'British citizen and CNN television host Piers Morgan is engaged in a hostile attack against the U.S. Constitution by targeting the Second Amendment. We demand that Mr. Morgan be deported immediately for his effort to undermine the Bill of Rights and for exploiting his position as a national network television host to stage attacks against the rights of American citizens.'
The above petition to deport Piers Morgan currently has 70,000 "signatures" online.
The petition came about because Mr. Morgan, a British citizen working as an anchor for CNN, dared to exercise his first amendment rights on December 18th while discussing 2nd amendment rights with a Mr. Larry Pratt, executive director of Gun Owners of America. The transcript of their discussion is found here. The video of the discussion is found here.
There's no doubt that Piers Morgan verbally attacked Mr. Pratt, particularly when Morgan said that Mr. Pratt was an "unbelievably stupid man." But the petition to deport the British citizen is not over name calling on teevee.....instead, the petition requests Morgan be deported for "his effort to undermine the Bill of Rights."
Exercising free speech rights as guaranteed under the 1st amendment.....if that exercise is critical of how America has interpreted the 2nd amendment.....makes one worthy of deportation. Or, in other words,.....the 2nd amendment is the only amendment in the Bill of Rights, everything else is negotiable. Put another way, speech should be regulated fiercely, but not guns.
Of course, this is all much to do about nothing.....similar to the 50 state petitions following the election requesting information from the White House on how their individual state might secede from the Union. I wonder if all those secessionist petition signers should be interrogated by federal agents for exercising their first amendment rights to undermine the unity and cohesion of the United States of America. I wonder...
Here's former Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, Warren Burger,......"undermining the Bill of Rights" in 1992....
“the Second Amendment doesn’t guarantee the right to have firearms at all.” In his view, the purpose of the Second Amendment was only “to ensure that the ‘state armies’ – ‘the militia’ – would be maintained for the defense of the state.”
Burger said the Second Amendment “has been the subject of one of the greatest pieces of fraud – I repeat the word ‘fraud’ – on the American public by special interest groups that I have ever seen in my lifetime.”
Far as I remember, no petitions were ever circulated seeking to silence Justice Burger for his efforts in "targeting the 2nd amendment."
The "fraud" which has been successfully perpetrated on United States citizens is the mistaken notion that the 2nd amendment guarantees gun ownership to each and every citizen for self-defense purposes. Again, the exact wording of the 2nd amendment....
A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.
The context of legal gun ownership in the United States is obviously "well regulated militias being necessary to the security of a free state." Self-defense from criminals plays no role in the 2nd amendment. The Bill of Rights does not include a guarantee to carry loaded concealed weapons in public places for self-defense purposes.
Despite these obvious truths, the "fraud" continues. NRA gun-manufacturer pimps are the largest perpetrators of Burger's "fraud...on the American people" over the 2nd amendment. The NRA falsely states that they are an organization which "protects and defends" the 2nd amendment.....when what the NRA actually does is purposely distort the 2nd amendment for the sake of increasing profits for gun manufacturers and gun sellers.
Finally.....not content with perpetrating the Justice Burger-mentioned "fraud" that the 2nd amendment unconditionally guarantees every citizen's right to own a hand held killing machine capable of mowing down 60 people or more without reloading.....the NRA and it's ilk are doubling down on their fraudulent ways by insisting that MORE guns in MORE public places....like elementary schools.....is the answer to our problem with.....gun violence.
While I find CNN's Piers Morgan to be mostly a pompous prick......he was correct in saying that....the NRA's position, the Gun Owners of America's position on the 2nd amendment is "unbelievably stupid."
