"Inviting Suspicions"

By The Reverend Published: May 24, 2015

Which of these two examples "invites suspicions"?

1) You are hired to provide a perform the are paid a hefty sum for the service as agreed upon before hand.

2) You are running for federal office.....and a couple of billionaires "donate" hundreds of millions of dollars to your campaign without you doing anything that would justify such large "donations".

Number 1 describes what happens every day in a supply and demand economy where millions and millions of human beings every day are paid for requested services.

No....NSA Program Is Not Keeping Americans Safe

By The Reverend Published: May 23, 2015

The official propaganda on the failure of the Senate to renew the NSA's hoovering of metadata-program late last night....

“We’ve got a week to discuss it. We’ll have one day to do it,” he (Mitch McConnell) added. “But we’d better get ready next Sunday afternoon to prevent the country from the danger by the total expiration of the program.”

Attorney General Loretta Lynch warned in an interview Thursday with CBS News that the U.S. will be "less safe" if Congress fails to reauthorize the National Security Agency's telephone data collection program and other surveillance tools that are set to expire on June 1.

"Without congressional action, it expires and we go dark," Rep. Michael McCaul, R-Texas, said at a reporters breakfast hosted by The Christian Science Monitor. "And that is a danger to the American people."

Forcing The CBO To Convert To The Voodoo

By The Reverend Published: May 22, 2015

What is "dynamic scoring"?

Dynamic scoring predicts the impact of fiscal policy changes by forecasting the effects of economic agents' reactions to incentives created by policy.

The GOP House has already embraced dynamic scoring. Yesterday, Jeb Bush embraced it as well....

"The House has done this and I think it's the right thing," Bush said in New Hampshire on Thursday. He went on to praise House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Paul Ryan (R-WI), who, in Sept 2014, actually floated the idea that the CBO adopt dynamic scoring.

Evil Men

By The Reverend Published: May 21, 2015

Because lies seem to never die.....and liars never stop lying, it is necessary to review two aspects of the Iraq adventure which are now being falsely used by presidential candidates and usual-suspect neo-con assholes to defend W's indefensible crime and blame Obama for turning a "victory" into a "defeat."

The first is McGrampy's personal pet project....."the surge." We're still being told that after 4 years of combat and a 100,000 U.S. troop occupation of Iraq, only because of surging 30,000 more U.S. troops in 2007, the U.S. finally prevailed and Iraq was saved for Jeffersonian democracy.

That narrative is, of course, mythological.

The first goal (of the 2007 surge) was to bring the level of violence down by increasing U.S. force levels in key areas, forging a tactical alliance with cooperative Sunni groups, and shifting to a counterinsurgency strategy that emphasized population protection. This aspect of the surge succeeded, though it is still hard to know how much of the progress was due to increased force levels and improved tactics and how much was due to other developments, such as the prior “ethnic cleansing” that had separated the contending groups.

Trickle-Down Trade Agreements

By The Reverend Published: May 21, 2015

You see, the reason Americans should favor massive and secretly constructed trade deals is because of the "trickle-down" benefits.....

There is a bipartisan consensus on the benefits of free trade to the entire U.S. economy. An open letter urging the renewal of TPA was signed by former chairs of the President’s Council of Economic Advisers under Presidents Gerald Ford, Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan, George H. W. Bush, Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, and Barack Obama. They argue that “economy-wide benefits resulting from increased trade provide resources to make progress on important social goals, including helping those who are adversely affected,” through measures such as providing expanded opportunities for education to retrain individuals who have lost their jobs to outsourcing.

Let me see if I understand. The U.S. should encourage and celebrate trade deals which will cost even more U.S. jobs....BECAUSE....huge multinational, U.S. corporations will benefit greatly from those deals, thus paying more in taxes, which can be used to retrain workers who lost their jobs because deals.

And people dare to call me crazy.

It should be clear to many that we're witnessing the disintegration of the U.S. democratic republic. Disgust is not a strong enough word to describe what I've been witnessing these past few years. I do not mention this because of one specific incident. It's the totality of what I'm witnessing that informs me that whatever lights are still shining from that infamous "shining city on a hill".....they will soon burn out under the massive corruption, greed, and deception which now characterizes most of our once-praiseworthy institutions.

Some may wonder what I really think. Well, that's it.

To illustrate, using but one of hundreds of examples I could set forth, here's my question.

What is it exactly that Jeb Bush is doing?

Can Kicking & More Politcal Theater: USA Freedom Act Edition

By The Reverend Published: May 20, 2015

The 4th amendment to the U.S. Constitution.....

The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.

To make a point here....let me suggest a hypothetical.

In order to keep us, you know, safe....the U.S. Congress passes a law which allows FBI employees to record every piece of mail distributed by the U.S. Post Office. Who sent the pieces of mail, who received the pieces of mail and when the mail was sent and received would be recorded by FBI agents. The information, let's call it metamail data, would be stored away in huge data storage centers where other government intelligence agencies could run that data through sophisticated computer algorithm programs looking for patterns. The FBI doesn't open any mail or read any mail...instead, they only record who sent and who received the mail. And all of this is done without probable cause and without judicial warrants.

Trade Trickery

By The Reverend Published: May 19, 2015

The trade issue has made unlikely allies of the Republican majority leader and the Democratic president. McConnell said on Sunday that Obama has “done an excellent job” on the trade issue.

The man who obstructed basically everything a Democratically controlled Senate offered up from 2010 through now praising the Democratic president for capitulating to the desires of the GOP....and the 1%.

"President Obama has done his country a service by taking on his base and pushing back on some of the more ridiculous rhetoric we've heard," McConnell told ABC's George Stephanopoulos Sunday on "This Week."

"Yes, we'll pass it. We'll pass it later this week," he said.

Waco Bikers & White Culture

By The Reverend Published: May 18, 2015

By now you probably know about the great exercise of 2nd amendment rights that took place inside, and outside, of the Twin Peaks restaurant in Waco, Texas. As usual, those 2nd amendment-haters are taking the opportunity to rally for sensible gun control....and The Hill, a bastion of conservative rightness, is on the job putting out articles, not so much about the gun violence that took place at Twin Peaks, but about those pesky and irritating Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, who, foolishly, are calling the Waco gun violence "a wakeup call." How silly, those moms are.

The Moms Demand Action group doesn't fully appreciate the freedoms we enjoy here in the most exceptional nation evah, and by this tweet from them...."stop taking orders from gun lobby; listen to police and constituents" their ignorance of what makes America so exceptional.

The fact that on a daily basis Americans can, and do, exercise their 2nd amendment rights....and kill or injure other Americans, or a big part of what makes the U.S. so free and unique in the world.

And tell me, what would be so exceptional about America if elected officials quit "taking orders from the gun lobby", or any other lobbying group for that matter? Elected officials taking orders from big corporate lobbying groups is how our uniquely American system works. Corporations and billionaires pay for candidates' campaigns so that those candidates can win elections...and then when those candidates win, it's only right that the elected officials, then, take orders from the lobbyists who also work for those corporations and billionaires. Think about it. How could it be any other way?

GOP Candidates Still Pushing Phony Iraq Narrative

By The Reverend Published: May 18, 2015

I'm finding it a twisted way, naturally....watching Jeb Bush and Marco Rubio step all over their own dinghuses (dinghi?) attempting to answer questions about Iraq.

But that's what will inevitably happen to "first tier" GOP 2016 candidates who, twelve years after the fact, insist on relying on a completely false narrative of how the Bush 2 administration arrived at their decision to wage pre-emptive war against the non-threatening country of Iraq.

Republican revisionists, long ago, decided to exonerate Commander Codpiece of all war-crime and treason charges by relying on one dishonest escape hatch. That it was the "faulty intelligence" processed by faceless and nameless intelligence gatherers....who were to be blamed for W's final decision to invade Iraq. Whenever Republicans respond with the "mistakes were made" answer to questions about the decision in March 2003 to invade and occupy Iraq, they are blaming those nameless and faceless intelligence gatherers for convincing the blameless Bush that his case for pre-emptive war was justified.

Two examples will suffice to demonstrate that Republican revisionists.....and leading 2016 GOP candidates.....are full of it.
