Vital Details Of Alleged Scandals

By The Reverend Published: May 18, 2013

The alleged Benghazi scandal.....

The White House released 100 e-mails on Tuesday all pertaining to how the "talking points" over the Benghazi violence on 9-11-2012 were assembled. Those talking points were then used by Susan Rice and others to address media concerns the week after the violent event. The following excerpt is vital to understanding the alleged scandal of Benghazi....

Every version of the talking points–which were first crafted by the CIA–asserted that a demonstration had occurred at the U.S. compound in Benghazi. “We believe based on currently available information that the attacks in Benghazi were spontaneously inspired by the protests at the U.S Embassy in Cairo and evolved into a direct assault” on the U.S. facilities, read the talking points....

Throughout two days of exchanges that involved the CIA, FBI, State Department, and White House, no one ever challenged that claim, and that language survived to the end, even as many other phrases were deleted. It’s worth remembering that demonstrations against a notorious anti-Islamic amateur film actually had occurred in 20 other countries,...

The original bitching from Republican and conservative hysterians over Benghazi focused on Susan Rice's media appearances after the Benghazi event. The bone of contention according to those who were bitching from right field was that there was no protest in Benghazi and that the violence had nothing to do with an anti-Muslim video.

And yet, the CIA itself, as was made evident by releasing the e-mails, was convinced that the Benghazi attack was "spontaneously inspired by the protests at the U.S Embassy in Cairo". The Cairo protests were, without question, a response to the anti-Muslim video being shown on Egyptian teevee 10 days before 9-11-12.

The key phrase that demolishes the hysterian-right's entire wild-eyed conspiracy theory is...."no one (involved in working up the talking points) ever challenged that claim." The anti-Muslim video which inspired Cairo protests that day was understood by State, CIA, and the White House from the beginning to have played a role in Benghazi.

Susan Rice is owed an apology by a number of folks on the hysterian right. And ABC's Jonathan Karl should be fired.

The IRS "scandal"....

When hysterical people are in the midst of acting...well...hysterically, it's difficult for anyone to focus on reality....what actually happened. That's what has happened with the alleged IRS scandal. For the hysterians, that's a feature not a bug. Bankrupting ACORN and the firing of Shirley Sherrod were both as a result of hysterians gone ape-shite with nary a fact. The IRS alleged scandal is similar.

What has been the central complaint since the alleged IRS scandal broke out? Tea and Patriot groups were unfairly targeted, politically targeted, for extra-scrutiny by the IRS over their 501 (c)(4) applications for tax-exempt status. Right? Check this out....

Some 75 conservative groups, flagged by agents because of their names, were among 300 groups singled out for this additional scrutiny, she (the IRS's Lois Lerner) said. The agency received more than 3,400 applications for 501(c)(4) status in 2012.

75 out of 300 applications singled out for additional scrutiny were "conservative groups". Which means that 25% of all applications given extra scrutiny were "conservative groups." Which also means that 3 out of 4 applications given extra IRS scrutiny were.....wait for it....not conservative groups. Which to me, proves there is no IRS scandal at all.

The IRS was doing it's job the best it could after getting twice as many (c)(4) applications in 2012, 3400, as they did in 2010, less than 1500. Furthermore, not one Tea or Patriot conservative group was denied tax-exempt (c)(4) status.

The alleged IRS scandal, as I understand it from the hysterians....whom I admit are sometimes difficult to follow.....is that Tea and Patriot groups were singled out for persecution by the IRS. The wilder versions of the alleged IRS scandal spin a conspiratorial yarn as wide as the Mississippi.....Obama ordered the IRS underlings to "target" Teas and Patriots and won re-election in 2012 because the IRS persecuted Tea and Patriot groups by delaying their (c)(4) applications. Active imaginations, they have.

However, if only 75 out of 300 applications which received extra scrutiny by the IRS were "conservative groups", then how is it that Tea and Patriot groups were "singled out" for "persecution?" What about the other 225 groups? Were the 225 non-conservative-groups also "persecuted" because their applications were also targeted for extra scrutiny? And if the non-conservative groups were also "persecuted", "targeted", by having their applications delayed for extra scrutiny......how could it even be argued that Teas and Patriots were "singled out" because they were conservative?

I believe that the above information debunks the notion that there is a scandal at all surrounding either Benghazi or the IRS. Not because I regard the Obama administration as pure of heart or blameless in all things.....after all, Obama claims he, alone, has assassination-of-U.S.-citizens powers.....but instead, on these two "scandals", the hysterians simply got too far out in front of their own spin machine.

That's why it's called....hysteria.
