Voter turnout in the 2014 midterms was at a 70 year low.
Turnout of the voting-eligible population was just 36.4 percent,...That’s down from the 41 percent that turned out in 2010. You have to go all the way back to 1942 for lower numbers when turnout in that midterm was just 33.9 percent.
Disapproval ratings of Congress are running close to 80%......which means that 8 out of 10 Americans disapprove of the job Congress is doing.
While the approval rating of Congress hasn't moved off of it's 16% levels since the midterms, Obama's approval rating has gone up measurably since the midterms. To read more or comment...
House Speaker John Boehner has invited Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to speak to a joint session of Congress next month. Boehner simultaneously pushed back on Obama’s plea for Congress to delay more sanctions against Iran. The invitation for Netanyahu, which came just a day after the president’s address to Congress, would have the speech take place on February 11. Boehner privately told the Republican caucus that his response to Obama’s plea was, “Hell, no.”
Netanyahu wasn't invited to the French "solidarity" bash the other weekend....and decided to come anyway. So, maybe Boehner didn't need to invite Bibi to speak before Congress. Maybe, Bibi can just show up whenever he wants, and everyone will simply accommodate him. Don't know. Maybe.
What I do know is that quite a few congressional members want to start a war with Iran. Isn't that just what we need to do? I mean, rather than negotiating an agreement with Iran over enrichment of uranium...what the U.S. really needs to do is some more shock and awe. Wouldn't you agree?
And THAT my blog friends is why Bibi is being invited to speak to a joint session of Congress. To derail those peaceful negotiations with Iran. To overrule the U.S. Commander in Chief. You know, the lawless Obama. You see, Republican majorities in Congress are demonstrating to the American people that they can govern responsibly...instead of just phucking everything up, like they have done the last 4 years. To read more or comment...
There were no surprises in President Obama's SOTU address last night. Transcript here. I doubt whether any of his proposals will see the light of day.....but it was a good speech without too many lies included.
But now that the occasion of the SOTU address has become a free-for-all night where numerous Republicans and conservative cranks must also be heard from in speeches allegedly responding to the president's speech.....I found GOP Senator Rand Paul's 15 minute "response" last night interesting.
"The best thing that could happen is for us to limit the terms of all politicians...."
Paul reminded that the U.S. (to it's shame) has already limited the number of terms a president can run ....and that the same approach should be taken with members of Congress. To read more or comment...
It has become proper etiquette now within both Democratic and Republican camps to speak about America's huge income inequality problem by referring to the problem as something other than what it is....income inequality. The words income inequality imply that incomes are in need of equalizing.....and that sounds socialistic.....thus the need for new and bipartisan etiquette rules which encourage the Serious to speak about our nation's increasing income gap between the haves and have-nots as something other than what it is. It's the damnest thing.
Instead of income inequality.....the Serious refer to the problem as "opportunity inequality." See how it's done? "Income" has a totally different meaning than "opportunity".....and so by changing what we label the problem, we change the problem.
It is not that the 90%+ of Americans who have not seen a raise in their purchasing power in 30 years didn't have "opportunity" over those 30 years. It's that over those 30 years their "income" has fallen more and more unequal as compared to the top 1%.
Allow me to illustrate....To read more or comment...
Tomorrow night, among other things, President Obama will suggest increasing capital gains tax rates on America's wealthiest citizens as a corrective step in confronting the radical income disparity that has been hollowing out what has been called the American Dream.
Under the plan, the capital gains tax for couples with income over $500,000 per year would be raised from its current level of 23.8 percent up to 28. The plan would also strip a tax break, known as a "step-up," that allows heirs to avoid capital gains taxes on large inheritances.
There is little hope for anything even as modest as an increase of 4.2% on millionaire capital gains tax rates passing the GOP controlled Congress. But any discussion on Obama's suggested tax increase might help to sharpen the distinctions between Democrats and Republicans heading into 2016.
As you might expect, the Villagers are melting down in real time over Obama's scandalous suggestion on capital gains tax rates. After consuming several poutrages from those representing the 1%, I am getting the impression that these Smart Insiders are.....dare I say it.....dishonest bitches. To read more or comment...
Have you heard about the no-go-zones in Europe? Hottest, trendiest new thing. All the kewlest have been talking about them.
I thought today would be an appropriate day to examine these hot, trendy, new sources of Foxian anxiety. Why? Because many of the same folks who, today, will be mouthing complimentary words about Martin Luther King.....have been very busy in the past week stirring up new discriminatory hate against a different minority demographic.....Muslims.
Anyway, the concept of European no-go-zones.....alleged Muslim ghettos where authorities and non-Muslims stay away because they are just too dangerous.....originated in 2006 in the mind of Daniel Pipes. Pipes is president of something called the Middle East Forum, and has been one of the leading proponents of what is known in America as Islamophobia over the last 15 years.
Pipes made many appearances on corporate teevee during the War Years of Commander Codpiece....spreading his version of hate-speech directed at Islam and Muslims. A peach of a guy, he isn't.To read more or comment...
During the 2011-2012 election cycle, Republicans held some 20 or 21 GOP presidential candidate "debates." After Monopoly Mitt went down to defeat, the number of GOP debates was pointed to by Reince Priebus, and others, as one of the reasons why Mitt lost.
I always found that correlation odd. It would seem to me, and what do I know, that in politics, especially campaign politics, there is no such thing as over exposure. The more often your party's candidates are in front of potential voters, answering questions, explaining their views, etc.....the better.
Like I mentioned....what do I know? The Priebus announced the 2015-2016 GOP "debate" schedule just the other day....and you'll be pleased to know that Republican candidates for the presidency will not be over-exposed, like last time.
Nine "debates" are scheduled with the possibility of 3 more....To read more or comment...
Just wanted to post a working link to the video of the alleged assassination headshot of the French policeman by one of the two Kouachi brothers. Yesterday, when I searched, YouTube/Google had removed the video from several of what looked like available linked sites...with claims of graphic or gruesome content. In the slow motion portion of the video the gunman clearly misses the head of the policeman. The AK-47 bullet, instead, ricochets off the concrete pavement......with a bit of dust kicked up.
Some have argued that the alleged "kill" bullet to the head passed through the cop's head and then struck the concrete street. But there's no blood, no nothing, Further, the policeman's head....at least as observed in the slow-mo portion.....isn't phased one iota by this alleged killshot. No flinching, no movement, no nothing.
So, I have no idea what the hell was going on in that video.....but something here is not quite right.
I have one more observation. Who took that video? From the angle, it appears as if the video was shot from the roof. How was it that someone knew to capture the video from up on the roof......on an incident that lasted only about 60 seconds? To read more or comment...
I wonder what all those 180,000 Facebook followers of the Brimfield Police Chief think now.
Sure, the boy's book was a best seller. But, sorry, that 6 year old didn't really die, go to heaven, and then come back. He lied. What a shock.
That sets the stage for Ron Paul's claim that the Charlie Hebdo attack was a false flag operation. To read more or comment...
Remember the anthrax attacks in October, 2001? Scary, right? Killed some people. Targeted congressional members.
And never solved.
But the timing of those anthrax attacks fell right when Congress was debating passage of the Patriot Act. In the midst of all those anthrax-laced letters being mailed by.....still don't know.....Congress passed the Patriot Act on Oct.23, 2001 and W. signed it into law Oct. 26, 2001.
That timing was no coincidence in my opinion. But that's a discussion for another day.To read more or comment...
