Trump's Unifying Theme

By The Reverend Published: January 17, 2017

On occasion, I listen to some of the Glenn Beck radio program. I see Beck as simply a self-aggrandizing money grubber, a truly jaded character who cynically exploits his audience. His 'history lessons' are shite.....and his religious sanctimony repellent and offensive. That said....here's what Beck said about Trump's closest White House advisor, Steve Bannon.....

"Steve Bannon wants to burn it down," said Beck, who has been a fierce Trump critic since the billionaire first launched his campaign.

"He's a nightmare," Beck continued. "And he's the chief adviser to the President of the United States now."

Beck got that one right....the "burn it all down" part....but that was just one rather unhinged man's opinion. Here's Mr. Bannon, in his own words....

Best Way Today For Whites To Honor MLK

By The Reverend Published: January 16, 2017

This is MLK Day....when many insincere white Americans pretend that Martin Luther King Jr.'s life's work is worthy of celebration. I came of age during the 60's....so I KNOW how whites, then, regarded MLK. And while America HAS made progress in race-relations since that time, I think it's obvious from the last couple of years that the spirit of white resistance to MLK that I witnessed as a younger Reverend is still very much with us in 2017,

I thought that today would be a good opportunity to share something I saw while visiting my mother, who, at the time, was watching a 1950's-made movie on Turner Classics. The movie featured legendary dancer, Fred Astaire. Silly stuff by today's standards, really, but I was quite surprised (don't know why) to see Astaire dress in "blackface" for his final dance scene.

So, when I got home, I researched the history of dressing in "blackface". That research led me to this website. I think there is no better way for white Americans to honor the legacy of MLK today than to be reminded of this atrocious practice of dressing in "blackface". Take the time today....go to the site and be reminded of our recent history. It will be a sobering exercise....or at least should be.

White America's conceptions of Black entertainers were shaped by minstrelsy's mocking caricatures and for over one hundred years the belief that Blacks were racially and socially inferior was fostered by legions of both white and black performers in blackface.

Trump's Methodical Madness

By The Reverend Published: January 16, 2017

From the state-run Chinese media outlet, Global Times of China....

“Trump’s thinking about China is becoming increasingly clear: He wants China to make huge economic and trade concessions to the U.S. To achieve that, he is willing to stir certain calm areas in China-U.S. relations, including treating the Taiwan issues as his trump card,” the editorial outlined, according to CNN’s John Berman. “We were simply angry initially, but now we can’t help but laugh at this U.S. leader-in-waiting. Maybe American voters ‘promoted’ him too quickly, his amateur remarks and over-confident manner are equally shocking.”

Outgoing CIA Director John Brennan appeared on Fox "News" yesterday and was asked about Trump's referring to our intelligence agencies as "Nazi Germany"....

"I do take great umbrage at that, and there is no basis for Mr. Trump to point fingers at the intelligence community for leaking information that was already available publicly," Brennan said.

In 5 Days, The Surreal Becomes The Real

By The Reverend Published: January 15, 2017

It's all do depressing.

Michael Moore packs a lot into this statement....

“The Russians interfered with the election in order to get him elected. Even Trump now admits as much. That alone makes the election tainted and should be voided. We spend trillions on ridiculous weapons and ineffective police state-style homeland security measures to defend us against those who would ‘destroy our way of life’ — but we are to remain silent when a foreign government is caught trying to get THEIR candidate elected as OUR president? AND they succeed! This is a joke of monstrous proportions — and the fact that conservatives, Republicans and patriotic good ol’ boys are actively defending this foreign aggression into our country confirms to me what I’ve feared all along: that they really hate our form of democracy, our Bill of Rights, our belief that ‘All men (sic) are created equal,’ our one person-one vote system, that whoever scores the most points wins and that people of all religions are welcome here. They don’t believe that, and I’d respect them so much more if they would just simply admit it.”

37% of Republican voters approve of Vlad Putin. 17% of Republican voters approve of Barack Obama.

Desperately Clinging To His White Nationalist Base

By The Reverend Published: January 14, 2017

So, black civil rights veteran and U.S. Democratic House Representative, John Lewis, had the audacity to state publicly what tens of millions of U.S. voters already believe to be true....

In an exclusive interview with NBC News' "Meet the Press," Rep. John Lewis, D-Ga., said he does not believe Donald Trump is a "legitimate president," citing Russian interference in last year's election.

Asked whether he would try to forge a relationship with the president-elect, Lewis said that he believes in forgiveness, but added, "it's going to be very difficult. I don't see this president-elect as a legitimate president."

Lewis said nothing about the Democratic presidential nominee's 2.91 million popular vote win...instead, Lewis pointed to "Russian interference in last year's election"...as the reason for Trump's "illegitimacy".

The Hits Just Keep Coming

By The Reverend Published: January 14, 2017

James Comey took questions from House members in a closed session hearing yesterday. It didn't go well.

A number of House Democrats left Friday's confidential briefing on Russian hacking fuming over the actions of FBI Director James Comey and convinced he's unfit to lead the agency.

"I was nonjudgmental until the last 15 minutes. I no longer have that confidence in him," Rep. Tim Walz (D-Minn.), ranking member of the Veterans Affairs Committee, said as he left the meeting in the Capitol.

"Some of the things that were revealed in this classified briefing — my confidence has been shook."

More Disturbing Every Day

By The Reverend Published: January 13, 2017

Once again, Mr. Trump has proven how sincere he is about looking out for the average American blue collar worker....

Anthony Scaramucci, a prominent investor and member of President-elect Donald Trump's presidential campaign finance team, has been tapped for a high-level White House role, The Washington Post reported Thursday.

While the position hasn't been officially announced, sources close to the Trump transition told the Post that Scaramucci will take over the Office of Public Engagement and Intergovernmental Affairs, a powerful role currently held by Obama ally Valerie Jarrett.

He started his career at Goldman Sachs and is the sixth person with Goldman roots to join the White House.

Today's Crazy

By The Reverend Published: January 12, 2017

One of the most often heard criticisms of the ACA by Republicans has been that the legislation was not bipartisanly passed. Somehow, because 60 Democratic Senators voted for Obamacare without one Republican Senator doing so....that made the bill illegitimate.

Along with that criticism, various Republicans have suggested that the ACA was "rammed through" by Democrats. I'm sure you've heard both of those GOP takes....and most likely, numerous times.

Very late last night....

After debating seven hours through the night, the Senate voted early Thursday to take the first real step toward repealing Obamacare — a top goal of congressional Republicans and President-elect Donald Trump.

Subtle Disinformation

By The Reverend Published: January 12, 2017

As I have mentioned in my last couple of posts....what should be of primary concern when considering the Trump-Russian connection is the claim by intelligence officials that members of the Trump campaign actually coordinated with Russian officials....during the U.S. presidential campaign.

And I have also suggested that main media would focus on the more salacious details of an unsubstantiated "dossier" from a former MI6 agent...rather than on the Trump-coordinated-with-Russians issue.

Here's a portion of a front pager this morning at the Washington Post....

The dossier was provided to multiple news outlets, including The Washington Post, which pursued numerous leads, including overseas, but could not substantiate its allegations.

More On Possible Trumpian Treason

By The Reverend Published: January 11, 2017

From early reporting, Trump's press conference was simply Trump being Trump. My interest in what he said today, however, is limited to any remarks about his campaign's coordination with Russians. To that extremely significant topic.....Trump was silent.

HuffPo.....

Trump has for months disputed the notion that Russian leader Vladimir Putin had anything to do with theft of emails from the Democratic Party and the campaign of his election opponent, Hillary Clinton. Wednesday was the first time he publicly acknowledged, “I think it was Russia,” although he later said it could have been other countries as well.

Trump was asked to state whether he could definitively say that no one from his campaign worked with Russia in the runup to the election. Trump answered that Putin should not have meddled in the campaign and that he wouldn’t do it in the future because he would now respect the United States, but failed to answer the question about coordination.
