What's the goal? What good can come from it? Why is it always so predictable?
What am I talking about? The pretending.
Americans who pretend as if they don't see what is glaringly obvious.
I could understand the pretending if we were talking about sports teams, or favorite movies. But we're not. We're talking about life and death. Fans of sports and movies often pretend that a sports team, or player, or actor, or movie....are something that they really aren't. That's why those folks are called fans....short for fanatics.
But what happened in Tucson on Saturday is not to be confused with sports or movies.
So, why pretend that all of the violent, revolutionary, hate-filled, divisive stuff we've witnessed from the conservative movement over the last 2 1/2 years....didn't happen....and even if it did, couldn't possibly have anything to do with anyone who actually carries out a violent crime?
Isn't the purpose of using incendiary and violent language and imaging at political events to influence others? If not, then what is the purpose? What is the reason for wearing T-shirts bearing the words..."The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants"? Isn't it to influence others, to communicate to others that conditions are so threatening that violence is all but inevitable against the government?
And damn it all.....if that's not the purpose....then pray tell, what is the purpose? No pretending.
Why did so many from the conservative movement carry loaded weapons to political events? What was the purpose of doing that....other than to portray an imminent threat of violence?
Why the signs that said "we came unarmed, this time"? What is the purpose of signs like that...other than to intimidate and threaten with violence? Why pretend?
What else could Sharron Angle have meant by using the phrase "2nd amendment remedies".....other than what she clearly meant.....if Nevada Tea Party conservatives didn't win at the ballot box, they might have to resort to "2nd amendment remedies", to get what they wanted? Why pretend that she meant anything else?
Why do radio and teevee talking heads repeat over and over again every goddamn day that Obama is America's enemy, he's trying to destroy America, he's not one of us, he's taken our country away from us, ......Obama is America's problem? Why do those talking heads do that every goddamn hour of every goddamn day, if it's not to influence audience members that the U.S. president who was elected in a landslide is, in fact, the "Other" whom all Americans should fear?
I mean, what's the point of pretending about stuff like this? Isn't all of it transparently clear?
Tell me. Why did Gabrielle Giffords Tea Party Republican opponent in the November midterms, Jesse Kelly......promote one of her campaign events by using this ad?......
Do you think that the close proximity of the words...."Help remove" and "shoot".....was freaking coincidental? Why pretend?
Why did Ms. Palin decide to "target" swing districts for the Tea Party movement by using her "crosshair" map? Why did she later refer to those "crosshairs" as "bullseyes"? Why did she throw the word "aim" into the middle of all of that "targeting?"
Why pretend the obvious is not the obvious?
Now to my biggest question.
Even though the miserable, wretched Village sluts will contort themselves into freaking pretzels trying to convince viewers that "both sides are equally guilty"......why deny the fact that for the last 2 1/2 years, almost all the vicious, violent, hate-filled language has come from the conservative movement? Why the hell should anyone pretend that progressives are equally guilty as movement conservatives of spreading revolutionary, violent, threats over the last 2 1/2 years.....when it is transparently obvious that, almost without exception, the violent talk and the hate-filled screeching have come from the right?
Over the weekend, Pima County Sheriff Clarence Dupnik said this....
"I think it is time as a country that we need to do a little soul searching," said the 74-year-old sheriff. "When you look at unbalanced people, how they respond to the vitriol that comes out of certain mouths, tearing down the government. The anger, the hatred, the bigotry that goes on in this country is getting to be outrageous. Unfortunately, Arizona has sort of become the capital, the Mecca for prejudice and bigotry.
"There's reason to believe that this individual may have a mental issue. And I think people who are unbalanced are especially susceptible to vitriol. People tend to pooh-pooh this business about all the vitriol we hear inflaming the American public by people who make a living off of doing that. That may be free speech, but it's not without consequences."
Arizona republican Senator Jon Kyl responded by pretending......
It's probably giving him too much credit to ascribe a coherent political philosophy to him. We just have to acknowledge that there are mentally unstable people in this country. Who knows what motivates them to do what they do? Then they commit terrible crimes like this.
Why does Jon Kyl pretend that the hate-filled, violent, revolutionary language coming, nonstop, from the conservative movement over the last 2 1/2 years....couldn't possibly have anything to do with the political assassination attempt of a Democratic Congresswoman who sought out compromise, voted for health care reform and beat a Tea Party candidate last November?
As the veteran sheriff said....."words have consequences"......why is it that the conservative movement members continue to pretend that they don't?
Must read on this topic.....Tea Party honcho Judson Phillips pretends.
