White Americans: Ferguson Police Have Not "Gone Too Far"

By The Reverend Published: August 20, 2014

Post-racial, my ass....

A new Pew Research Center poll finds sharp divisions on the perception of Ferguson based on race. Overall, by a 44 percent to 40 percent margin, Americans say what’s happening there raises important issues about race. But among blacks, 80 percent say so. Among whites, just 37 percent say it does, while 47 percent believe race is getting more attention than it deserves. Nearly two-thirds of blacks think the police have gone too far; just a third of whites said so. Three-quarters of blacks do not have confidence in the shooting investigation, but a majority of whites — 52 percent — do.

After the many images of a military-style occupation of Ferguson, Missouri have passed before all of us on national network teevee.....only one third of whites polled think police there have "gone too far", while two-thirds of blacks polled think police there have gone too far.

Truly, I don't get it. What explains those numbers?

Numerous journalists have been detained and/or arrested by the stormtroopers in Ferguson......tear gas, tanks, full-metal jacketed local police all having been deployed during protests......and only one third of whites polled think police in Ferguson have gone too far.

The two-thirds black Ferguson has....

....a white mayor; a school board with six white members and one Hispanic, which recently suspended a highly regarded young black superintendent who then resigned; a City Council with just one black member; and a 6 percent black police force.

But only 44% of whites polled think the events taking place there "raises important issues about race."

I mean, WTF?

The mealy mouthed nonsense I have been hearing from conservative Foxians and Rush....are to be expected. Those fascists have made a career out of juicing racial hatred towards blacks among white Americans. But god almighty.....have most white Americans been mesmerized by these fascists?

Here's the Wall Street's Journal designated Uncle Tom, Jason Riley...laying down the racial hatred on behalf of the under-seige white American majority....

“These looters and rioters do not need to hear from the attorney general that criticism of Obama is race-based,” Riley told host Bret Bauer. “What they need to hear from this Black man in this position — the nation’s leading law enforcement official — is that they need to stay out of trouble with the law. They need to pull up their pants and finish school and take care of their kids. That is the message they need to hear.”

Typical white authoritarian bullshite. But, then....the WSJ, held in high esteem by white profit skimmers everywhere, but another hellishly fascist Rupert Murdoch-owned publication.

To his credit, ABC's Jake Tapper, reported it as he witnessed it,,,,,

"Now I want you to look at what is going on in Ferguson, MO in downtown America. These are armed police, with machine... not machine guns, with semi-automatic rifles, with batons, with shields, many of them dressed for combat. Now why they're doing this, I don't know.

Because there is no threat going on here, none, that merits this. There is none, okay? Absolutely there have been looters, absolutely over the last nine days there has been violence, but there is nothing going on in this street right now that merits this scene out of Bagram. Nothing."

And yet, only one third of white Americans polled think Ferguson police "have gone too far."

What would Ferguson police have to do in order for white Americans to think they've gone too far? Hell-fire missile strikes?

I realize that social progress doesn't follow a straight line. There are periods of gains and periods of backtracking on those gains. Obviously, because of white fear of losing their historic political majority, or because of the daily reminder that a black man twice won the presidency,......our current period has been one of backtracking.

I haven't seen this level of white racism towards blacks since the race riots of the 60's. Yes, it's better now than in the 60's. Overall, America has made progress in race relations.

Yes, this current backsliding period on race relations in America will pass. My generation, a generation who witnessed race riots and white police brutality of blacks in most major cities, a generation which witnessed the evil of a totalitarian military industrial state sending 58,000 young American draftees to their deaths.....still by a wide margin today, vote for fascist conservative Republicans to govern them.

Yes, it's all quite ugly.....and it's likely in the near term to get even uglier.

And yes, I'm ashamed of my white brethren who can watch what's happening in Ferguson and come away believing race is being focused on too much in media coverage and that police in Ferguson have not "gone too far."
