Choking Democracy

By The Reverend Published: June 28, 2011

Wisconsin State Supreme Court Judge David Prosser has a bit of a temper.

If you recall, in April, Prosser won re-election to the Wisconsin Supreme Court in a nail biter election battle against little-known Assistant Attorney General JoAnne Kloppenburg. Kloppenburg, a progressive, was able to take advantage of voter dissatisfaction with Governor Scott Walker's war against public employee unions, making up a nearly 40% gap in polling in the few short weeks leading up to the April 5th election. In the end, Prosser just barely survived winning another term.

I remember listening to the Tennessee cracker, Republican Senator Bob Corker, during the auto bailout hearings. I remember listening to Corker because of what he had to say about U.S. unionized autoworkers. Corker wanted United States autoworkers to work for less money. At the time I thought that sounded odd. Why would a U.S. senator want American workers to work for less, to receive less for their efforts? I thought U.S. senators represented, you know, Americans.

What Cracker Bob was encouraging at the time was the total elimination of the autoworkers union. Unionized workers earn more on average than their non-union counterparts...and to Corker and his GOP buddies....that is seen as a bug to be eliminated not a feature to be celebrated. Since that time in early 2009, we have witnessed a full scale onslaught upon unionized workers by Republican elected officials.

The Great Hoax Of 2011

By The Reverend Published: June 25, 2011

For the last year or so Republicans and their stenographers in the media have been carrying out a hoax on the American people. In a time of perilously low employment when government spending is needed more than ever to fill the hole in demand, the Hoax crowd has successfully focused the American peoples' attention on debt and deficit reduction instead. As was done during the campaign by the same characters to lead us into an illegal war against a non-threatening sovereign country in too again the Hoaxers have been successful in 2010-2011 misleading Americans into believing stuff which is simply not true about our national economy.

The Pearl Clutching Choir has been singing as loudly as they can for over a year now....seeking to mislead American voters into believing if we don't slash and burn Medicare, Social Security, Medicaid, public unions, teachers health care benefits, aid to our most vulnerable citizens, Planned Parenthood and ObamaCare.....our nation will go bankrupt and turn into Somalia, or something similar.

Smearing Obama's Face In It

By The Reverend Published: June 24, 2011

It is little wonder our country is in the economic shape it's in. We are in the middle of a nasty recession. Market demand is too low. While sitting on top of a mountain of cash, big business is barely expanding because of that lack of market demand.....and Democratic senators like corporation-serving Kent Conrad of North Dakota are telling us that $2 trillion in government spending cuts over the next ten years...wait for it.....ISN'T ENOUGH.

There are approximately 30 days left before the United States government begins defaulting on it's creditors. Republican "negotiators"....Eric Cantor and Jon Kyl...have just walked out on the Joe Biden-led meetings to reach a compromise agreement before a vote is taken to lift the debt ceiling and alleviate default.

Pretend Problems

By The Reverend Published: June 22, 2011

Over the years it has been interesting to watch the Republican Party's consistent efforts to keep Americans from being able to vote. In a democracy of and by the people, you'd think that all elected officials would be in favor of as many Americans voting in elections as possible. But that is not true of Republican elected officials. Every time Republicans occupy political seats of power, they seek to pass laws and rules restricting voting.

To illustrate the egregiousness of the GOP's actions to prevent voters from voting, consider this: You take your car in for a routine maintenance check. The car has been running fine, no noticeable problems. The mechanic explains to you that although you haven't been experiencing any problems, the car's motor needs to be replaced just in case the motor experiences a problem in the future. You can imagine what your response would be.

The Great Republican Tax Lie

By The Reverend Published: June 21, 2011

In Pursuit Of Perry

By The Reverend Published: June 17, 2011

As the hapless Republican Party has been busying themselves aimlessly searching for someone...anyone...who can compete against President Obama next fall....they have lit upon Texas Governor, Rick Perry.

Perry is quite the winger leader down in the great sh*tkicker state of Texas....organizing days of prayer as a method of solving problems and talking about seceding from the Union like he has. But despite what you'll here a lot more about should Perry join the GOP Keystone Kop routine media calls the Republican presidential primary battle......Texas is simply not all that.

Anxious To Cover The Crazy

By The Reverend Published: June 16, 2011

I often say mean and ugly things about corporate teevee media. They deserve it, of course, and that's why I call many of media's "stars" the names that I do.

One of the major beefs I have with teevee media is that it's players consider themselves to be Serious Professional Journalists doing Serious Professional Journalism. They're not, of course.....and their failure to actually do their job helped to kill 4400 U.S. soldiers and over 100,000 Iraqis. So, media doing it's job is, you know, kind of important.

Romney: Generals Decide

By The Reverend Published: June 15, 2011

Following up on what I said yesterday about CNN's GOP presidential candidates' "debate".....

I guess it's official. Mitt Romney "emerges (as) an emboldened frontrunner from debate"....says PBS. CNN Politics announced, "Romney emerges as New Hampshire front-runner." "GOP debate solidifies Romney's frontrunner status" claims US News.

GOP's Non-Primetime Players

By The Reverend Published: June 14, 2011

Repeal ObamaCare, cut corporate taxes, cut capital gains taxes, further deteriorate unions by pushing a federal right-to-work law, eliminate the EPA, don't increase the federal government's debt ceiling, pass a traditional marriage constitutional amendment to counter gay marriage initiatives, repeal Dodd-Frank and Sarbanes-Oxley, repeal the repeal of DADT, discriminate openly against Muslim Americans.....and, naturally, Obama is bad.

Another Excuse To Liberate Oil

By The Reverend Published: June 12, 2011

On March 18th I put together a post concerning why the Obama administration started a war in Libya. Contrary to the "liberal" NY Times at the time, who said that Obama started dropping bombs in Libya because "the political imperative" was such that the U.S. couldn't simply watch "from the sidelines while a notorious dictator violently crushed a democratic rebellion".....The Reverend suggested, with evidence, that U.S. leadership was starting yet another war over oil.

Naturally, less informed readers of this lowly blog accused me of being a wild-eyed conspiracy theorist. My friend, King....responded this way...

GOP Double Dip Plan To Oust Obama

The Quest For A Candidate

By The Reverend Published: June 9, 2011

Many might see the Republican Party's frantic scurrying around to find a viable candidate to run against President Obama next fall as a genuine exercise in democracy. Perhaps. But then again, it could be just an act of desperation by a political party which is on it's way to becoming totally irrelevant in America.

Ask yourself....other than cutting taxes and regulations on America's rich and powerful.....what else of any substance does today's GOP offer? That's a tough question to answer, I think.

Failed State?

By The Reverend Published: June 8, 2011

Deregulated mortgage brokers, real estate appraisers, and Wall Street sellers of derivatives and credit default swaps loosely conspired to bring the largest economy in the world to it's knees.

The only people punished were average Americans who lost homes and home equity, jobs, health care, retirement savings...and hope.

In Florida you can pay $400 and in eight days receive a high school diploma.

No word on whether Ohio Governor John Kasich has recommended the Florida program for all of Ohio's public high school students....but just think of the savings. I think Florida is on to something....don't you? Not only would the state be rid of those communist infiltrators teaching our kids evil truths like...evolution, but just imagine all the money our local communities could raise selling off those costly high school buildings.

Free Speech For Me, Not Thee

By The Reverend Published: June 4, 2011

Remember how those opposed to the Citizens United Supreme Court ruling were accused of trying to stifle the free speech rights of powerful corporations? And, remember in that case how we were told that the wheelbarrows of money that powerful corporations pay in political advertising to control who holds public office were not really wheelbarrows of money at all...but instead, wheelbarrows of free speech?

Conservatives and Republicans, generally, were in favor of the wheelbarrows of cash=free speech ruling, and were critical of those who complained about the undue influence that a handful of very powerful and rich citizens would now exercise in our electoral process. Progressives who disagreed with the Supremes ruling knocking 100 years of precedence on it's ass were, and still are, accused of being fascist deniers of free speech and haters of the 1st amendment.

Anti-Reagan GOP

By The Reverend Published: June 2, 2011

It's difficult for conservatives to find a Republican president from modern American history whom they can set forward as a model of the brand of conservatism they are selling today. Republican President Ronald Reagan is the only modern U.S. GOP president whom today's conservatives still speak of with some respect....although I'm not sure how long that will be the case.

Today's Republicans stand together in defiance of any new tax matter what. These GOP'ers are so extreme in their no-tax religion that they will not even entertain closing tax deduction loopholes for multi-national oil corporations making $11 billion in quarterly profits. Congressional Republicans have been fully indoctrinated to respond to any questions about tax increases this way...."we do not have a revenue problem, we have a spending problem."

Enemies Of The People

By The Reverend Published: June 1, 2011

In theory, political parties are supposed to represent constituents....the "for the people" part of our democracy. In the U.S. we have two major political parties, neither of whom represent the citizens of our country.

Case in point is the disgustingly corrupt vote taken yesterday in the GOP-Tea House of Representatives.
