That didn't take long. Fox's Todd Starnes....

"Record-breaking floods have inundated Washington, D.C. just days after the Supreme Court decided they knew better than God. I seem to remember another time in history when there was a record-breaking flood." He added: "God painted the sky with rainbow colors after that flood. This go-around - Obama painted the White House with rainbow colors. Anybody got an ark?"

Conveniently, conservatives have now found their response to all future questions over weather calamities caused through the process of a warming planet. And it has nothing to do with greenhouse gases, CO2 emissions or mankind's addiction to burning fossil fuels. Also, too...forget that consensus of climate scientists.

If you pay attention to comments like those of Todd Starnes moving forward, you'll be privileged to watch a new myth created in real time and out of whole gay marriage cloth. It's not global climate change, you see, that will be causing sea level rises and heavier rainfalls and more powerful storms.....it's god pulling back his protective hand from America for legalizing gay marriages.

No Specific Threat, No Credible Evidence...Just Be Scared

Last Friday...

Federal authorities have warned local law enforcement officials across the country about a heightened concern involving possible terror attacks targeting the July 4th holiday, a U.S. law enforcement official said.

While there was no specific or credible threat of attack, the official said the intelligence bulletin prepared by the Department of Homeland Security and the FBI alerted local colleagues to the ongoing threats posed by the Islamic State and other homegrown extremists. The official was not authorized to comment publicly.

In a statement Friday following attacks in Tunisia, France and Kuwait, DHS Secretary Jeh Johnson said local law enforcement was being encouraged to be "vigilant and prepared'' in preparation for July 4th celebrations.

The Morality Tale Within The Greek Crisis

What Greece is faced with this coming weekend is, again, a choice. Surrender to a future dictated by bond traders, banksters and EU politicians who insist that balancing the bean counting books for the sake of "investors" takes precedent over the lives of Greek citizens....or....flip those banksters and bean counters the bird and vote against the "austerity...now and forever" proposal, renege on their debt, flee the EU and the euro....and start over. Neither choice is a good one.

The Greek crisis will give U.S. skimmers a great opportunity to gut American workers' 401K's this week, although as of this moment, the DOW is only off some 130 points....so we'll see.

What seems completely off-kilter in the Greek economic crisis is how it is representative of what elitists in finance and politics have been encouraging for the economies of many countries in the wake of the Great Bankster Caper.

The Afterglow

Part of Justice Samuel Alito's dissent in yesterday's gay marriage ruling....

“The majority attempts, toward the end of its opinion, to reassure those who oppose same-sex marriage that their rights of conscience will be protected,” Alito argued. “We will soon see whether this proves to be true. I assume that those who cling to old beliefs will be able to whisper their thoughts in the recesses of their homes, but if they repeat those views in public, they will risk being labeled as bigots and treated as such by governments, employers, and schools.”

Stripsearch Sammy's most pressing concern moving forward is that a supposed right to discriminate against gay Americans or gay couples will be, somehow, preserved. I find that astounding....but damn if that isn't what Sammy wrote in his bitter dissent.

Immediately, GOP presidential candidates followed Alito's lead.....

I Heard The News Today...Oh, Boy

5-4 in favor of striking down state gay marriage bans. Kennedy wrote the majority opinion, as expected, following his work in striking down DOMA. Kennedy gets it. He realizes that, outside of superstitious views based on myths, there is no reasonable argument based on law, in this case the 14th amendment, for states purposely banning gays from marrying. Here is section 1 of the 14th....

All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the state wherein they reside. No state shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any state deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.

Redstate and National Review writers are going nutzoid. I'll have more later on this, but the immediate question now for GOP Clown Candidates is 'do you think the recent Supreme Court majority opinion legalizing gay marriage nationally was decided correctly based as it was on "equal protection of the laws...and if not, why not?"

Some conservatives are arguing Kennedy's opinion was based on emotion. It wasn't. It was based on the 14th amendment. The state has no interest in excluding gay Americans from gaining access to marriage rights. In fact, diametrically, the 14th amendment, finally, has been properly applied to this issue once and for all. It is unconstitutional on the basis of the 14th amendment to single out anyone, let alone the dastardliness of singling out just gay Americans, for unequal treatment under the law.

6-3 Ruling For Susidies Sends Scalia Over The Edge

It was 6-3, just as I predicted. The case of Burwell v King should have never reached the Supreme Court. It was nothing less than astonishing that it did. But in the end, the frivolous suit brought by the conservative plaintiff stooges over sentence syntax concerning government subsidies only left a favorable impression on the predictable Alito, Thomas and Scalia.

The Twitter thing is lit up with nay-saying GOP Clown Candidates denouncing the decision....hardly a surprise. But take the time to read this Politico piece on the ruling. Talk about sore losers. The Politico writer didn't even try to camouflage her hurt feelings over the ruling.

John Roberts wrote the decision, and as I expected, the core issue turned out to be the intent of the ACA law.....not the sentence syntax of four words in the law....

"Congress passed the Affordable Care Act to improve health insurance markets, not to destroy them," Roberts wrote in the majority opinion. "If at all possible, we must interpret the Act in a way that is consistent with the former, and avoids the latter."

Two Virginia Democrats....PLUS....Brand New GOP Clown Report

I had written a draft yesterday tearing into what potential Democratic candidate, Jim Webb, had to say about the Confederate flag. But I found out that Digby had already written the post I was writing. Read it here. Webb is, at best, a pretend Democrat.

Speaking of Democrats from Virginia, here was alleged Democrat, Governor Terry McCauliffe, explaining to Andrea Mitchell yesterday that license plate Confederate flag symbols are "hurtful", but statues of traitors who led the South in their acts of terror against the USA....leave those alone...

“But not statues. I mean, Robert E. Lee, Jefferson Davis, these are all parts of our heritage," he added. "And the people that were in that battle, the Civil War, many of them were in it obviously for their own reasons that they had for that. But leave the statues and those things alone.”

"leave statues and those things alone" "Things" like town names, U.S. military fort names, street names, state building names....you know, all the thousands of examples of honoring treason and traitors that still remain throughout the various states today.

Free Will?...Plus Kenny Wayne Shepherd Concert Review

Many conservatives are today mocking the idea that the Confederate flag had anything to do with the gun-butchering murder of 9 blacks in South Carolina by the, apparently, racist, white youth, Dylann Roof. To a certain extent, those conservatives have a point.

Immediately following the news of the gun-butchering in an historic black South Carolina church last Wednesday, I read a snippet about Dylann Roof and a white girl he liked......

Scott Roof, who identified himself as Dylann Roof’s cousin, told me over the telephone that “Dylann was normal until he started listening to that white power music stuff.” He also claimed that “he kind of went over the edge when a girl he liked starting dating a black guy two years back.”

"Dylann liked her,” Scott Roof said. “The black guy got her. He changed. I don’t know if we would be here if not …” Roof then abruptly hung up the phone.

The Fantasists At The NY Times

Like writer Robert Parry, I read the NY Times editorial board's take yesterday with amazement.

The opening paragraph of the Times editorial....

President Vladimir Putin of Russia is not veering from the mythology he created to explain away the crisis over Ukraine. It is one that wholly blames the West for provoking a new Cold War and insists that international sanctions have not grievously wounded his country’s flagging economy.

It only gets worse from there.
