Wright Comments

By The Reverend Published: March 16, 2008

First: Barack Obama had to denounce, eschew, condemn, criticize, disapprove, censure, decry....AND.....AND.....reject the explosive words of his former pastor, now retired, Jeremiah Wright. To not do so would have marked the beginning of a Drudge and Limbaugh led establishment-right media clusterf*ck attempt to oust him from the presidential race. Obama has renounced and..and..and.....and the usual suck-job cretins are still calling for his political head.

So first.....Obama absolutely HAD to toss Wright to the curb over his ex-pastor's rhetoric.

Now there are those neo-wingers out there, walking hand in hand with the Knee Pad establishment trolls, who say that rejecting the pastor's words is not enough. Wingers state that Obama's response, in rejecting Wright's more controversial comments, are disingenuous.....he didn't go far enough, he wasn't specific enough, he didn't say which vowels and consonants of Wright's he rejected AND according to some more excitable neo-wingers,...he simply lied.

It was enough for John McCain, when rejecting Hagee and other similar white Christian evangelists, to simply say he didn't agree with the views of the more prominent evangelical nutcases....but it's not enough for Obama. That wouldn't be a double standard being applied, because neo-wingers, holding the messy hands of agreeing Knee Padders, SAY IT ISN'T.

Having said all let me blow the whole blog up....

Jeremiah Wright's words were MOSTLY true. The SUBSTANCE of his frenzied methodology of preaching was MOSTLY correct and has been said repeatedly by other political and religious leaders, black, white, conservative or liberal.

Israel/Palestine/South Africa....

“We have supported state terrorism against the Palestinians and black South Africans,” he said, “and now we are indignant because the stuff we have done overseas is now brought right back to our own frontyards.”

President Jimmy Carter has rightfully called Israel's treatment of the Palestinians "apartheid". Of course it is. Israel, because it can, has been terrorizing Palestinians for a good long time now. Any honest truth seeker knows this. Do Palestinians terrorize Israelis? Of course they do. Does the Palestinians' terrorizing of Israel somehow cancel out the fact that Israel terrorizes Palestinians? Not unless the person answering is a fool or a dishonest broker.

Ditto South Africa. America supported white minority control in South Africa as long as we possibly could. To our shame.

The blowback Wright suggested the U.S. was "indignant" about is something Ron Paul spoke extensively about in the freaking REPUBLICAN debates. Foolish and ignorant neo-con responses like, 'they attack us because they hate our freedoms', were always moronic and bankrupt the moment they were spoken. They attack us because we terrorize their lands, resources and people. American imperialism, especially placing U.S. military bases on Muslim lands and waging wars of choice against Muslim countries, as the good doctor Ron Paul elaborated upon, are the reasons they attack us.

So far Jeremiah Wright's alleged inflammatory comments are pretty much mainstream. I don't have to look very far to find that one ex-president agrees and one GOP presidential primary candidate agrees. But neo-wingers have to keep smelling salts nearby know, because they simply can't get over the shock from Wright's words.

Let's move on....

....(Wright) suggested that the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, showed that “America’s chickens are coming home to roost”.

Somehow, if a black pastor suggests the U.S. did something to provoke the 9-11 attack, it becomes a national media orange alert...for Christ's sake. If crazed white pastors say the same....crickets. Jerry (I'm still dead) Falwell, F*ckwad Pat Robertson or John (Catholicism is a big whore) Hagee, can spout on and on about how liberals and homosexuals and abortionists "caused" 9-11 to happen. These opportunistic, white, neo-wingnut agents of hate and division said EXACTLY what Jeremiah Wright said......but those same asshats can endorse and support and kiss McCain's derriere.....without any outrage. Odd, how that works.

Here's another Wright comment that's true...

More recently, he has said that Mr Obama “knows what it means living in a country and a culture that is controlled by rich, white people; Hillary would never know that, Hillary ain’t never been called a nigger”.

Hillary wouldn't know what it's like to be called the n-word. That is a fact. And if there is anyone out there who believes that "rich, white people" DON'T control our country.....there isn't anything I can say that would help them. 'Nose on your face' obvious.

Well, far Jeremiah Wright's words have proved to be accurate and factual. No neo-winger will agree....but then....that's why they're called neo-wingers. Facts and evidence and reason have nothing to do with neo-winger world. This Wright issue is an "opportunity", you know, like those other great "opportunities"....9-11 and Katrina. Something to be exploited, true, false, or sideways....for political gain.

I saved the best for know, being The Reverend and all, I know a bit about this next rhetorical blast by Wright.......

In another sermon he said that the Government “wants us to sing ‘God Bless America’ ” despite treating black people as second-class citizens. “No, no, no,” Mr Wright said, “God damn America!” Link

As an aside here, it's been pointed out that the inane phrase "God bless America" spoken after presidential speeches is a modern phenomenon beginning with, who else, Ronald McDonald. Before Saint Ronnie's time, this obviously religious and stupid speech postlude was viewed as, you know, off limits to a secularly governed nation. Imagine that.

Jeremiah Wright's "God damn America" IS firmly rooted in Biblical exegesis. Here's the Prophet Hosea with just one example......

When the LORD began to speak through Hosea, the LORD said to him, "Go, take to yourself an adulterous wife and children of unfaithfulness, because the land is guilty of the vilest adultery in departing from the LORD."

"Call him Jezreel, because I will soon punish the house of Jehu for the massacre at Jezreel, and I will put an end to the kingdom of Israel. Link

Hosea was saying in an unequivocal manner that God was about to damn Israel, punish the Chosen, for the Chosen's waywardness. Hosea was in effect saying, "God damn Israel". This is all plain from not only Hosea but from many Old Testament prophets. That's what Biblical prophets did. Warned Israel that God was about to damn the Chosen.

Those great modern Biblical prophets (I'm still dead) Falwell and (I had a vision) Robertson exercised their prophetic powers (curiously after the fact) when they damned America, you know, retroactively...after 9-11. It was a "God damned America" explanation after the damning these white Chrsitian preachers' heads. White Christian preachers stated repeatedly that God had DAMNED America with the events of 9-11. Liberals, abortionists, feminists, gays.....were, naturally, the reason these white Christian preachers gave for God DAMNING America....but without doubt.....that's what these white Christian preachers were saying.

Summary of the "God damn America" comment by Wright: It is Biblical in it's foundation. Rooted in the prophets of Judaism. The same declarations came out of the mouths of many white far-right evangelicals after 9-11. The same declarations come out of Christian worship services every week all across this country. Wright was in no way breaking new ground with his comments.

The Reverend's take:

The substance of Wright's rhetoric was accurate. His words have only been made into a crisis because he's a black preacher who brings up white America's terrible past. Whites don't like being reminded of their sins, past or current. It's a corollary of the American exceptionalism fiction: Whites are exceptional. Wright's words of clarity reminded whites they're not exceptional.

This guilt by association attempt is racist based. White pastors can spout similar, or worse, comments, and the usual suspects don't faint dead away. A black Christian pastor, Obama's black Christian pastor, says the same stuff......and Obama must prostrate himself in order to be whipped by self-righteous hypocrites.

This is only the beginning by the anti-American, anti-tolerance white status quo. As I have said many times.....this summer and particularly, this fall, America will show the world it's darker and uglier side. Craven media pr*cks partnering with craven neo-wingers and directed by the sleazeball criminal Karl Rove, will tear every divisive scab off they can find, damaging the nation in the process, in their ruthless and criminal attempts to "win".

A nation that tortures can act no other way.
