Trump Now Accused Of Being 9-11 Truther

By The Reverend Published: February 14, 2016

The "9-11 Truther" accusations are already flying around in faith-based land. In between arguing over Supreme Court Justice replacements this week, expect a chorus of Trump-denunciations over what he said about George W Bush, 9-11, and Iraq at last night's Clown-ShoutFest. Here are the important quotes to know about....

Question: In 2008, in an interview with Wolf Blitzer, talking about President George W. Bush's conduct of the war, you said you were surprised that Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi didn't try to impeach him.

You said, quote: "which personally I think would have been a wonderful thing." When you were asked what you meant by that and you said: "For the war, for the war, he lied, he got us into the war with lies." Do you still believe President Bush should have been impeached?

Trump: (Avoiding answering the "impeachment" part of the question) Obviously, the war in Iraq was a big, fat mistake.....George Bush made a mistake. We can make mistakes. But that one was a beauty. We should have never been in Iraq. We have destabilized the Middle East.....They lied. They said there were weapons of mass destruction, there were none. And they knew there were none. There were no weapons of mass destruction.

Scalia's Gone.....Replacement Uncertain

By The Reverend Published: February 14, 2016

Personally, I'm glad he's gone.....yes, that's what I said.....but the death of 79 year-old Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia yesterday has just raised the stakes of this fall's election to historic levels.

According to the pieces I've seen so far, only one of six GOP Clown candidates in last night's GOP Clown Gathering, South Carolina......thinks President Obama should nominate Scalia's replacement. Jeb Bush agreed that Obama should put forward a replacement.....the other five, Trump, Cruz, Rubio, Kasich and Carson all said the country should wait to replace Scalia until after the next president is elected.

Yesterday, President Obama said he would nominate a replacement...soon.

Republicans control the Senate, where Supreme Court nominations are voted upon, and Mitch McConnell, Majority Leader of the Senate, said this yesterday...

Authentically Duplicitous

By The Reverend Published: February 13, 2016

I've already mentioned the totally disingenuous message coming from GOP Clown Candidates which blames Latino immigration for the low wages and lack of employment opportunities throughout the nation. It's total poppycock, of course, but it is a handy distraction for the GOP to use to divert attention away from decades of pro-rich, pro-business policies which have sent good-paying jobs overseas and kept U.S. worker-wages low.

Additionally. I have been hearing GOP Clowns talking about their plans to "grow" the economy by, you know, cutting taxes on business and the wealthy, and gutting regulations....promising that doing so will increase the wages of average workers. That, despite the fact that, since 1973, as taxes on the wealthy have been cut in half, average wages have remained flatlined.

Yesterday, out of West Virginia, comes an example of what the GOP REALLY has in mind for the nation's economy.....

The West Virginia Legislature overrode Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin’s vetoes Friday of two highly contentious pieces of legislation that Republicans argue are pro-growth and Democrats argue will harm workers and lower wages. West Virginia will become a right-to-work state on July 1, 2016, and the state’s prevailing wage will be repealed 90 days from when the bill is enrolled, sometime in mid-May.

PBS Questioners: Whites Fear Government & Immigrants

By The Reverend Published: February 12, 2016

PBS Democratic debate transcript between Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton found here.

The PBS debate was short. It was moderated by Gwen Ifill and Judy Woodruff....both veterans of Village media. It was no surprise, then, when the debate kicked off with centrist, corporate-friendly drivel like this....

Question to Hillary: You may remember this pledge from a State of the Union Address at which I believe you were present, in which these words were said: "The era of big government is over." You may remember that.

When asked your feelings about the federal government this week, 61 percent of New Hampshire Democrats told exit pollsters that they are angry or at least dissatisfied. Given what you and Senator Sanders are proposing, an expanding government in almost every area of our lives, is it fair for Americans who fear government to fear you?

"Retail Politics" + Very Poor Planning

By The Reverend Published: February 11, 2016

Couple of thoughts.....

Chris Christie made 176 "retail politicking" stops in New Hampshire, second only to John Kasich's 180. Donald Trump held only 39 events in the Granite state.

You may have heard the yakkers talking Seriously about the essential nature of meeting with small groups of voters, taking questions, order to "win" over voters to one's candidacy. Yakkers refer to this as doing "retail politics"....and they have been explaining that that is what the two earliest primary states are all about. Iowa and New Hampshire primary voters, it has been said, are special, somehow. What primary candidates must do in order to win those voters, we have been told, is to press-the-flesh at smallish and more intimate gatherings, as they "criss-cross" the state, seemingly, like they are rushing to put out a fire.

With Trump's rather big win in New Hampshire on Tuesday, it would seem that this notion of the essential nature of "retail politicking" might just be another heaping, steaming pile of traditional nonsense.

The New Definition Of A "Moderate"

By The Reverend Published: February 11, 2016

Reuters....Feb 2....the day after the Iowa caucuses....

Rubio's performance will strengthen his argument that supporters of other moderate, establishment candidates such as former Florida Governor Jeb Bush, New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, and Ohio governor John Kasich should throw their support, and their money, behind him.

Fox "News"....yesterday...

Ohio Republican Gov. John Kasich vowed Wednesday to stick to his moderate message, as he arrived in South Carolina drawing sizeable crowds following a strong second-place finish in New Hampshire.

New Hampshire Final Numbers

By The Reverend Published: February 10, 2016

I wanted to get this on a blog before I forgot. Here are the totals from the New Hampshire primaries. What is quite remarkable is that the number of votes for Bernie Sanders last night exceeded the total of votes that Trump and Kasich COMBINED received.

Republicans Votes Percent Del. (100%)
Trump 100,406
Kasich 44,909
Cruz 33,189
Bush 31,310
Rubio 30,032
Christie 21,069
Fiorina 11,706
Carson 6,509

Democrats Votes Percent Del. (100%)
Sanders 151,584
Clinton 95,252

One other note. As I expected, Fiorina and Christie have now dropped out.

I heard this morning that exit polling out of New Hampshire revealed that 90% of GOP voters there said they were "angry." At the same time, only 10% of exit-polled Democrats said they were "angry." Democratic voters told exit pollers they were more "frustrated" than "angry."

Permit me to take a stab at explaining why 'both sides' are not approaching their primary precincts with the same state of mind. In that explanation, narrative is everything.

While it is true that few conservatives or Republicans ever admitted it at the time, George W. Bush's presidency was an unmitigated disaster. W's favorable numbers have rebounded among Republicans since 2009, but he left office in the low-to-middle 30's.....the lowest I can remember for a two-term president. For comparison purposes, today Obama's approval numbers are right around 46%.

In 2008 Democratic voters were confronted with two solid candidates to choose from....Hillary and Obama. Republicans offered up the moderate maverick, John McCain in 2008 and then, 4 years later, Mitt Romney in 2012, a man who was the architect of a statewide universal health insurance program from which Obamacare was patterned. Obama won easily both times.

So, That Happened.....Now What?

By The Reverend Published: February 10, 2016

With 89% of New Hampshire precincts counted.....

Bernie Sanders defeated Hillary Clinton.....and it wasn't close....60% to 38.4%. A 21.6 percent spread.

On the GOP side, Trump won big....35.1% over second place finisher John Kasich at 15.9%....a 19.2% spread. Ted Cruz came in third with 11.6%, Jeb! in fourth at 11.1%, Rubio in fifth with 10.6% and Christie in sixth with 7.5%.

Polls before the primary were relatively accurate, more accurate than the polls before Iowa.....but then New Hampshire held a primary, not a caucus.

The Mystery Of Rubio's 4-Peat Solved!

By The Reverend Published: February 9, 2016

Marco Rubio has been getting hammered by almost everyone after he repeated, some say in robotic fashion, the same line four times in Saturday night's 8th Clown Show "debate". No one seems to be able to explain why Rubio used what seemed like a memorized talking point so many times. Even a guy whom I have some respect for....some....Eugene Robinson, took a stab at an explanation here.....asserting that....

He couldn't come up with a way to defend a negligible record and he had nothing to say beyond what he had planned to say.

From the other side comes the dullard Erick Erickson, who, as usual, misses the entire point to play the conservative movement's victim card....

Along come Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio who both relentlessly stay on message and the GOP have decided one is unlikable and the other is a robot. It is all nonsense.
